Soldiers based in Camp Film City (CFC) are fortunate to have a very active and capable medical detachment ready to deal will all their medical needs. is month the Chronicle team spoke with Capt Della Volpe who is IC of the Medical Detachment and detachment 2IC, Lt Dafne Evangelista. Capt Della Volpe explained that the ultimate purpose of the medical detachment in CFC is to support KFOR troops in performing their tasks by preserving and restoring their health and operational strength. “Health is an important force multiplier and the role we ful l here makes an important contribution to achieving the mission”, he said. e sta at the Medical Detachment consists of two doctors, four nurses and two drivers. Role 3 hospitals are capable of conducting specialized surgery, care and providing additional medical support. Role 4 treatment is the highest level of medical facility. If KFOR personnel need treatment in a Role 4 facility they will be brought to a Role 4 hospital in Skopje. Role 4 hospitals provide de nitive care specialist surgical and medical procedures, reconstructive surgery and rehabilitation. In some cases patients can be directly evacuated to their native country if stable enough to travel. In addition to their normal tasks performed by the medical detachment, they can respond to medical emergencies within 20km from CFC. ey can be deployed to assist the local population in the event of a major emergency. e team also deliver rst aid training and revision to KFOR’s soldiers. Occasionally they conduct training with the KSF in basic rst aid procedures. e medical facility at CFC is an important asset and the personnel employed there, play a signi cant role in supporting KFOR’s mission. In an article about an Italian run medical facility, it seems appropriate to leave the nal words of this article to Marcus Tullius Cicero, one of Rome’s greatest orators when he commented about life in the medical profession: Hominenim ad deos nulla re proprius accedunt quam salutem hominibus dando! Its activities include the execution of projects in order to promote the entire Balkan region as a tourist destination. In addition, its purpose is to restore the positive image of the Balkans in the public eye and promote their exceptional natural, histo- rical, cultural and anthropological heritage. The name of the Association, BALKANIA, sounds like a name of a new imaginary land on the territories represented by the hospitality of their population. One of the objectives of the project is to create a virtual geographic region that includes the territories and regions which are today identified with the term BALKANS. The efforts of the Association are aimed at channeling its energy to all forms that are alterna- tive to mass tourism, and which are in terms of the development of macro sectors identified as natural tourism, rural tourism and cultural tourism. BALKANIA is established on 24 .03.2009 in Skopje, in agreement with the Macedonian laws. It is formed by a group of partners from Macedonia, Bulgaria and Italy, with members from Bulgaria, Serbia, Montenegro , Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina ,Greece , Kosovo and Ma- cedonia .

    ATLAS OF TOURISM POTENTIAL OF SERBIAN PROTECTED AREAS Dear reader, Serbia’s protected areas, the jewels of the country, contain nu- merous wonders of nature. A variety of rare, endangered animal and plant species can be observed in their natural habitat. Desi- gnating protected areas allows the provision of safe harbours for these species and ecosystems, which in many cases are unique. And promoting nature-respecting tourism and recreation in the- se areas not only allows visitors to explore these wonders, but also contributes to the livelihood of the people and communities who have lived in and shaped those landscapes over centuries. It is UNDP’s ambition, together with the authorities and people of Serbia, to support tourism and recreation in protected areas, so that you can explore their treasures. Hiking, bird watching, sport fishing, camping, but also adventurous activities, such as mountain biking, canyoning, paragliding or rafting, offer multiple opportunities for spending high quality time outdoors. Tourism infrastructure – like visitor centres, educational signalization, ob- servation towers and walking trails – are currently being built in all the protected areas to facilitate and guide visitors in exploring the nature, while enhancing the understanding and willingness to protect their unique character and inherent, rare species. I hope this “Atlas of Tourism Potential of Serbian Protected Are- as” will inspire you, guide you to remote corners of Serbia, and wake your curiosity to explore some of the most beautiful sides of this country.     Summer workcamp program in Kosovo GAIA SCI Kosovo This year we have some very interesting and diverse workcamps for people interested to volunteer in Kosovo, as well as youth exchanges for those who want to learn more and to experience local culture and challenges people face here. All programs are for free and accommodation and food are provided. Additionally, travel costs for 3 workcamps will be covered for volunteers from Serbia, Macedonia, Kosovo, Albania, Montenegro and Bulgaria will be reimbursed, while travel costs for participants for Youth Exchange are covered for all.
