Any Hokioi? Worthy nominees Te Awamutu College has an extensive collection of the school magazine, Hokioi. These date back to the first NOMINEE — JULIE HANCOX NOMINEE — SHELLEY BLAIR one in 1945, however, some are not complete or are missing altogether. In particular, copies of the Hokioi from 1949, 1950, 1951 and 1958 are needed to complete the collection. If anyone has copies of these, that are no longer needed, the school would be grateful for them. Any donations of the school magazine can be dropped into the Te Awamutu College library. Young gun Twelve-year-old Graham Wade excelled in the quarter marathon run, finishing in 56 minutes for 92nd placing of 659 — not his older brother Jack (13) as reported in Tuesday’s Courier. Te Awamutu’s Federation 2 soccer side went down 2-0 to league leaders Katikati at the Stadium on Saturday. Coach Dave Ireland reports that his team took too long to get started, conceding two sloppy first half goals. Te Awamutu played the better soccer in the second half, dominating possession, but were unable to penetrate the Katikati defence. It was the last appearance for Argentine import Ezequiel Boretto who returns home next week after a season and a half turning out for the red and back Te Awamutu side. Player of the day was Cohen Pikari for stepping up and playing with lots of composure in the midfield position. Te Awamutu will now have to cope without regular goal keeper Kevin Buckle with what looks to be a season-ending leg injury. This week the team are away to Ngongotaha. The men’s reserve team advanced in the Waikato Plate competition defeating Melville’s E division side 4-0 at Anchor Park. It was a comprehensive win after Melville had made the better start. First half goals to player/coach Jim Grainger and Neil Hancock had the side 2-0 ahead at halftime. Evergreen Billy Carter added a third goal before goal keeper Josh Petersen came forward to convert a penalty with the last kick of the game. Player of the day was Neil Hancock for scoring a goal and playing in several different positions dur- ing the match. Next week the team are back in C division league action away to Melville. The women’s teams unbeaten run came to an end with a 3-0 loss away at Cambridge.
