Traffic systems Mobile future – designing and building what connects people

Due to increasing globalization, the fast pace of societies and growing traffic volumes, traffic infrastructure quality represents a decisive criterion of social and economic development. On the one hand, mobility requirements of peo- ple and goods traffic flows grow. On the other hand, expansion possibilities for traffic infrastructure are limited, traffic increasingly suffers from congestions, pollution, climate gas emissions and noise, and environmental awareness has increased. The careful handling of the limited resource of space as well as the compatible integration of traffic infrastructure in existing conurbations and cultural landscapes become more and more important. Existing traffic areas must be utilized more intensely by intelligent traffic management. Roads do not represent an independent traffic system, but are closely linked to rail-borne, waterborne or airborne traffic systems. Integrated approaches as well as sound expert knowledge are the basis for envi- ronmentally compatible, economical and sustainable solutions. The perfect coordination of all expert fields and work sections is decisive in order to finally implement a functional traffic system.
