Don’t forget the Toys for the tots! Each person wearing the distinction of honor is unsuspecting of its powerful significance. Most medals or citations are awarded with total surprise to the men or women who are just doing their appointed tasks. THE 2019 FALLS RUN ART SHOW By Carolyn Harmon

It was a great turnout for an afternoon of the beautiful art of 17 artists, luscious food, fun, and fellowship.

As usual this was so enjoyable. We do have so many talented artists here! Just want to say thank you to the artists and the rest of the organizers of this yearly event. I really look forward to it each year. — Darleen Mandt

A lesson in the evolution of a portrait by Toni Brown November 2019 Falls Run GAZETTE 7

All of the Art Shows during the past years have been beautiful but this last one, yesterday, was spectacular. The number of art that was displayed was almost overwhelming and the talent is absolutely remarkable What talent we have in Falls Run and thank you so much for sharing. Actually there were a couple of paintings that I would have purchased but unfortunately they were not for sale and I understand why. Thank everyone who worked so hard to make a wonderful afternoon for the community. — Mary Mork

It was a very special day for one man, surrounded by his peers, aided by his daughters, and loved by all: Robert Bowen is truly Falls Run’s own talented treasure. A retired Navy man, he can still tell some tales with a smile and a twinkle in his eyes, although he has reached the venerable age of 90. Those same eyes have failed, and Bob is now legally blind. Remarkably, he still paints and feels that now he is doing his best work. Congratulations to Bob Owen upon receiving The Falls Run Art Community recognition of your “efforts and talents as a distinguished artist.”

Thank you to all who attended the Community Art Show yesterday. Seventeen artists displayed their beautiful works and enjoyed appreciation, comments and purchases. Many helping hands contributed to the success of the show--Lara and Sean for activity support and set-up, Taylor Cullar and Linda Ward for directing the show staging and layout, Vera Lukas and Margie Marfori for organizing and managing refreshments and each of the talented artists in our community for sharing their fine works. It is always remarkable to enjoy the kindness and support extended within our community! — Ann Holt Paintings by Bob Bowen 8 Falls Run GAZETTE November 2019

Setting the Record Straight By Nancy Bevilacqua A full year before the Pilgrims set foot in Plymouth, , the tiny Good Ship Margaret carried 35 souls across the stormy Atlantic. Their destination was the Berkeley Hundred on the King James River. Seasick passengers prayed almost constantly for their safety. In addition to coping with vermin and claustrophobia, there was no way to bathe. After 10 weeks, the battered ship pulled into the Ches- apeake Bay—on the Sabbath. On December 4, they arrived at the Berkeley site and dropped anchor.
