World Book Day 1st March STAFF & STUDENTS!

Dress Up as Your Favourite Book Character – dig deep in your wardrobes and get creative, come in dressed as your favourite (or any!) literary character. Prizes for the best costume! Stuck? Mr. Men characters and Dr. Seuss are always easy to pull together! However, Open Evening is that

night, so bring some normal clothes for the evening.

Take a “shelfie” – send Anika Khan your pictures of you in front of your bookshelf full of books! These will be collated into a massive collage for display.

“Location, Location, Location” – get your favourite book and set out somewhere to take a picture of you reading your book (think “Extreme Ironing” with books, but not that crazy). Some possible locations you may want to consider: your garden, a café, on a bridge, in a park, on a beach, roof top, cycling, etc. Get creative, send these pictures to Anika please!

Tweet your pictures to @UTCMediaCityUK #UTCbookday Best photo wins a prize!

eSports event

Young people from across Manchester turned up to play video games in the UTC Media City’s fully furnished eSports battle arena.

This tournament was held on Thursday 15th February attracting young people of all levels to take part in the XIII eSports youth tournament. Boys and girls entered their gaming name to help build their profile and climb the rankings. If they were good enough they went to the top of the leader board.

Andre Samuels said “This was a once in the lifetime experience for me, the event was so much fun and it’s the first time a tournament like this has been held in a school by students for students”.

The competition was presented through a live broadcast showcasing the player’s talents on large screens across our college and onto social media platforms.

The UTC student volunteers organised the event taking on roles such as presenting, filming, sound, lighting and technical support.

Skye Banks a female gamer from year 11 said “games aren’t just for boys, I’m here to win!”
