Research Area My Ph.D. research is involved in the better understanding of hadrons’ structure, the building-blocks of matter. Hadrons’ constituents are the fundamental particles, called the quarks and gluons but how their interactions give rise to the observed properties of hadrons is poorly understood so far. Prof. Garth Huber has been involved in the research at Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator facility (Jefferson Lab), Newport News, Virginia, USA over the last 25 years. Jefferson Lab has recently been upgraded to the 12 GeV electrons beam energy andad- vanced spectrometers. Jefferson Lab has four experimental Halls, called Hall-A, Hall-B, Hall-C and Hall-D. Our research is involved in Hall-C which is designed for the study of high precision (study of rare interactions) exper- iments. My Ph.D. thesis’ experiment (KaonLT, E12-09-011), 푝(푒, 푒′퐾+)Λ/ Σ0 at Jefferson Lab was designed to study the LT separated cross-section and to attempt to extract the electromagnetic form factor of 퐾+ meson. Measurements of the 퐾+ electromagnetic form factor are important, as they allow us to better understand the role of the strange quark (푠) in the 퐾+ structure. This experiment ran over fall 2018 and spring 2019 in Hall-C at Jefferson Lab. Currently I am analysing the experimental data for a particular valueof 푄2 = 0.5 퐺푒푉 /푐 which will be the work of my Ph.D. thesis. In addition to working on this current experiment at Jefferson Lab I will also be assisting in the development of new detector systems for future experiments. Dr Huber has received funds from the Governments of Canada (CFI) and (Fedoruk Institute) to make a prototype Cherenkov detector for the Solenoidal Large Intensity Device (SoLID) at Jefferson Lab, in conjunction with our colleagues at (Durham, NC). This prototyping process involves the design and testing of detector components in the University of Regina Science Machine Shop, and simulation studies to accurately predict data quality of the planned experiments. Recently the Department of Energy has approved an Electron Ion Collider (EIC) to be built at Brookhaven National Laboratory. Dr. Huber’s group is also involved in EIC.
