an update from The Sheagley’s

JUNE 2014 Dear Friends and Family, In my last newsletter I shared with you about how dad was at the end. As most of you know, the Lord took him home soon after that. I want to thank those of you who were able to come visit him. It was such a blessing to see his spirit shining forth the glory of God, even as his mind and body deteriorated. My sister had come to be with dad while Randy and I were teaching at the Leader’s Training in Cuba and the day we returned home he told us he was having trouble holding on, but that he knew his prayers for us during the trip were a vital part of his ministry with us. And with that he let go, declining rapidly and soon he was fi nally home with his precious Savior. I am both full of sadness and joy knowing Dad is restored and in his full glory, with both mom and the Lord, but of course I miss him so much. Tonight I lead the young adults BARN bible study and our passage is from John 11 where Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead. I am deeply touched by the way Jesus grieves with Mary and allows himself to feel the sting of death and separation. His grieving was not for the moment, obviously, as he knew he would be raising Lazarus from the dead, but rather for the larger picture, and I believe, not just for Mary but for all of those he loves that would experience this sting. The God of the Universe chooses to feel the pain I feel today because He wants relationship, a knowing with me. This truth brings me back to such a real, tangible understanding of his intimate love and I am so grateful. What an incredible God we have! Cuba Update God is redeeming the teenage population of Cuba! Those who have grown up to believe there is no God are fi nding Him and following Him with a passion, reaching out to their friends and family. Our weekly discipleship club membership has doubled in one year and the commitment these kids have is solid. They are serving in their churches and even have weekly homework in bible study and scripture memory. Last year at camp, out of 600 campers, over 500 went forward, publicly stating their willingness to become a pastor or missionary in Cuba or around the world. This year we anticipate over 1200 campers in nine regional camps throughout all of Cuba.

Our Challenges & Answered Prayers Cuba has been such a closed door for so many years and God has provided a window for me to see through and to communicate to you the magnificence of what He is doing there. HE (not me), WILL (not may or may not), BUILD HIS CHURCH (not my church). He invites all of us to be a part, using our gifts in different ways. My main responsibility is to communicate this to you and extend that invitation.

Maybe you feel you have no gift to contribute. I know what you mean and I feel it keenly as a write this letter. Due to a mild form of dyslexia, I have always struggled with reading and writing. Yet here I am. Why did He choose me to communicate? If you know the answer to that question then you know God intends to use you too and make you a part of this grand adventure, where ever that may be.

Randy and I have been praying for God to develop a team around us in this ministry to Cuba. With this in mind, we invited Andi Morris to come down with us in April, as God has been growing her heart for Cuba in significant ways. After returning, her very insightful comment summed up it up well. A veteran in short term missions, she said it was “the most intense spiritual conflict I have ever encoun- tered.” It is a full on war that left her completely exhausted and exhilarated at the same time.

That week Andi found herself struggling with the idea of going back and digging in deeper. She was sitting in the doctor’s waiting room across from a sociable woman who introduced her- self and began a friendly conversation. Andi told her she had just returned from Cuba and suddenly the woman began to tear up. Andi quickly apologized for unknowingly upset- ting her, only to find out that 2 days earlier, this woman’s husband, who was also a pastor, had shared with his congregation an unshaken Our Cuban brothers & sisters eager to grow and Andi Morris, loving the prompt on his heart to learn about what God chance to be a part of our team. was doing in the country of Cuba. They knew of no one or no ministry to Cuba and so in the service they prayed together for God to send them someone with news of His work in Cuba. Prayer Requests:
