Ringing out 2013 and Bringing on 2014!

First, please allow us to thank you for the referrals of your clients to Pack of Paws Training LLC! We pride ourselves in excellent client services, top notch trainers, awesome classes and a family atmosphere and we know that you are selective about where you refer! We understand that our services are a reflection of you when you refer to us. Only some of our accomplishments in 2013:

We expanded! January 1, 2014 marks one year that Pack of Paws LLC expanded to a 5,000 sqft training center. We doubled our size, doubled our equipment, installed soft matted rubber floors and doubled our services!

We added a link on our website just for veterinarians! We’ll be loading class flyers and other valuable information for you and for your clients! You can find the link from the HOME page, left hand side under RESOURCES.

We send monthly rosters to veterinarians! We know you encourage your clients to participate in training with their dog. We send monthly lists of your clients who have participated in a Pack of Paws Dog Training program. Attached is a year-end list, for 2013.

We changed our Family Dog Classes to an open enrollment format! This means no waiting. They can start class right away! What this means for you, the vet, is your client can start class while it’s fresh on their mind instead of waiting 2 or 3 weeks for a class to start! Clients who enroll first enjoy a private Getting Started lesson #1. Generally there are only 1 or 2 families in the Getting Started session at which time the trainer can do a great job of getting to know the family and their dog, their goals and get training started. Clients who register when the series is at session #3, enjoy their Getting Started class first and then participate in the series in this order: #3, #4, #5, #6, #2 (remember, #1 is the Getting Started lesson). Lessons are designed to better emulate how people actually train at home. We collaborated with master curriculum writers and are excited about our new format. Each lesson is self-contained. This means that lesson #2 does not prepare for lesson #3, rather it is its own lesson which would include introduction of a behavior, training the behavior and introducing slight distraction. This means no one is behind in class. We also added many real life training challenges such as setting up a simulated kitchen and teaching the dog to not beg, or sitting watching TV with a bowl of cheese and having the dog relax. Clients are encouraged to repeat the Family Dog classes, learn to work at their dog’s skill level both in class and out in the world, and continue to improve on those skills. Our class is designed to teach the client to work at the dog’s skill level and to improve incrementally at the dog’s pace. We get great feedback! This format also means that newly enrolled folks can see the benefits from the folks who have been in class. This is a far more powerful example than a trainer’s dog. Most people, though impressed with a trainer’s dog, will say “yeah, well she’s a trainer”. But when they see folks just like them, with calm well mannered , that is a loud and clear

visual and a clear example that anyone can have the well mannered dog of their dreams.

We have more space for Growly Dog classes, Scaredy Dog classes and for severely dysfunctional behaviors. Even though we increased our space, we have not increased the number of dogs in these classes. We offer them more space!

We added written case studies for the more severe behavior cases. These case studies can be shared with you!

We added seminars! Seminars for veterinarians and staff, pet owners and trainers. We are bringing in top scientists from all over the world! 2013 we hosted Dr. Alice Moon Fanelli and Dr. Ian Dunbar! In 2014 we have scheduled Grisha Stewart, Ken McCort, Richard Edge, Michele Pouliot and we have more seminar speakers in mind!

We added off-site training resource! We have well qualified staff to train classes at YOUR facility! Have you thought about offering classes at your practice? You can by using our qualified and certified trainers. Have you considered offering behavior consults at your practice? You can, just contact Donna Savoie at [email protected] for details. Or give a call! We handle everything including the registrations.

We continue our own education and strive for new accomplishments!

Donna Savoie recently completed a rigorous application process with the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants and was certified as a behavior consultant through them. Only 45% of applicants are accepted. This was a great honor for Donna and a huge achievement. Not many trainers attempt the IAABC process for certification. Behavior consulting and training can be succinct but not every trainer pursues education for severely dysfunctional behaviors and not every behavior consultant is a trainer. Donna is certified in both. This saves your client money. Often a behavior consultant needs to refer to a trainer, and vice versa leaving the client in a position to either choose the service or pay for both.

Meridith Hallisey completed the Karen Pryor Academy and received their certification. Meridith also attended several courses on working with families with children and dogs. Her kids & dogs survival course is second to none.

Lisa Ruthig completed the Pack of Paws Dog Training trainer curriculum level 1 and is working on her level 2 which is focused on fearful and growly dogs.

Kim Foley is a new trainer currently enrolled in Catch Canine Academy. Donna Savoie is her approved mentor for Catch Canine Academy and together Pack of Paws Dog Training will be offering residence training and board & train right in Spencer later in 2014.

These are just some of the accomplishments of our Pack of Paws Dog Training team!

We added Canine Fitness & Massage with Lisa Ruthig. Certified Small Animal Massage Therapist, Certified Equine Massage Therapist, Reiki Level II Practitioner, Director of Animal Programs at Bancroft School of Massage Therapy, Anatomy and massage instructor.

Member of the Board of the National Board of Certification for Animal Acupressure and Massage. Lisa has a

BS in Biology. Lisa’s Lively Paws course uses a mix of fitness equipment, tricks training, and massage to

give dogs a thorough workout and to give owners tools to use at home to keep their dogs in peak shape, including:

Fit Paws balance balls, peanuts, discs, and donuts to strengthen the back, abs, and major muscles of the legs. Proprioception training using cavaletti. Using tricks such as back up, side passes, and circles to use different muscles. Confidence building equipment like tunnels and low A-frames. Massage to warm up and cool down to avoid injury.

What sort of patients would benefit from fitness training? Elderly dogs losing muscle tone. Dogs recovering from orthopedic surgery that are ready for Activity. Athletic dogs prone to injury or that want to avoid injury. Large breed puppies that need to build muscle with low impact. Dogs with poor proprioception. Dogs with weak backs or cores. Hyper dogs that need a tiring workout. Shy dogs that need a confidence boost.

We added and Control Unleashed with Diane King. Diane has been training dogs since 1991. She is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer – Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA) and a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers.

Diane has put multiple titles on her Beagles in Obedience, , Agility, Rally-O as well as one dog that went on to become a working therapy dog (TDI).

Presently, she shares her home with three rescue Beagles (one who was adopted from a research lab).

We added Active Dog Classes & Flyball with Kristine Rich and Deborah Taylor. Deb loves to work with those dogs who are adrenaline junkies and her training curriculums are very successful! Deb has always enjoyed dogs and training, but it wasn't until her flyball team back in Seattle needed a new trainer, that she started training more seriously about 5 years ago. She was faced with the challenge of helping dogs run better and faster, while dealing with various individual dog issues. She attends many seminars and advanced training classes and became passionate about working with high energy dogs that need an outlet. She specializes in building motivation, recalls, safe tugging, impulse control and of course flyball! Along with flyball teammate Kristine, she teaches Recall like a Flyball Dog, Active Dog: Focus and Motivation and Flyball from beginner to competition level. Deb’s favorite thing about teaching is watching people build a relationship with their dog through dog sports. Deb loves the satisfaction that busy dogs get when they finally have a "job". She loves flyball in particular because it's fast -paced, exciting and many dogs love everything about it! Deb currently has 4 dogs: Indigo (6) and Goose (6) are border ; Pax (3) and Spy (1) are her . In addition to flyball she also competes in racing and .

We added Nosework with Laurie Merritt! Laurie has been training dogs for 37 years. She has put multiple titles on her Siberian Huskies and continues to compete with her Darwin today! This is what Laurie says about Nosework: NoseWork Classes are fascinating for both dog and handler and are based on authentic NoseWork training. NoseWork can help develop confidence even in the most timid dog. The mental exercise of searching and problem-solving is great for calming and focusing the energetic or highly aroused dog, or dog reactive dog. A positive working relationship will develop between you and your dog when you are out "hunting" together as a team. For those handlers that love to compete, NoseWork Classes

will prepare you for the official NoseWork Trials.

Dogs have an amazing sense of smell and a natural desire to hunt. This class focuses on teaching you how to encourage and develop your dog’s natural abilities by using their desire to hunt and their love of toys, food and exercise. In this class, you will learn to read your dog’s body language, name the various parts of that language, and have the timing to reward on target. It’s a great class for your dog to have fun, build confidence and burn lots of mental and physical energy. Find out just how good your dog’s nose really is!

The really interesting discovery in this class is the task of facilitating our dogs' ability to use a sense that we don't have and seeing that ability evolve into a new functional skill. Discovering and learning about this amazing ability that our dogs have is why I'm involved in the sport!

We added Service Dog training and Therapy Dog Training with Lauren Cannon. Lauren is an Animal Behavior College graduate with honors and a Registered Service Dog Trainer: Certified through Ecad and registered with SDR and USSD.

We forged an amazing relationship with Alice Moon Fanelli, PhD CAAB. Dr. Moon is our behaviorist of choice when we need help with a difficult case, or sometimes a difficult client who needs to hear more scientific reasons for their dog’s behavior. Dr. Moon is a resource that we are fortunate to have.

We developed many discount programs. Thank You discounts, Refer a Friend discounts, and if YOU would like to offer a discount to your clients, we included a few Refer a Friend cards here.

We had a ton more exciting events in 2013, and are looking forward to working together with you in 2014!

As always, we are here for you and your clients!

Sincerely, PACK OF PAWS DOG TRAINING LLC
