Clarion County, 77 miles north-northeast of Pittsburgh positions itself midway between Chicago and New York City. It is conveniently located along I-80 with six (6) exits spanning the county with Exits 42 through 64. The county is under one (1) hour from the Ohio border, two (2) hours from Erie and State College, and just one and a half (1.5) hours from the border of West Virginia. Clarion County is the gateway to the Pennsylvania Great Outdoors and Pennsylvania Wild Regions. While visiting Clarion County choose from the five (5) golf courses; paved bike trails; multiple hiking trails; and class one canoeing, kayaking and boating. The county is the home of Clarion University of Pennsylvania , Cook Forest State Park, two (2) nationally recognized rivers (Clarion and Allegheny), Foxburg Country Club, the oldest golf course in continuous play in the U.S. and the award-winning Autumn Leaf Festival event that attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. Visit Clarion County 1 NATURAL ATTRACTIONS CLARION RIVER In 2019, the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the Pennsylvania Organization for Waterways and Rivers announced the Clarion River was voted the state’s 2019 River of the Year. Every year anglers, kayakers, boaters, and tourists in general are attracted to the 110 mile long river. The river becomes a real spectacle in the fall as it sits in a valley of brightly-colored foliage. TRAILS Whether on foot, wheels, or horseback, you are never too far from a trail in Clarion County. There are over 400 miles of trails in Clarion County which gives hikers, bikers and horseback riders a chance to experience some of Clarion’s beautiful outdoors. Among the many trails, 96 miles of the North Country Trail flows through the county. The North Country Trail famously stretches 4,600 miles across eight states. Bicyclists have the opportunity to enjoy a leisurely ride on Rail-66, the Redbank Valley Trail or spend a day riding on the 13 miles of bike routes in Cook Forest. Equestrians can also see Clarion’s beauty by riding on one of several trails near or in Cook Forest. COOK FOREST Found in the northeastern part of Clarion County, Cook Forest State Park draws thousands of visitors year-round to enjoy its natural beauty. Cook Forest was named the Pennsylvania 2018 Park of the year and is well known for its camping, hiking, picnicking, river activities and more. Two popular locations within Cook Forest are the Seneca Point Overlook and the 80-foot Fire Tower which allows spectators to see up to 15-20 miles on a clear day. 2 FESTIVALS and EVENTS March Clarion River Jam Bluegrass Festival A caravan of local and regional bluegrass talent in a procession of near constant music over a weekend schedule stuffed with nearly 50 artists.
