Khallikote University (KU) at Berhampur, the Unitary University in the state of with intensive research activities, aims at imparting quality education in several interdisciplinary professional courses. Our innovative post graduate curriculum and action plan will motivate the students by igniting their analytical thinking and creativity in these professional interdisciplinary courses which have social relevance as well as job prosperity. In order to realize the educational needs of the millennial, the University has implemented learning management system (LMS) to facilitate 24 x 7 learning. The world is changing fast and our next generation have to catch it up and compete with the rest of the globe with the sincere efforts, dedication, honesty, punctuality and devotion of our qualified faculty members. Moreover, Khallikote University is looking forward to be an innovative Research Intensive University of Odisha keeping the National Education Policy into account. Thus our goal is to create a pool of able, skilled and independent graduates, who will be progressive, confident and productive, and create a new competitive world.

1. KHALLIKOTE UNIVERSITY: A BRIEF PROFILE Khallikote University at Berhampur (KUB) is a unitary university with intensive research activities established by Government of Odisha and recognised by the University Grant Commission (UGC). With an aim to impart quality education in several interdisciplinary professional courses, the University is dedicated to innovative pedagogy, rigour in scholarship, inculcating institutional values and international linkages.

The University was established as the first cluster University in the state of Odisha on 30th May 2015 under Rashtriya Uchhatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) in exercise of the powers conferred by subsections (1) and (2) of the Odisha University Act, 1989 (Odisha Act 5, 1989). Further, on 26th February, 2020, Government of Odisha in exercise of the powers conferred by subsections (1) and (2) and clause (g) of the sub section (3) of section 32 of the Odisha University Act, 1989 (Odisha Act 5, 1989) altered the Khallikote University to a Unitary University with intensive research activities.

1.1 Vision of the University: Khallikote University aspires to be one of most dynamic, vibrant and research intensive university of Odisha, responsive to the changing global trends, providing unparallel educational opportunities for the students hailing from lower socio- economic strata of society seeking quality education in the emerging areas of the professional and IT savvy world.

1.2 Mission of the University: The University strives to work hard as a team with a sense of commitment towards the educational, cultural, economic, environmental, health and social advancement of the state of Odisha in general and southern Odisha in particular:  The University is devoted to provide quality education at master‟s and doctoral level through its own Post Graduate departments.  To meet the challenges of the knowledge era and keep pace with the knowledge explosion in higher education, the University is committed to inculcate and sustain quality in all the dimensions of higher education viz. teaching, learning, research, extension and governance while catering to the regional needs, national aspirations and global competitiveness.

1.5 Curriculum and Pedagogy The curriculum‟s of all the academic programmes of KUB are designed in consultation with senior academia as well as industry experts to empower the students to lead and excel in their respective career paths. All the programmes have both core and elective courses. The core courses facilitate the students the breadth and depth of knowledge of academic programmes pursuing. The elective courses offer the students the opportunity to choose from an array of subjects which will enhance the resume for a particular career. In order to provide cutting-edge research coupled with real life applications, these courses are taught by academia as well as industry experts.

Khallikote University employs outcome-based teaching and learning in all the six programmes and ensures the learning as student-centric learning. The admission into the M.Sc. in Biotechnology programme will be conducted through the Graduate Aptitude Test - Biotechnology (GAT-B) 2020, which will be conducted by the Regional Centre for Biotechnology.

2.1 Selection Criteria Admission into PG courses cannot be claimed as a matter of right. The University reserves the right to admit or deny admission to the students. Selection for

admission into different courses shall be done through CUCET 2020 OR CPET 2020 (through SAMS-Odisha) and academic career with a weightage of 70% and 30%, respectively. Absentees in both CUCET 2020 and CPET 2020 shall be disqualified for admission at KUB. However, any vacant seats for the two PG Courses (MBA in Business Economics and MBA in Tourism and Travel Management) from either CUCET 2020 or CPET 2020 will be filled through the candidates having valid OJEE/CAT/MAT score. The detailed criteria for career evaluation are as under:

In case, of +2 career mark being identical, the applicant born earlier will get the higher rank.

2.2 Eligibility For each programme the eligibility criteria has been specified at respective pages along with seats available and other related information.

2.3 Result-Awaited (RA) Cases Result-awaited categories are the applicants who have appeared in the qualifying examination for which the results are awaited. Such candidates are also eligible to

apply for consideration of provisional admission. All such candidates will be required to produce proof of having passed the qualifying examination to the institute latest by September 30, 2020 failing which such provisional admission will stand cancelled. Such students will be given minimum pass percentage of eligibility while preparing the merit list. If the candidate is found ineligible at a later date even after admission to Khallikote University his/her admission will be cancelled without refunding the amount paid.

2.4 Entrance Test The entrance test of CUCET-2020 will be held during September 18-20, 2020 and the entrance test of CPET-2020 (SAMS Odisha) will be held during September 30 to October 07, 2020. The entrance test for M.Sc. Biotechnology (GATB-2020) will be held on October 03, 2020.

2.4.1 Application and Short-listing Intimation After the declaration of the results of CUCET-2020, CPET-2020 and GATB-2020, the list of qualified candidates will be notified in the Khallikote University website www.kub.ac.in and also in the notice board of the University. The qualified candidates will be intimated and/or invited for Online/ Offline counseling at KUB as the case may be deemed fit, as per the notified counseling schedule. Along with the intimation letter, the candidate will be provided with other relevant information, i.e. i) the required fees to be paid by the candidate at the time of counseling-cum-admission, ii) the list of original documents to be verified during admission, and iii) the last date of admission for the concerned candidate.

2.5 Mode of Payment All types of fees prescribed for admission must be made through bank draft drawn in favour of Chairman, PG Council, Khallikote University payable at Central Bank of India, Khallikote College Branch (IFSC code. CBIN 0283241), Berhampur (the name, Exam. Ref/Roll no. and address of the student should be written clearly on the reverse of the bank draft).

3. ADMISSION PROCESS Selected candidates can take admission to the course for which they are selected, in person. The process of admission is done by depositing the following documents to the University. a. College Leaving Certificate (CLC) in original from the Institution last attended; b. Conduct Certificate in original from the Institution last attended; c. Original Mark Sheet/Certificates starting from H.S.C/Secondary to last qualifying examination; [in case of +3 Examinations/Degree in Science/Arts/Commerce/Engineering, etc., the mark sheets of First Examination to Final Examination (semester/year wise) are to be submitted separately, if detailed marks are not provided in the final mark sheet]. d. Migration Certificate in original for candidates from other Universities. In case the parent University is not providing the migration certificate at the time of admission, the admission of candidate will still be allowed if he/she gives an undertaking to that effect. e. Four attested passport size coloured photographs. f. Original Caste Certificate for SC/ST candidates. g. Required fees specified in the Intimation Letter. h. Copy of the certificate regarding claims with respect to any reservation such as disability for Physically Handicapped Person, Ex-serviceman, Sports quota, etc.

The University will notify to candidates indicating the completion of the admission process and details regarding commencement of classes.

3.1 Return of Original Documents Original documents will be returned after the verification except CLC, Conduct Certificate and Migration Certificate.

3.2 Cancellation or Withdrawal of Admission Normally the cancellation or withdrawal of admission is discouraged. However, KUB follows the policy of cancellation and withdrawal of admission as prescribed by University Grants Commission (UGC) from time to time. The guidelines prescribed by UGC regarding refund of fess that is in force while taking admission in KUB will remain applicable for the whole duration of the course.

3.3 Reservation For all the courses except M.Sc. in Biotechnology, subject to eligibility and submission of proof belonging to the following categories, some of the seats will be reserved as follows:

a) Scheduled Caste [SC] & Scheduled Tribe [ST]  SC-16.25% of the sanctioned strength of each course shall be reserved for SC applicants (G.O. 11710/HE, Dtd.: 01/06/2015)  ST-22.5% of the sanctioned strength of each course shall be reserved for ST applicants (G.O. 11710/HE, Dtd.: 01/06/2015)  The reserved seats are not interchangeable between SC & ST.  SC/ST applicants selected for admission on their merit shall not be counted against reserved seats.  However, any modification made by the Government in the reservation policy will be followed during admission. b) Persons with Disabilities (PwD)  5% of sanctioned seats shall be reserved for PwD (Persons with Disabilities) students with extent of disability not below 40% (Blind and Low Vision, Hard of Hearing, Locomotors Disability including Cerebral Palsy, Leprosy Cured, Dwarfism, Acid Attack Victims and Muscular Dystrophy, Autism, Intellectual Disability, Specific Learning Disability and Mental Illness). (G.O. 10161/HE, Dtd.: 07/04/2018)  In respect of PwD/Physically Handicapped, the candidate may be asked to appear before a Medical Board constituted by the Chairman, P.G. Council. The decision of the Medical Board will be final and binding. c) Ex-Serviceman [ESM], Serving Defense Personnel [SDP], Children of Martyrs [CoM]: 1% of the sanctioned seats shall be reserved for Self/ Children/ Wife/Husband/ of Ex-Serviceman, Serving Defence Personnel and Children of Martyrs. 3.4 Weightage Number of seats in each stream, except for M.Sc. in Biotechnology, filled up by the applicants with weightage, shall not exceed 10% of the sanctioned strength. This 10% of seats shall be proportionately distributed among all categories of applicants. An applicant, who is selected with weightage and taken admission, shall continue to remain in this 10% bracket, even if cut-off mark is reduced in subsequent selections. a) NCC:  Applicants holding B Certificate shall be given weightage of additional 5% of marks over and above the aggregate marks secured at the Degree (+3) or Equivalents examination.

 Applicants who have represented the State at the All India level NCC Camps/Courses/Activities shall be given weightage of additional 3% of marks over and above the aggregate marks secured at the Degree (+3) or Equivalents examination. b) NSS:  Applicants who have represented the Country at International level shall be given first priority as per the guidelines prescribed by Government of Odisha.  Applicants who have represented the state at National Level Camp shall be given Weightage of additional 5% of marks over and above the aggregate marks secured at the Degree / Equivalent examination.  Applicants who have represented the inter State Category Camp shall be given Weightage of additional 3% of marks over and above the aggregate marks secured at the Degree/Equivalent examination.  Applicants who have got the best NSS Volunteer award in University level shall be given Weightage of additional 2% of mark over and above the aggregate marks secured in Degree/Equivalent examination. c) Rover & Ranger:  Rovers & Rangers possessing and producing the original certificate signed by the President of India shall be given weightage of additional 5% of marks over and above the aggregate marks secured at the Degree (+3)/ Equivalent examination.  Rovers & Rangers possessing and producing the original certificate signed by the Governor/ PATRON/ President of the State association shall be given weightage of additional 2% of marks over and above the aggregate marks secured at the Degree (+3)/Equivalent examination. d) Sports & Games:  Applicants who have represented the country at international level shall be given first priority during preparation CPET-2020 state rank.  Applicants who have represented the state at national level shall be given weightage of additional 10% of marks over and above the aggregate marks secured at the Degree (+3)/Equivalent examination.  Applicants who have represented the school at the Inter-State School Sports Meet level shall be given weightage of additional 5% of marks over and above the aggregate marks secured at the Degree (+3)/ Equivalent examination.

g) International Students: Admission into P.G. courses are subject to clearance from Government of India with a student visa and submission of due medical fitness certificate including HIV test and other eligibility as prescribed by Govt. of India, which will be considered over and above the sanctioned strength in the P.G. Courses, as per availability of foreign students, NRIs, and Government of India sponsored candidate, after due consideration of such applications by the HOD and Chairman, P.G. Council with prior approval of the Vice-Chancellor. Admissions under these categories may be considered within two months from the last date of admission, if he/she has submitted the application with all documents within due date. There is no need for the candidates to appear for entrance test (CUCET 2020/CPET 2020). h) For all the reservation categories and special weightage categories, the applicant must submit certificates from competent authorities, acceptance of which is subject to satisfaction of Admission Committee of the University. There will be no validity limit for NCC/ NSS/ Scouts/ Sports certificates.

For M.Sc. Biotechnology programme, the reservation policy as framed by MHRD/DBT, Govt. of India, from time to time will be followed.

3.5 Age Limit and Relaxation: The maximum age limit for each course is 25 years (relaxation in age will be provided as per the guidelines stipulated by Govt. of Odisha/Govt. of India, as applicable). The industry/ government/ private sponsored candidate will be given relaxation in age equivalent to years of service rendered in the sponsored company/ institute.

4. POST GRADUATE DEPARTMENTS 4.1 Department of Biosciences and Bioinformatics About the course and its scope Currently, the department of Biosciences and Bioinformatics is offering two PG courses, i.e. M.Sc. in Bioscience and Bioinformatics, and M.Sc. in Biotechnology (Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India Supported Programme).

Both M.Sc. in Bioscience and Bioinformatics and M.Sc. in Biotechnology are unique interdisciplinary programmes by conglomerating basic biology with frontiers of various applied domains of biological science and biotechnology with emphasis on bioinformatics. The department is determined to evolve as one of the best in providing quality education in terms of classroom knowledge sharing and brilliantly designed modern technical laboratory facilities through it highly qualified and dedicated faculty members. Our determination to be easily accessible to student‟s purpose will hopefully make us a better performer.

We strongly believe that healthy professional academic atmosphere can be produced through scientific discussion and sharing novel ideas. Thus, the students can exploit the knowledge by actively participating in journal clubs, seminars and industry-academia visits in addition to class room and laboratory based learning, where they can stay updated with the progress in current day research and industry. To make the student fit for both higher learning as well as industry ready, each student will be assigned with a project work in the final semester, where they will be trained under the supervision of a faculty member. Apart from this, few open courses will be proposed in collaboration with other departments of our university that will help the students keep their analytical mind open to other domains of academics. Recently, this department was awarded with the „Centre of Excellence on Bioprospecting of Ethno-pharmaceutical of Southern Odisha‟ by OHEPEE, Govt. of Odisha through World Bank funding scheme. This Centre will carry out intensive research activities on medicinal plants in Southern Odisha and their potential in delivering various bio-active compounds for therapeutics usage. The centre will

4.2 Department of Natural Resources Management and Geo-informatics About the course and its scope Master degree (M.A./M.Sc) in Natural Resources Management and Geo- Informatics (NRMG) is a two year interdisciplinary program for students who want to develop i) understanding in natural resource studies, conservation science, ecological science and associated tools, and ii) skills in geospatial technologies and required knowledge that will contribute to find sustainable solution to most pressing real-world challenges in managing the natural resources and emerging environmental problems. The main focus of the course is „translating‟ natural resource science and social science within areas of the world‟s highly vulnerable regions into „science for policy and decision making‟ products, advice and services. 4.3 Department of Library and Information Science About the Course and its scope The two years Master of Library and Information Science (also termed as MLIS) Programme under Semester-cum-Choice Based Credit System shall comprise of various papers/courses spreading over four semesters. Master of Library and Information Science is a professional postgraduate course that covers an advanced study of the principles and practices of Library Science and Library Administration along with the current technologies involved therein. The program is designed to prepare students with a strong foundation in LIS and to make them enable to handle effectively the modern day libraries and information centers. The program is intended to provide a master-level library and information technology-oriented curriculum that focuses on the practices, design, and development of information systems, databases & repositories to solve real-world problems. Laying of Foundation Stone of Khallikote University at Palur Hills Government of Odisha has allotted a piece of land at Pallur hills on the outskirts of Berhampur city for the permanent campus of Khallikote University. Recently, on 01st July 2020, the foundation stone was laid by His Excellency, Prof. Ganeshi Lal, Honourable Chancellor of Khallikote University and Governor of Odisha, through video conferencing, for the construction of Academic Block, Student Hostel, Auditorium, etc.

How to reach Khallikote University The transit campus of Khallikote University is located at GMax Building on NH-16, in Konisi, Berhampur. The campus is around 12 km from Berhampur city centre and is well connected through various modes of transportation. Regular city buses ply from Berhampur bus stand to Konisi Junction, from where the present university campus is just around 400 mtrs away.
