18 Fisher, Millcreek and Strattanville, The Clarion River played such an important part in the history of this area. The Native Americans called the river Tobecco. In later years a surveying crew was camping on the banks of the river. One of the surveyor stated the sounds of nature were so clear and distinct and were like a clarion call. The term appeared to take hold and in 1819 the state government officially used “Clarion” as the name of the present day Clarion River. The first public road built in Clarion County was the Old State Road. The road was built by the government to get military personnel and supplies from the eastern part of Pennsylvania to Fort LeBouf during the French and Indian War. To this day, parts of the road continue to exist in Millcreek Twp. Fisher, PA. “Leaning Toward Fisher” and “True Tales of the Clarion River” are two publications filled with personal stories of the Clarion River and the lumbering business dating back to the 1830’s.

East Brady located in Clarion County and is situated in the bend in the Allegheny River, at a point opposite to what was formerly known as “The Great Western”. These combined form one of nature’s grandest display.
