Riders were able to show-off what they have worked towards over the last few years. The first two days of the 2012 Paralympic Equestrian competition consisted of the Team Test where Great Britain dominated four of the five grade levels. Over the last two days during the Para-Dressage Individual Test competition however, individual powerhouses overthrew Great Britain's reign. • Shelley Yearbook
The Shelley Centre for Therapeutic Riding 2013 From the Chairman- December 2012 Dear Supporters, Well, what an amazing year! We started with a drought and ended up with the wettest, coldest summer! We’ve had two events that most of us will never see again in our lifetime – the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, and the most awe-inspiring London Olympics and Paralympics. This was followed by Murray winning the tennis, our golfers triumphant at the Ryder Cup, and we’ve had the first ever ‘Brit’ win the Tour de France. Records were being broken here, there and everywhere! Although we’ve been through a recession, these events have uplifted the country - they’ve brought out what puts the ‘Great’ in Great Britain and highlighted what we’re best at. For the Jubilee, it was our skill at pageantry, our military precision and organisational ability, our patriotism and stoicism to our weather! Then with the Olympics and Paralympics the eyes of the world were on us again. You can add to the list our sporting prowess and what our builders, architects, gardeners, directors, dancers, musicians and entertainers had to offer. And didn’t we pull it off!! This spirit has rubbed off for us here at the Shelley Centre, too. Our hard work at raising our profile is paying off with many more people becoming aware of what we do, realizing how valuable it is, and coming on board to support us. We have been overwhelmed at the generosity and support for all of our fund-raising events, and for the enthusiasm of our supporters to put on events themselves to raise money on our behalf.

  • Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2014 in Normandy Left Me Amazed After Watching the Riders at Close Quarters
LETTER FROM THE CHAIRMAN Inspiration, motivation, passion and perspective. Every day we follow those values with dedication to enlighten and entertain our HORSE TIMES readers and, perhaps, to leave a lasting mark. Attending the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2014 in Normandy left me amazed after watching the riders at close quarters. Their ability to rise to the necessary competitive level of this event, the feeling of despondence on a bad competition day, and the hope for a better new day demonstrated each competitor’s strength, resilience, and character in a very inspiring way. Eye-catching fence designs featuring the region of Normandy were creative and not your usual logo-branded jumps. Normandy on its own was fabulous; Deauville, Honfleur, Arromanche and Caen were all breath-taking venues for this important event. Moments from the Games including the nerve-wracking halts, near falls, and falls during the cross-country and the tremendous mental pressure on the riders of the final top four in show jumping were exhilarating where Frederic Cottier, the show jumping course designer, displayed his wealth of expertise and ability in designing such competitive and technical, yet safe, courses. Every day of the Games we stayed up till after midnight to record, compile and organise all of these special moments and share some of our work efforts on our Social Media channels. The look of the courses and fences, the expressions on the faces of every enthusiast cheering for his friend or countryman or favourite riders - all of those glorious moments are gone, but are still captured on our files.

It was Great Britain that developed Para-Dressage from the grass roots first and created an en.re Para-Equestrian culture. It was Great Britain who aligned with their able-bodied Equestrian associa.on, and it was Great Britain who earned Team Gold every year since the first inclusion of Para-Dressage at the 1996 Atlanta Paralympics. The growth within Great Britain is an example of the growth around the world and in the United States for the high performance discipline of Para-Equestrian Dressage.
