FACT SHEET The Alberta Junior Championship Highwood High River, AB July 2-5, 2019

ABOUT THE CHAMPIONSHIP The Alberta Junior Championship is the provinces premier junior golf event with a rich history of young Albertans who started their competitive golf journey here. The Junior Boys inaugural event was first held in 1934 and the Junior Ladies dates back to 1932. The event brings together the best under 19 aged players in the province (as of August 1st). Chandler McDowell and Annabelle Ackroyd won the respective Junior titles last year in Sundre, Alberta. A Juvenile title is awarded to the top player under 17 years of age.

• The event will bring together 120 boys and 36 girls. • BOYS: o The event is 72 holes of stroke-play competition with a 36-hole cut to the low 60 players and ties for the final two rounds. Please note that there is NO AGE PROTECTION. o The top 15 boys will be awarded a quota spot. The interprovincial team (Team Alberta) will consist of the top three (3) players. The top 6 players in Future , driven by Acura championships will result in exemptions into the Canadian Junior Championship (via Golf Canada’s quota spots) and may be earned by Albertans. Players are awarded a spot based on prior and championship results as indicated below: o Top 3 Albertans on the Golf Canada Junior Boys Order of Merit as of June 20, 2019 o Remaining quota spots will be based on Alberta Junior Championship results • GIRLS: o The event is 72 holes of stroke-play competition with a progressive cut to the low 20 players and ties for the third round and the low 10 players and ties for the final round. Please note that there is NO AGE PROTECTION. o The low four (4) finishers at the Alberta Junior Girls provincial championship will receive a quota spot into the Canadian Junior Girls Championship. The interprovincial team (Team Alberta) will consist of the top three (3) players.

ENTRY FORM and ELIGIBILITY The entry deadline for the championship is June 23, 2019. The competition is open to male amateur golfers under the age of 19 as of August 1st with a Factor of 20.0 or less, who are members in good standing of their provincial and/or state golf associations. The entry deadline for the girl’s championship is June 23, 2019. The competition is open to female amateur golfers under the age of 19 as of August 1st with a Handicap Factor of 30.0 or less, who are members in good standing of their provincial and/or state golf associations.

Please note that registration is on a first come, first served basis.

The entry fee for the championship is $275.

REGISTRATION All competitors must register with Alberta Golf prior to the start of the championship. Players that do not register will be subject to DISQUALIFICATION. Registration will be available at the Tournament Office on Monday, July 1st from 6:00-8:00 pm and again on July 2nd beginning at 6:30 am. Important tournament information including local rules and competitor policies will be distributed at registration.

Practice rounds may be available in the weeks preceding the championship at the discretion of the host club.

CADDIES are not permitted.

STARTING TIMES Starting times for the first two rounds will be available online by Friday, June 28th by 4:00 pm. They will also be made available at registration. Third and final round starting times will be available in the evening after completion of play for the day.

ACCOMMODATIONS There are no accommodations on site. Host venue located within town of High River. RV booking and campgrounds are available. Please contact host venue.

CLUBHOUSE FACILITIES and FOOD & BEVERAGE The clubhouse will be open daily at 6:00 am. There will be a breakfast service available at the players own expense throughout the championship. A complimentary player buffet will be available following play after the first round and second rounds.

PRACTICE FACILITIES Practice facilities will be available to all tournament players for the duration of the championship. Balls are complimentary, courtesy of the host club and Alberta Golf.

COURSE SET-UP The competition will be from a maximum distance of 6,800 yards for the boys and 6,000 yards for the girls.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

DAY 1 – Tuesday, July 2nd Tournament Registration 6:30 AM Start Round 1 - Double Crossover 7:00 AM to approximately 9:00 AM & Noon to approximately 2:00 PM (9-minute intervals in threesomes off of #1 & #10) Player Meal Noon to 8:00 PM Social Function 7:30 to 8:30 PM (BBQ, , Long , KP, Education)

DAY 2 – Wednesday, July 3rd Round 2 - Double Crossover 7:00 AM to approximately 9:00 AM & Noon to approximately 2:00 PM (9-minute intervals in threesomes off of #1 & #10) Player Meal Noon to 8:00 PM

Cut to the low 60 players and ties for boy; cut to the low 20 players a ties for girls

DAY 3 – Thursday, July 4th Round 3 – Single Crossover 7:30 AM to approximately 9:30 AM (10-minute intervals in threesomes off of #1 & #10)

Cut to the low 10 players a ties for girls

DAY 4 – Friday, July 5th Final Round - Single Crossover 7:30 AM to approximately 9:30 AM (10-minute intervals in threesomes off of #1 & #10)

Prize Ceremony 30 minutes after final group finishes Competition is closed

TIE BREAKING PROCEDURES Ties for the championships and interprovincial teams will be broken by a sudden death . The sequence of holes will be posted at the Tournament Office.

CHAMPION & INTER-PROVINCIAL TEAM PHOTOGRAPHS Official photos of the tournament champions and inter-provincial team members will be taken after the conclusion of the final round and prize ceremony.
