PERSONAL BIO Dr. Sanford “Sandy” Shugart has served since 2000 as the fourth president of Valencia College in , . As winner of the first Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence, Valencia College is one of the most celebrated community colleges in America. Serving nearly 70,000 students per year, the College is known for high rates of graduation, transfer and job placement, and has become something of a national laboratory for best Sanford Shugart practices in learning-centered education.

COLLEGE PRESIDENT Prior to Valencia College, Sandy served as president of North Harris College and as vice president and chief academic officer of the North Carolina Community College System. He earned his Ph.D. in teaching and learning from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In addition to his career in education, Sandy is a published poet and songwriter and author of leadership in the Crucible of Work: Discovering the Interior Life of an Authentic Leader. JOB DESCRIPTION Provides senior leadership for the measurable expansion and improvement of learning at the College, including: promotion of learning as the chief value and design principle in the culture of the college; the design, implementation, and assessment of scholarly, diverse, and learning-centered curriculum; the development of systems that enhance student learning, persistence, and completion; an understanding of the College’s position in the region’s educational ecosystem, including development of relationships with K-12 and university partners, commitment to collaborative practices and shared governance. PERSONAL BIO Prior to joining Valencia College, Isis Artze-Vega served as the first assistant vice president for teaching and learning at Florida International University. Through cross-disciplinary and unit working teams, she provided leadership for university-wide teaching and learning initiatives, including a multi-year, comprehensive Gateway Project, funded with support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation through the Isis Artze-Vega Association of Public and Land-grant Universities; a Provost Hybrid VICE PRESIDENT, initiative; and the redesign of teaching evaluation. ACADEMIC AFFAIRS Isis serves as a fellow with the Gardner Institute for Excellence in Undergraduate Education, supporting gateway faculty development and analytics in teaching and learning projects, and serves on a Lumina Foundation National Advisory Council on quality credentials.

As an active member of the national educational development community, Isis currently serves on the board of the Professional and Organizational Development Network. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Duke University, a master’s degree in English and a doctorate degree in higher education leadership from the University of Miami. PERSONAL BIO Joe Battista joined Valencia College in January 2004 and currently serves as the vice president of the division of global, professional and continuing education. His responsibilities include leading the growth and expansion of international student recruiting and services, continuing education language Joe Battista programs, workforce training, professional development and VICE PRESIDENT, the School of Public Safety. With over 30 years of experience as a senior level executive in private and public organizations, Joe GLOBAL, PROFESSIONAL was an instrumental leader at Collegis, a start-up organization AND CONTINUING EDUCATION whose business was in higher education IT services and outsourcing. He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in business administration, both from St. Joseph ‘s University in Philadelphia, and is a certified professional accountant.

Joe is an avid Philadelphia sports fan, has volunteered as a youth basketball and soccer coach, and was president of a youth soccer club. He enjoys music and plays the guitar for fun. Joe is married for 35 years and has two children. JOB DESCRIPTION Serves as the chief business and financial officer of the College. Supports the learning mission of the College through effective leadership, analysis and planning of college finances, business operations, auxiliary enterprises, facilities and property, risk management, safety and security, and other duties as assigned. PERSONAL BIO Loren Bender joined Valencia College as the vice president of business operations and finance in June 2015. During his 32-year career, he has served in many financial roles Loren Bender in the banking, manufacturing and hospitality industries. VICE PRESIDENT, Most recently, he served as the vice president of finance for SeaWorld Orlando. BUSINESS OPERATIONS AND FINANCE Loren, a certified public accountant, obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and finance from the University of Tulsa and earned his Master of Business Administration from the University of .

Loren has been married to his wife Mindy for 25 years, and they have one child, Noah, who recently graduated from Olympia High School and is continuing his studies at the University of South Florida. JOB DESCRIPTION Provides senior leadership for all aspects of the College’s organizational development, human resources and diversity programs, including: recruitment and selection; employee relations; organizational communication; conferencing and college events; employee development; talent and succession planning; workforce analysis; compensation; benefits; human resources information management; equity issues; policies; and payroll. Develops the organization from a culture and performance perspective by creating, implementing and assessing programs that improve the overall health of the organization. This position serves as the advisor to the president and Board of Trustees in such matters.

PERSONAL BIO Amy Bosley began at Valencia College in 2000 as an adjunct professor of communications and earned tenure in 2003. During her tenure as a faculty member, Amy earned the NISOD Excellence Award and served in several roles at the College, lending her talents to the Faculty Association, the College Learning Council and the Association of Valencia Women. In 2006, she was the chair of Amy Bosley Valencia’s first faculty and staff giving campaign, and served as a VICE PRESIDENT, volunteer Foundation board leader from 2006-2013, leading to her designation as the College Advocate of the Year in 2007 and Director ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT Emerita in 2014 by the Valencia College Foundation. AND HUMAN RESOURCES In 2010, Amy was appointed to lead Valencia’s organizational development efforts as the associate vice president of organizational communication and development, and is currently the vice president of organizational development and human resources. Amy has a Bachelor of Arts in organizational communication and a Master of Arts in communication, both from the University of Central Florida. She holds a Doctor of Education in organizational leadership with a concentration in higher education leadership and human resources from Nova Southeastern University. JOB DESCRIPTION Provides senior leadership for the development and implementation of the College’s governmental engagement strategy with federal, state and locally elected officials, regulatory agencies and key policymakers. Plans, implements, manages and evaluates the programs and activities of legislative and agency relations for the College to ensure elected and appointed governmental representatives understand the College’s mission. Ensures that the College is aware of policy development and legislative/agency actions of importance to college operations.

PERSONAL BIO James “Jay” Galbraith joined Valencia College in March 2014 as vice president of public affairs and marketing, where he directs the College’s legislative affairs, public policy communications, marketing strategy and community engagement. Prior to joining Valencia, Jay served as vice president for state and domestic affairs at SeaWorld Entertainment, and was responsible for the company’s governmental affairs in Florida, Texas, California, Virginia and Pennsylvania. He also served on staff to two Jay Galbraith members of the United States House of Representatives, Congressman VICE PRESIDENT, Michael Bilirakis and Congressman Bill Grant. PUBLIC AFFAIRS AND MARKETING His experience in education includes stints as executive director of government affairs for the Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute, associate vice president for institutional advancement and director of major gifts at Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, North Carolina, and vice president for development of the Pinellas Education Foundation in Largo, Florida.

Jay is a graduate of Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science in political communication. He is on the board of the Florida Chamber Foundation, Central Florida Community Leadership Board for the American Diabetes Association and Florida Hospital Winter Garden Community Advisory Board. He and his wife, Carrie, have four children. PERSONAL BIO Geraldine Gallagher, Ph.D., CFRE, has served as Valencia Foundation president and CEO since 2001. She supports a 60-member volunteer board and has facilitated private giving of $49 million. During her tenure as Valencia’s professional fundraiser, the foundation disbursed $28 million and more than quadrupled net assets to $82 million. In 2005, Geraldine was named AFP Professional Fundraiser of the Year. Geraldine Gallagher Geraldine’s 30-plus years of experience include a decade at PRESIDENT AND CEO, North Harris College in Houston, serving as chief development and marketing officer. She also spent a decade in magazine VALENCIA FOUNDATION journalism. She earned degrees in journalism and education from Northwestern University, and attained CFRE certification in 2000. Her Ph.D. dissertation focused on the dynamics that inspire transformational gifts to community colleges.

She volunteers as a local leader for I Dignity, WMFE and the UCF Nonprofit Management program, and served for nearly 10 years on the boards of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Florida, Winter Garden Heritage Foundation, the Golden Rule Foundation and AFP Central Florida. She serves on the national boards of CASE IRF and CASE Community College Advancement Center. PERSONAL BIO Wendy Givoglu currently serves as the interim president for East and Winter Park Campuses. With 21 years of experience at Valencia College, a proven commitment to advancing Valencia’s Wendy Givoglu mission, deep connections to the Central Florida community INTERIM CAMPUS PRESIDENT, and an educational background that includes a doctorate degree in texts and technology from the University of Central Florida, EAST AND WINTER PARK CAMPUSES and bachelor’s and master’s degrees in humanities and humanistic studies from Florida State University, Wendy embodies new opportunity and renewed leadership.

Wendy began her journey at Valencia as a professor of humanities and art history in 1998, and most recently served as the dean for the School of Arts and Entertainment based on Valencia’s East Campus. In that role, she worked to deepen community impact, enhance arts and entertainment programs, and create a connected, consistent arts and entertainment program and culture across the College. Graham serves as the interim campus president of the West and Downtown Campuses, after serving four years as executive dean of the Winter Park Campus where she led the Terri A.Graham academic, fiscal and operational areas of the campus. INTERIM CAMPUS PRESIDENT, Prior to Valencia College, Terri was the dean of academic foundations at Seminole State College and served Florida State WEST AND DOWNTOWN CAMPUSES College at Jacksonville as the director of program development for workforce programs. She also taught student life skills and as an adjunct professor for early childhood associate and bachelor’s degree programs. She started her career as an elementary and middle school teacher.

She holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in elementary education from Florida A&M, along with a master’s degree in marketing and management from Rollins College and a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Florida. JOB DESCRIPTION Provides leadership for analysis and data management in support of institutional innovation and decision making, state and federal reporting, development and implementation of the college planning processes, and oversight of regional accreditation processes. PERSONAL BIO Brandon McKelvey joined Valencia in July 2018 as Valencia’s first vice president of analytics and planning. Brandon is an experienced educational leader with expertise in data analysis, planning and research. He earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Florida and attended Florida Brandon McKelvey State University as a presidential fellow, earning a master’s VICE PRESIDENT, and doctorate of science in sociology. Brandon completed a two-year fellowship with Harvard University and the Center ANALYTICS AND PLANNING for Education Policy Research through the Strategic Data Project and has served as a member of statewide committees supporting the implementation of accountability systems and statistical models.

Prior to accepting his role at Valencia, Brandon served as the associate superintendent of research, accountability and grants at Orange County Public Schools (OCPS). He also served as the senior director for accountability, research and assessment at OCPS and as a data analyst at Seminole County Public Schools. JOB DESCRIPTION Responsible for the conduct, coordination and management of the internal and external legal affairs of the College, the oversight of the formulation, review and approval of policies and procedures of the College and state relations matters.

PERSONAL BIO Bill Mullowney is the vice president for policy and general Bill Mullowney counsel at Valencia College. In this role, he serves as Valencia’s chief legal officer and as its lobbyist and legislative counsel to VICE PRESIDENT, the executive and legislative branches of the State of Florida. He POLICY AND GENERAL COUNSEL is currently a member of the Florida Association of Professional Lobbyists and is certified as a Designated Professional Lobbyist.

Bill holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Miami, School of Business, and his Master of Laws and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Miami, School of Law. Prior to his position at Valencia, Bill served as general counsel at Whittier College in California and, before that, as University Ombudsman at the University of Miami. Bill is a member of the Florida Bar and the State Bar of California and is Florida Bar Board Certified as a specialist in education law. JOB DESCRIPTION Executive Vice President and Provost Reporting directly to the president, the executive vice president provides leadership to the vice presidents of student affairs, academic affairs and analytics and plannings. The executive vice president will work in close partnership with the president and provide oversight of all campus operations through collaboration with senior leadership, comprised of the vice presidents and campus presidents. The executive vice president will foster positive and collaborative relationships with both internal and external partners of the College including but not limited to community, state and national organizations.

PERSONAL BIO Kathleen Plinske began at Valencia College in July 2010, where she served as president of the Osceola, Lake Nona, and Poinciana Campuses. In this role, Kathleen Plinske Kathleen provided leadership and guidance on academic programming, planning EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT and operations. In 2018, Kathleen was named executive vice president and provost. AND PROVOST Prior to coming to Valencia, Kathleen served in a number of positions at McHenry County College, a community college located in the northwestern suburbs of Chicago. During her nine-year tenure there she progressed rapidly into positions INTERIM CAMPUS PRESIDENT – of leadership, serving as a coordinator, director, executive director, associate vice OSCEOLA, LAKE NONA, president, vice president, and ultimately as the interim president. AND POINCIANA CAMPUSES A graduate of the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, Kathleen attended Indiana University-Bloomington as a Herman B. Wells Scholar, earning a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and physics with highest distinction and honors. She completed a master’s degree in Spanish from Roosevelt University, and a Doctorate in educational technology with honors from Pepperdine University. JOB DESCRIPTION Provides executive-level leadership for the development, implementation and assessment of student services across the Valencia College system and serves as the chief student affairs officer. Reporting to the executive vice president and provost, serves on the president’s cabinet and collaborates closely with other vice presidents and campus presidents. PERSONAL BIO Prior to Valencia College, Joe Richardson, vice president, student affairs, served as executive director of veteran support for the Georgia Veterans Education Career Transition Resource (VECTR) Center, which is designed to help veterans and their families explore colleges and universities in Georgia. Previously, he worked at the Mercer Engineering Research Center (MERC), leading a variety of multidisciplinary teams to Joe Richardson complete engineering projects. VICE PRESIDENT, Before his work at VECTR and MERC, Joe served for nearly 30 years in the United States Air Force, honorably retiring as a lieutenant colonel. STUDENT AFFAIRS During his tenure in the Air Force, in addition to logging 3,500 hours in the skies as an aviator, he served as chief training officer and director of flying operations/chief operating officer of a flying unit at Robins Air Force Base and held leadership roles in Student Affairs at the United States Air Force Academy.

Joe holds a bachelor’s degree in history from the United States Air Force Academy, a master’s degree in aeronautical science from Embry- Riddle Aeronautical University, a master’s degree in counseling from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and a doctorate in educational leadership from Mercer University.
