    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 10, 2019 AHL ANNOUNCES NEW CLASS OF INDUCTEES INTO AMERICAN HOCKEY LEAGUE HALL OF FAME SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League today announced the four people selected for induction into the American Hockey League Hall of Fame as the Class of 2020. Honored by the AHL Hall of Fame Selection Committee as the 15th group of enshrinees are Robbie Ftorek, Denis Hamel, Darren Haydar and Fred Thurier. “Since 1936, the history of the American Hockey League has been defined by the people who have helped build upon its foundation of excellence,” said David Andrews, AHL President and Chief Executive Officer. “Each of these four individuals performed at the highest levels throughout their careers, and the AHL Board of Governors unanimously endorses the Selection Committee’s recommendation for their induction into the American Hockey League Hall of Fame as the Class of 2020.” The Class of 2020 will be honored as part of the festivities at the 2020 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Ontario International Airport, hosted by the Ontario Reign. The American Hockey League Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Ceremony is scheduled for January 27. Formed in 2006 to recognize, honor and celebrate individuals for their outstanding achievements and contributions in the American Hockey League, the AHL Hall of Fame is housed online at www.AHLHallofFame.com and is accessible to fans worldwide as part of the AHL Internet Network.     SPRINGFIELD THUNDERBIRDS: COACHES BIOS GEORDIE KINNEAR - HEAD COACH Geordie Kinnear joins the Springfield Thunderbirds as head coach after serving as an AHL assistant coach since 2001. Kinnear began his coaching career with the Albany River Rats following an eight South Division -year professional playing career and also served as a special assignment scout for the New Jersey Devils during the 2004-05 season. After he played three seasons of junior hockey for the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League, the New Jersey Devils drafted Kinnear in the seventh round (162nd overall) of the 1992 NHL Entry Draft. Beginning with the 1993-94 season, he skated with Albany for the first six years of his career, helping the team reach the playoffs each season. Over that time, he was a member of Albany’s 1995 Calder Cup championship team, appeared in four consecutive AHL All-Star Classics (1995-1999) and served as team captain for three seasons (1996-1999). Kinnear signed with the Atlanta Thrashers as a free agent in August of 1999, making his National Hockey League debut by appearing in four games with Atlanta, posting a total of 13 penalty minutes. He split the 1999-2000 season between Atlanta and the Thrashers’ IHL affiliate, the Orlando Solar Bears. After starting the 2000-01 season with Orlando, he was traded back to New Jersey on Nov. 6, 2000, and played 14 games with Albany before being forced to retire due to injury in December of 2000. A defenseman originally from Simcoe, Ontario, Kinnear totaled 30 goals, 68 assists and 1,094 penalty minutes over the course of 406 career AHL games with Albany.

More than 16,000 fans poured TALE OF THE TAPE through the then-Rosemont Horizon’s doors to find out whether these guys really were animals. REGULAR-SEASON SERIES 0-0-0-0 Milwaukee | 0-0-0-0 Chicago Wayne Messmer sang an inspirational national anthem -- his first since being wounded in the throat by a gunshot six months earlier -- with Nancy Faust accompanying him on organ. When Todd LAST MEETING Harkins scored the first goal just 1:14 into the game, fans threw raw meat on the ice. And by the time April 22, 2018 goaltender Wendell Young and the Wolves wrapped up their 4-2 victory over the Detroit Vipers, a love affair between a hockey team and a city had begun. It’s fitting that the Wolves meet the Milwaukee Admirals on this anniversary because the Admirals are 3-0-0-0 3-0-0-0 the only American Hockey League team that was a part of the International Hockey League along with the Wolves in 1994-95 -- and these two teams have been together every year since. He split the 1999-2000 season between Atlanta and the Thrashers’ IHL affiliate, the Orlando Solar Bears. After starting the 2000-01 season with Orlando, he was traded back to New Jersey on Nov. 6, 2000, and played 14 games with Albany before being forced to retire due to injury in December of 2000. A defenseman originally from Simcoe, Ontario, Kinnear totaled 30 goals, 68 assists and 1,094 penalty minutes over the course of 406 career AHL games with Albany.

    COREY HIRSCH Welcome to this week’s edition of the Calgary Canucks alumni profile. Corey Hirsch spent one season in the blue, green and white as a 15 year old backup goalie during the 1987-88 season. Corey played a handful of games during the season and considered Buddy Brazier, the team’s starting goalie at the time a mentor. “Buddy was so good to me, he was a hard edged guy but as a 15 year old he really looked out for me and helped me develop during my time in Calgary”. Corey ended up playing game 7 of the Abbot Cup final against the Notre Dame Hounds in one of the most talked about games in team history. “Curtis Joseph was really the biggest difference in the end result, you look back and think about playing against him and Rod Corey Hirsch Brind’Amour and they were all that and then some” Corey reflected further “it was a memorable year, especially with Craig Thorson passing away from 01-Jul-72 Born cancer, I was 15 and hadn’t really ever gone through anything like that.
