They went 3-0 to advance to the semifinals this Saturday, February 11 at 12:45 pm in Patriot Gym. If they win they will play in the finals at 5:45 pm on Saturday, also in Patriot Gym.

The Seventh & Eighth Grade Girls’ teams and the Seventh Grade Boys’ Team wrapped up their respective seasons playing some of their most competitive basketball at the end of the season. Congratulations to all of these teams and their coaches on good seasons and great improvement. The future is bright at All Saints for both girls and boys basketball.

High School Basketball The High School girls team is currently in second place in TAPPS District 1-2A at 3-1. Last week they had good wins over Lubbock Southcrest and Lubbock Christ the King. The team can then wrap up a playoff spot with a win over Southcrest Friday February, 10 at 6:00 pm at Frenship Middle School located at 500 Loop 193 in Wolfforth. This is a big week for our girls!

The High School boys team continued their district roll with wins over Southcrest and Christ the King to stay undefeated at 4-0 in district. Last night’s win over PCA clinched the third consecutive district cham- pionship for the Patriots. The boys will conclude their district schedule Friday at 7:30 against Southcrest at Frenship Middle School directly following the girls game. The playoffs are around the corner for both All Saints teams, and it should be an exciting time.

Last night, the school honored our senior basketball players and cheerleaders. These seven Patriots have represent the school with honor and dedication. It has been a joy to watch each one grow and lead with grace and a humble heart.

All Saints qualified for the regional championship by defeating Frenship and Monterey earlier in the week.

Five area high schools competed in the Regional Mock Trial Contest. Coronado, Frenship, Lubbock High, Monterey and All Saints competed in a “round robin” format tournament throughout the week. All schools compete at the same level regardless of the schools’ enrollments.

Each school is responsible for litigating the same simulated criminal murder trial by presenting either the prosecuting or defending side of the case by acting as attorneys or witnesses. Teams must prepare three attorneys and three witnesses for each side of the case since it is determined just immediately prior to that day’s contest which school will prosecute and which school will defend in the trial.

Local practicing attorneys or judges served as contest judges for each of the simulated trials. Each judge issued a ballot to determine which school won each trial as well as to award “Best Advocates” and “Best Witnesses” for each trial. A total ballots system determined which two schools would compete for the Regional Championship the last night. All Saints and Lubbock High were tied going into the finals with four ballots each.

All Saints defeated Lubbock High with a 2-1 ballot ratio for their defendant portrayal. All Saints sophomore Susannah Bumstead (10) received two ballots as Best Witness.

All Saints defeated Frenship with a 2-1 ballot ratio on the first night of the contest. Sajan Dihenia (11) received two ballots as Best Advocate, Natalie Chaudhuri (11) received one ballot for Best Advocate and Alexandra Shropshire (11) received one ballot for Best Witness.

The second night of the competition All Saints defeated Monterey with a 2-1 ballot ratio. All Saints sophomore Susannah Bumstead (10) received two ballots as Best Witness while senior Lena Tello (12) received one ballot as Best Advocate.

All Saints Mock Trial team includes: senior Lena Tello; juniors Anna Arnett, Natalie Chaudhuri, Sajan Dihenia, Sarah Going, Hannah Hays, Ava Moran, Raymond Rider, and Alexandria Shropshire; and sophomore Susannah Bumstead.

Teacher Billy Don Hampton is the team’s coach. Judge Mark Hocker and attorney Charles Chambers advise the team. Debbie Rowan worked with the team for two months last fall while Mr. Hampton was out on personal leave.

Congratulations, Patriots!

6 HIGH SCHOOL OCEAN BOWL RESULTS The All Saints High School Ocean Bowl team placed third Saturday in the Texas A&M Galveston Campus Sea Grant Dolphin Challenge North Texas Regional competition of the National Ocean Science Bowl competitions. The Dolphin Challenge Ocean Bowl is a nationally recognized and acclaimed high school academic science and technology competition intended to increase knowledge of the ocean among high school students and, ultimately, magnify the public understanding of ocean research. It uses a quiz- bowl format, with lockout buzzers and extended team challenge questions to test students on their knowledge of oceanography. This includes the subjects of biology, chemistry, geology, geography, social science, technology, and physics. Pictured front row, left to right: Mallory Staggs, and Abi Jordan. Back row, Ty- ler Phy, Cole Beasley, Sajan Dihenia, John-Gamble Streit, and Conrad Small. Each year approximately 2,000 students from 300 schools across the nation compete for prizes and a trip to the national competition.
