About the Workshop This program explores the great compositional changes that took occurred in concerted vocal music during the 17th and early 18th centuries. The day will be divided into two sessions of two and a half hours each. The first session (10am-12:30pm) is comprised of works by Italian composer Giovanni Gabrieli and Dutch composer Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck; the second session (1:30-4pm) of works by composers such as George Frideric Handel, J. S. Bach, and Henry Purcell. Information about compositional approaches and style will be woven into the rehearsal format, with a primary focus on playing and singing. All pieces will include parts for voices and instruments. Come have fun working with a specialist and sackbut player of this beautiful repertoire. Bring instruments (pitch: A=440), music stand, and bag lunch. Music is included in workshop fee; PDFs will be available online after January 15. Snacks and beverages will be provided for breaks.
