Issue No 412 March 2013 Issue No. 417 August 2013 THE MEMORIAL HALL CHANGES

We are pleased to report that the Memorial is undergoing a substantial upgrade. The roof has been fully repaired, new storage area built, new windows fitted, the toilets are to be refurbished, new tables have been purchased and new chairs are ordered. This busy little Hall caters for many different organisations ranging from Martial Arts to the Bridge Club. It is also a meeting room for many other groups and clubs. It is used for social functions i.e. weddings, birthday parties and even funerals. The cost of the refurbishment has been met by the Hall which is financed by lettings and rental from Birches Freehouse. The Memorial Hall Trust Ltd now owns the Birches building providing a sustainable income for the future. The Directors of the Eldwick Memorial Hall Trust Ltd are very keen to hear from Hall users, as to their needs as the refurbishment continues. New booking system. – If you wish to use The Memorial Hall for a social function and to use the lounge bar of Birches, this may now be done as one booking. Four classrooms got transformed into WW2 classrooms. Computers were put away, school uniform was taken off and costumes were put on. It was truly amazing. On the Friday there was a museum that the children had set up. They made signs for their chosen table and decorated it specially. After that Y5 prepared it in their groups. It was fantastic! On the Monday, Y5 had a WW2 style lunch. ʻIt was deliciousʼ, said a thoughtful Holly aged 10. They had fish and chips wrapped in newspaper and jam sponge with custard for pudding. They also had tasters. ʻThe tripe was disgusting, the sugarless truffles were horrible but the spam was very niceʼ, explained a delighted and disgusted Emma aged 10. They had a fabulous time and Iʼd say this is a very great experience. Friends of Prince of Wales Park volunteers working every Wednesday and Saturday from 9am. We'd love you to join in!
