Our programs and services help fuel the creative potential in our Secretary community, but it is only through the collective efforts and contributions of our Sharonlee Vogel friends and members that we can realize the full potential of the arts! Community Liaison & Visual Artist Last year, with your support, we: Treasurer Sharonlee Vogel, Board President David Kay (July 2018–April 2019) • Awarded 65 grants to local and regional arts organizations and county SunTrust Bank PTAs totaling nearly $600,000 and serving nearly 300,000 community Adam Stull (from May 2019) members. Howard Bank • Secured and awarded nearly $100,000 to individual artists in the form of Directors scholarships, grants, honoraria, and awards; including 34 grants to art- Ellen Flynn Giles ists effected by the 2018 flood through our Re-Create: Ellicott City Artist EFG Enterprises Relief Fund. Jordana Guzman Davis, Agnor, Rapaport & Skalny, LLC • Recognized exemplary contributions to the arts through Howie Awards Mary Kay Kenney to visual artist Brenda Kidera (Outstanding Artist); Centennial High University of Integrative Health School Director of Bands David Matchim (Outstanding Arts Educator); Greg Lowe HorseSpirit Arts Gallery and founder Robin Holliday (Outstanding Lowe Wealth Advisors Business Supporter of the Arts); writer and photographer Fern Eisner Coleen West, Executive Director Linda Rochelle (Legacy in the Arts); and Theresa Colvin, Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation ADG Creative (Coleen West Leadership in the Arts). Janet Schreibstein Community Liaison • Worked with the County to develop the Circuit Courthouse Call for Public Artists, Tracey Pullo Schutty administered the application process, and served on the Art Advisory Panel that Community Liaison & Musician reviewed 96 applications and recommended 6 finalists for the new courthouse Dami Soh Schlobohm public art installations. Community Liaison & Musician • Collaborated with The Howard Hughes Corporation on the second annual George Wilson Merriweather District Artists-in-Residence Program, served on the Advisory Panel HCPSS Fine Arts Advisory Council that reviewed 175 applications from national and international artists, and moder- Legal Counsel ated the Pushing Identity Boundaries Through Art panel discussion with MD AIR Jeff Agnor Davis, Agnor, Rapaport & Skalny, LLC artists Ram Devineni, Katherine Tzu-Lan Mann, and Sarah Stefana Smith. • Hired a consultant and convened dozens of key stakeholders to develop strategies

Schoolhouse Theater Arts • Organized a four-day plein air event in historic Ellicott City featuring Thunderous Productions over 50 artists and hundreds of spectators. • Placed 12 new temporary outdoor sculptures at community sites countywide. • Provided affordable rehearsal, performance, and studio space for 50 The Year in artists and arts groups. • Presented Fabulous 50+ Players musical theatre outreach programs at senior and community centers countywide. Headlines • Provided hands-on experiences in the arts to 170 children attending the Ellicott City and Old Cedar Lane Head Start Centers through our highly acclaimed Head StART in ART artist-in-education program. These efforts resulted in more opportunities for artists and more opportunities for the public to engage in the arts. It is also important to note that we ended the year in the black—thanks to our many supporters. In FY19, we received $865,000 from Howard County Government through our Community Service Partnership, a 4% increase. Our deepest gratitude goes to County Executive Allan Kittleman and County Council members Calvin Ball, Greg Fox, Mary Kay Sigaty, Jen Terrasa, and Jon Weinstein for believing in our mission and for recognizing that public funding for the arts is an investment in our community and in our quality of life. Our other fundraising efforts were strong. We received $144,500 from the Maryland State Arts Council—another record high—thanks to Governor Hogan and our county delegation in Annapolis. Over 500 art- ists and guests attended the Celebration of the Arts gala, featuring the Ellicott City endures in ‘Paint It!’ exhibit popular Rising Star competition, which raised $110,800 to support the Howard County Times, July 2018 arts.
