Film festivals are a great source of good films for Cchildren, but the reality is that film festivals happen in very few cities and few children get an access to the wonderful films featured in film festivals. We at LXL Ideas asked ourselves a question – If children do not go to film festivals, can we take the festival to the children? Our answer to this question was the birth of the International Kids Film Festival - IKFF. IKFF gives schools all over the world an opportunity to host a film festival in their premises. We have partnered with 7 of the best International Childrens Film Festivals from across the globe who have helped us curate almost 100 amazing films from 30 countries in 20 languages. IKFF is a great opportunity for children across the world to learn from the magic of cinema. This year IKFF also features Learn Cinema, an online film making class, exclusively designed for students to learn the art of film making. Students can also participate in the film making competition as part of IKFF this year and win exciting prizes of $10,000 and a chance to travel international film festivals. As far as we are concerned, IKFF is the future of learning, and for all of us at LXL Ideas, our dream is to take IKFF to children across the globe in the coming years! 4 Message from Festival programmer Neha Jain Head, LXL Films, LXL Ideas elcome to the second edition of the International Kids Film Festival! It’s been a hectic seven months of marathon film viewing sessions, debates and discussions and, finally, I’d Wlike to present to you the IKFF 2018 Catalogue: a diverse collection of 93 compelling films from 31 countries, selected with a lot of passion and conviction, only for you. Our main objective during the selection process has been to choose films that make you think and make you question the status quo. But I also know that these films will make you feel emotions you might not have experienced before. Some ideas might be unfamiliar to you, some stories might question your beliefs, all we ask of you is to look at each of these with an open mind. You may be surprised by what you learn - the places that you see, and the people that you meet. Besides my fantastic Films Programming team, I would also like to thank our Partners who helped us find these gems in children’s cinema - Children's Film Festival Seattle, Providence Children's Film Festival (USA), Giffoni International Film Festival (Italy), Boston International Kids Film Festival, Lucas International Festival for Young Film Lovers (Germany) and Rolan International Film Festival for Children and Youth (Armenia). The embassies of France and Australia were instrumental in getting us films from their countries. The best of the films at IKFF 2018 stand to win many awards. These will be chosen by our eight- member Jury comprising of eminent personalities from the film and animation industries in India, France and the United States. We also have a 20-member Children's Jury selected from schools across the world. We hope you enjoy watching these films. The romance between Bollywood and Digital Media A study on the implementation of digital promotional activities in Bollywood Student Name: Dinesh Koendjbiharie Student Number: 357429 Supervisor: Payal Arora PhD MA Media Studies – Media and Business Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication Erasmus University Rotterdam MA Thesis July 2015 0 Version 2.0. - July 2015 The romance between Bollywood and Digital Media A study on the implementation of digital promotional activities in Bollywood ABSTRACT The Indian cinema, often referred to as Bollywood, is when it comes to production scale the largest movie industry in the world. The media and creative industries have been facing a new challenge in the past decade such as, but not limited to, the implementation of new digital media technologies in their digital promotional strategies. This research looks into the promotional activities in contemporary Bollywood that are visible to the consumer. The research question: “How does Bollywood use social media for promotional activities to reach the domestic and global market and possibly strengthen their current promotional strategies?” will be answered through two in-depth case studies on Bollywood blockbuster movie ‘Happy New Year’ and a movie that did exceptionally well ‘Queen’. This research firstly touches upon the changes and the development the industry went through, followed by creating an understanding of the industry’s contemporary position. The first step of the analysis is based on creating an in-depth understanding of the cases and the corresponding data from among others Facebook and Twitter. The following step of the analysis is solely focussed on the adjoining film music industry, in which the attention is paid to the promotion of the film music and also the promotion through the official social media channels of the cases.

www.Asia Times.US NRI Global Edition Email: [email protected] September 2016 Vol 7, Issue 9 Zakir Naik: What did I do to earn the tags of ‘Dr Terror’, ‘Hate Monger’? Islamic scholar Dr. Zakir Naik wrote an open letter to Indians called ‘Five Questions and an Appeal’ where he lamented about being targeted and labeled a ‘terror preacher’ in India. In the letter, Naik said, “Of 150 countries where I’m respected and my talks are welcomed, I’m being called a terrorist influencer in my own country. What an irony. Why now, when I’ve been doing the same thing for over 25 years?”. Naik, 51, is an Islamic preacher, who founded the Islamic Research Foundation in 1991 when he started Dawah or religious preaching. His lectures mostly revolve around how Islam is superior to all other faiths. While he claims to be an advocate of interfaith dialogue, his preaching’s’ reinforce all the stereotypes which exist against Muslims. Following reports that one of the militants of Dhaka terror attack was inspired by Naik’s misinterpretations of Islam, there are growing demand for strict action against him. In the letter, Naik asks why he has become the enemy number one for the State and Central government. “It has been over two months since the ghastly terror attack in Dhaka, and over one month since I’ve been asking myself what exactly have I done to become the enemy number one of the media as well as the State and Central Gov- ernment,” wrote Naik. × and justice. He also questioned the repeated investigations on him by government agencies.

SHORT FILM COMPILATIONS ECFA survey on short film compilations in European theatres LABAN THE LITTLE GHOST, SPOT & SPLODGE, TOOTLETUBS & JYRO, LITTLE ANNA & THE TALL UNCLE... Short film compilations have been touring in European cinemas and festivals, serving the needs of the very youngest pre-school audience. Ivan Lo Guidice, for ECFA, coordinated a small survey on the pro’s and con’s of presenting such compilations to this unique audience. Thanks to the cooperation of the ECFA members - film institutes, distributors, festivals and cultural organizations - we gained a better understanding of the situation in various European countries. Little Anna & the tall uncle Thanks to their main characteristics such as length and storyline, shorts seem to be a product that suits toddlers, their expectations and needs. Even if shorts are commercially less appealing than features, most of the big inter- national film festivals include in their program a special section of short films. Our goal is to understand more about the potential of series of short films, compiled together for the youngest audience and their likelihood to be distributed in multiplexes and theatres. Basic question First we needed an answer to the basic question: have you already organised screenings of short film compilati- ons for children in cinemas? We are talking about a minimum of three shorts and total length of the program between 40 and 75 minutes. In case of film festivals we were interested in the screenings organised beyond those included in the festival program. Approximately 62% of the interviewees organise screenings of short film com- pilations while 38% do not.
