WW1

Pte Arthur Bertram Workman was born in Minchinhampton in 1887. He was in the 1st Bn Regt and died of his wounds on 4th December 1914 in England at the age of 27.

Pte Charles Richard Newman was born in Minchinhampton in 1899. He was in the 10th Btn. Gloucestershire Regiment and died on 18th February 1915 in England at the age of 16.

Pte Herbert Stafford Cox was born in Minchinhampton in 1888. He enlisted in 1906 into the Grenadier Guards and was discharged on 16th August 1918 no longer physically fit for war service and died on 29th August 1918 in Warminster at the age of 30.

Gnr Ivor Claudius Smith was born in Nailsworth in 1887. He was in the 186th Bde Royal Field Artillery and died on 13th September 1920 in Minchinhampton at the age of 23.

WW2

Sergeant Thomas Desmond Vernon Pilot of the Volunteer Reserve was born in Bengal in 1922. He was in 55 O.T.U. Aston Down, and was killed at the age of 19 on 28th December 1940 when his plane, a Hurricane, nose-dived into a farm at Saul.

Sergeant Peter Brain Tyres Quint Pilot of the Royal Australian Air Force was born in Steyning in 1917. He was a member of 50 O.T.U. Aston Down, and was killed at the age of 24 on 6th October 1941 when his plane, a Hurricane, was caught in the slipstream of others in the formation, and crashed at the New Grounds, Slimbridge.

Sergeant Roger Pierson Owen Pilot of the Royal Canadian Air Force was born in 1914. He was a member of 52 O.T.U. Aston Down, and was killed at the age of 27 on 7th December 1941 on take-off, crashing his Spitfire at France Lynch.

Sergeant Norman William Barbeau Pilot of the Royal Canadian Air Force from Montreal, Canada was born in 1921. He was a member of O.T.U. Aston Down, and was killed at the age of 20 on 18th December 1941 when taking off in his Spitfire when his port wing hit a petrol tanker, the wing became detached and the plane crashed on to the road at Stratton St. Margaret, Swindon.

C/Sgt Harry Frederick Hopper was born in in 1922. He was in the Royal Ulster Rifles and died on 10th June 1942 in Bury St Edmonds at the age of 20.

Flt Lt Frederick Warren Fisher was born in Gloucester in 1901. He was in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve and died on 13th May 1943 in Loughborough at the age of 42.

Pte Roland Cyril Percy Baxter was born in Hendon in 1918. He was in the Royal Army Medical Corps and died on 6th March 1944 in West Cheshire at the age of 25.

Pte Sidney Henry Preston was born in Stroud in 1914. He was in the Dorsetshire Regiment and died on 30th September 1944 in Gloucestershire at the age of 30.
