NEW CLIO : TWO GUISES FOR RENAULT'S PERFORMANCE HATCHBACK

For several years, the Renault Sport-badged version of the brand's best-selling hatchback has been unanimously praised by enthusiasts as one of the best performance hatches of its segment, and definitely one of the most fun to drive. Building on this success, Renault has chosen the 2009 Geneva Motor Show to reveal New Clio Renault Sport. To match the demands and needs of customers as closely as possible, Clio Renault Sport today comes in two distinct guises, with the introduction of the Luxe (name may differ according to market) and Cup versions. Since 2000, the successive variants of Clio Renault Sport have led to it becoming the best-selling performance hatchback of its class, with worldwide sales of more than 70,000 cars. Renault has chosen Geneva to reveal four new models in the C segment which forms the core of the European market, namely Grand Scénic, Scénic, Mégane Estate and Mégane Renault Sport. New Renault Grand Scénic, which will be available in five- and seven-seat form, will become the third member of the New Mégane family in the wake of the Hatchback and Coupé versions when it is released in western Europe this April. Its introduction will be followed by the launches of New and New Renault Mégane Estate in June, before New Mégane Renault Sport appears on the market in the autumn. In less than a year, Renault will have renewed practically its entire segment line-up. It will consequently boast one of the European market's youngest ranges, as well as the most extensive MPV line-up in Europe with no fewer than six models: Renault Modus, Grand Modus, Renault Scénic, Grand Scénic, and Grand Espace.

NEW RENAULT MÉGANE ESTATE: HIGHLY PRACTICAL AND A REAL PLEASURE TO DRIVE

The New Mégane family has been extended to include a new model which features its own distinct personality: New Renault Mégane Estate. Its dynamic, elegant lines give it undeniable sporting appeal without detracting from its practical design and vast carrying capacity. New Renault Mégane Estate boasts a raft of high-tech equipment, too, including Carminat TomTom®, a new integrated navigation system for a groundbreaking price of less than €500. Compared with New Renault Mégane Hatchback, the extended and longer rear overhang have freed up additional cabin space for occupants, as well as extra carrying capacity. New Renault Mégane Estate comes with a wide choice of engines which combine performance with respect for the environment, including the new TCe 130 petrol unit.

2 NEW RENAULT SCÉNIC AND GRAND SCÉNIC: DYNAMIC MPVs, WITH THE ACCENT ON TRAVELLING COMFORT

Following the launches of New Mégane Hatchback and New Mégane Coupé, Renault will further extend its line-up this spring with the introduction of New Grand Scénic, followed by the later release of New Scénic. Building on the success of Scénic I and Scénic II, and profiting from its unrivalled expertise in the fields of user-friendly interiors, cabin space and travelling comfort, Renault is poised to renew the compact MPV segment's standard-setting model with the launch of New Grand Scénic (five and seven seats) and New Scénic (five seats). New Renault Scénic and New Renault Grand Scénic both feature dynamic, distinctive styling, while their roomy interiors, comfort-related appointments, stowage solutions and high-tech equipment are destined to establish new benchmarks for their class.

NEW MÉGANE RENAULT SPORT: 250HP OF SHEER PLEASURE

As the latest in a long line of Renault sporting models, New Mégane Renault Sport stands out through its exhilarating performance and handling. The cocktail of its 250hp engine, unmistakable sporting coupé credentials and the choice of two chassis ('Sport' and 'Cup', with limited slip differential) is clear evidence that New Mégane Renault Sport has been honed to offer an extreme ride. Coming after Mégane F1 Team R26 and Mégane R26.R, New Mégane Renault Sport profits fully from Renault Sport Technologies' extensive experience when it comes to manufacturing production sporting models.

RENAULT CARMINAT: A RECORD OF TRAILBLAZING INNOVATION

Ever since the creation of its Atlas research programme as far back as 1982, Renault has stood out as a pioneer in the development of affordable automobile navigation systems for more than 25 years. The first road tests of the Carminat system with date back to 1994, while the following year saw Renault become the first carmaker to market a fully-integrated navigation system. Since then, ongoing work on successive Carminat systems has been guided by a will to continue taking this feature of modern-day mobility forward with the accent on safety. Today sees Renault break new ground with the introduction of an advanced navigation system for less than €500. Carminat TomTom® combines the expertise of the pioneer of in-car navigation with that of the leading producer of removable navigation systems.

RENAULT AND THE ENVIRONMENT: TARGETING ZERO EMISSIONS

Renault's longstanding quest to curb CO2 emissions was again rewarded with a top-three ranking in the list of Europe's most efficient carmakers at the end of 2008. Sixty per cent of the vehicles sold by the group (Renault and Dacia) in Europe in 2008 emitted less than 140g of CO2/km (compared with 48 per cent in 2007) Twenty per cent of the vehicles sold by the group (Renault and Dacia) in Europe in 2008 emitted less than 120g of CO2/km.

Meanwhile, Renault is actively pursuing its breakaway strategy when it comes to reducing CO2 emissions with the development of electric vehicles. Z.E. Concept (Zero Emission Concept) showcases Renault's vision of what an electric vehicle should be, namely an efficient, easy-to-use zero-emission car. Based on the new be bop, the philosophy behind Z.E. Concept's design is that of an electric vehicle which reduces energy consumption to an absolute minimum, yet still features indispensable comfort-related equipment.

SAFETY INNOVATIONS AIMED AT REAL-LIFE SITUATIONS

Renault benefits from a unique pool of expertise when it comes to safety, and the brand continues to have a real edge over the majority of its rivals. With a strategy focusing on four different areas, namely accident prevention, corrective action, occupant protection and road safety awareness, Renault is constantly innovating to provide its customers with a range of solutions that offer a response to the realities of everyday motoring. Renault's approach to safety is based on detailed analysis of real-life accidents with a view to delivering products that are adapted to the realities of motoring. The priority is accordingly given to the most effective technologies when it comes to preventing accident risks, taking corrective action in unexpected situations and protecting occupants should a collision occur. When it comes to occupant protection, Renault has emerged over the years as the benchmark manufacturer, a status mirrored by the high scores its models have achieved in crash tests carried out by the independent body EuroNCAP. Renault is the only carmaker to claim a record of 11 five-star ratings.

EXTERIOR STYLING CUES SHARED WITH NEW RENAULT MÉGANE

A compact hatchback with clear family ties with New Renault Mégane From the outset, Renault's Corporate Design Department worked closely with the project engineers to incorporate the brand's new styling identity. New Renault Clio sits squarely on the road and features more streamlined lines thanks to its extended length (4,027mm; 41mm longer than Clio III), while the contours of its headlamps extend downward to meet the outer parts of the grille. The dynamic front bumper design incorporates a broad air intake which is picked out with matt black protective mouldings. The steeply-raked 'soft' nose is flanked by the foglamps and gives the new hatchback a determined gaze, while the two-tone exterior mirror housings stand out through their sleeker forms. At the rear, the waistline is extended by new light clusters, and the more dynamic feel of New Renault Clio is further emphasized by the revised bumper, as well as by the reversing lights and rear fog lights which are situated lower down and closer to the car's sides.

7 A WIDE CHOICE OF SPORTING VERSIONS

A line-up of three sporting versions From launch, the New Renault Clio catalogue will feature a line-up of three sporting versions, namely New Renault Clio GT, plus 'Luxe' and 'Cup' versions of Clio Renault Sport. • New Renault Clio GT: as is the case with other Renault models, the GT version is based on the hatchback variant (three and five-door versions). The combination of New Renault Clio GT's racy looks, specific suspension and high performance engines make it ideal for sampling the joys of sporty motoring. • Renault Sport Luxe and Renault Sport Cup1: Clio Renault Sport packs even more exclusive, efficient performance. To match customer demand as closely as possible, the model is now available in a choice of two versions: o Renault Sport Luxe (name may differ depending on market): features a 'Sport' chassis for customers looking for a comfortable, extensively equipped and customizable performance hatchback. o Renault Sport Cup: for enthusiasts looking for sporting sensations and efficient sports performance. It is equipped with the lighter 'Cup' chassis which enables it to boast the best weight-to-power ratio (6kg/hp) of its class.

New Renault Clio GT, a more purposeful personality • Styling: New Renault Clio GT can be recognized by its exclusive Malta Blue body colour and expressive, racy lines. It sits squarely on its 16-inch “Dark Anthracite” aluminium alloy wheels, while its more assertive front end features a gloss black grille and distinctive black headlamp masks. The lines of the sills point to the performance of the GT version's specific suspension. Meanwhile, the twin exhaust tailpipes and rear lip spoiler underline New Renault Clio GT's undeniable sports tourer looks. Inside, eye-catching sporty details include drilled aluminium pedal covers and extra side support for the seats, as seen on New Clio Renault Sport, plus GT-badging for the front seats. • Suspension: Renault Sport Technologies' engineers have paid special attention to ensure that New Renault Clio GT's chassis combines first class dynamic ability with a comfortable ride. The stiffness of the front springs and the calibration of the front dampers have been uprated by 15 per cent compared to the previous version. The variable-rate coil springs at the rear are 15 per cent stiffer, too, and the new rear dampers feature bigger diameter rods. These solutions ensure enhanced control of body movement and more precise cornering without detracting from comfort. To counter body roll, the front anti-roll bar diameter has been increased from 20.5 to 21mm, while the rear suspension is equipped with the same stiffer bushes as New Clio Renault Sport. The directional stability of the rear

8 end has been made more precise by curbing of parasitic movements. New Renault Clio GT's power steering is also more direct for swifter response and greater driving pleasure. • Powertrains: the GT version is available with a choice of three engines (depending on market): the 1.6 16V 128 (exclusive to New Renault Clio GT), the 2.0 16V 140 and the dCi 105. They all drive through the TL4 six-speed gearbox.

Carminat TomTom®: THE AFFORDABLE INTEGRATED NAVIGATION SYSTEM2

Carminat TomTom®: the first updatable, integrated GPS navigation system for less than €500 Until today, no original equipment navigation system had been available for the compact car segment for less than €500. Manufacturers frequently propose either semi-integrated, entry level monochrome systems which use the radio's small screen, or else products that are more costly. However, such solutions fail to really meet the expectations of customers who have consequently turned increasingly to more affordable removable products, which explains why this market is expanding so quickly. Today, for less than €500, Carminat TomTom® brings those who hesitate between removable and integrated navigation systems the best of both worlds, and gives New Renault Clio owners a whole new outlook on motoring mobility. The advantages of an integrated system: positioned high up on New Renault Clio's dashboard, the large 5.8-inch (14.73cm) colour screen is close to the driver's line of sight, which means that his or her attention can stay fully focused on the road ahead. A bespoke exterior aerial ensures optimal GPS signal reception, while using the loudspeakers of the car's own audio system guarantees clear sound. Integrated systems offer greater protection from theft, too, and are safer in an accident. Carminat TomTom® is operated by a user-friendly Bluetooth® remote control, and covers some 40 countries across western and eastern Europe and Scandinavia, plus Turkey and South Africa. This new GPS navigation system is compatible with the new range of audio systems available for New Renault Clio.

9 FUNDAMENTAL STRENGTHS CARRIED OVER FROM CLIO III

• New Renault Clio Estate: a practical estate with expressive, distinctive looks In order to capitalize on its existing popularity (17 per cent of Clio III sales in Europe), New Renault Clio Estate features the same front-end styling cues as the hatchback version, which itself takes its inspiration from New Renault Mégane. With a length of 4,228mm (an increase of 26mm over Clio III Estate), New Renault Clio Estate continues to stand out as one of the market's most compact estates, while its dynamic stance is heightened by its steeply-raked rear screen. The latter is topped by a spoiler and black or chrome profiled roof bars (depending on version) which are unmistakable pointers to New Renault Clio Estate's calling as the perfect leisure car. The longer rear overhang frees up a generous boot volume of 439dm3 (VDA, up to parcel shelf), a figure which extends to 1,277dm3 (VDA) with the easy-to-manipulate rear benchseat fully folded. Meanwhile, New Renault Clio Estate's removable boot floor gives owners the opportunity to choose between maximum carrying capacity or a completely flat floor and makes it easy to switch between a wide variety of uses. The baggage cover, which is often seen as something that gets in the way, and the removable floor can both be stored away in their own clever, practical compartments. • New Renault Clio's interior styling: perceived quality and user friendly New Renault Clio's interior styling was guided by a desire to provide a sense of well-being and perceived quality. The dashboard is available with a soft-touch finish and incorporates clear, easy-to- read instruments, while the fully-integrated screen of the Carminat TomTom® satnav system is positioned at the top of the centre console. New Renault Clio is a car in which drivers feel immediately at home. The practical controls have been made even more user-friendly, including the short steering wheel-mounted stalks. The switch for the cruise control and speed limiter has been moved to the centre console, alongside the parking brake, and the dashboard display permits drivers to check whether the cruise control/speed limiter is activated or not. Meanwhile, special care has gone into the interior trim, with a range of elegant new ambiences depending on equipment level. Customers can choose a bright, relaxing hue, or might prefer a darker, sportier feel such as that proposed for New Renault Clio GT. • Benchmark cabin space and comfort New Renault Clio boasts a class-leading overall cabin space index, with rear shoudler-room of 1,362mm in the case of three-door versions and 1,343mm for five-door and estate versions. The sensation of space is further accentuated by the generous headroom which is 866mm at the rear, while rear occupants benefit from kneeroom of 162mm, too. Indeed, New Renault Clio comfortably sits passengers who are more than 1.88m tall (95th percentile of the European population).

10 • Grand tourer quality acoustic performance New Renault Clio claims soundproofing performance from the next segment up. Its architecture has been carefully engineered to filter out engine and -generated noise, as well as road noise. Care has also been taken with the sound damping between the cabin and the engine, while wind noise has been reduced thanks notably to the use of inflatable inserts in the structure's hollow sections. • Efficient suspension performance for a comfortable, reassuring ride The New Renault Clio family delivers a carefully-honed balance between rigorous, comfortable and safe handling. The suspension has been developed to meet the expectations of the customers of the different versions (Hatchback, GT, Estate). The suspension of New Renault Clio Hatchback is identical to that of Clio III and provides a high standard of efficient, comfortable roadholding. Compared with the hatchback version, New Renault Clio Estate is equipped with a bigger-diameter rear anti-roll bar (21mm) for enhanced control of body roll. Its dampers and suspension travel have also been adapted to match the estate version's heavier weight and extra carrying capacity. • Responsive, environmentally-friendly engines The range of engines and transmissions has been carefully selected to bring out the best in New Renault Clio's dynamic performance. These powertrains are respectful of the environment, too, thanks notably to:

- a choice of dCi engines, two of which emit less than 120g of CO2/km (e.g. the dCi 85: 117g of

CO2/km) and the availability of a particulate filter for a certain number of them,

- the TCe 100, which boasts the lowest CO2 emissions of any 100hp , - a 1.2 16V engine capable of running on alternative fuels, namely an E85 bioethanol- compatible version and an LPG version (depending on market). The versions of New Renault Clio powered by the 1.2 16V 75, TCe and dCi 70/85/105 engines meet all three of the criteria necessary to qualify for the Renault eco² signature. o The petrol line-up comprises five powerplants (depending on market): the 1.2 16V 75hp (55kW), the TCe 100 (74kW), the 1.6 16V 110hp (82kW), the 1.6 16V 128hp (94kW) and the 2.0 16V 140hp (102kW). An E85 bioethanol-compatible version of the 1.2 16V 75hp is also available. Modifications have been made to enable this engine, which is based on an existing block from the range, to adapt automatically to this type of fuel. The most notable changes concern the fuel tank, fuel system, injection system and combustion chambers. o Depending on market, an LPG version of the 1.2 16V is available. LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) is clean and economical, while engines which run on this type of fuel emit

fewer pollutants than an equivalent petrol engine, and CO2 emissions are similar to those of a diesel. The quiet-running 1.2 16V LPG can run on either petrol or LPG, with the driver able to switch freely from one mode to the other at any time. The vehicle's range is

11 consequently longer, and a light on the dashboard indicates which type of fuel is being used at any given moment. o Three diesel engines are also available, all of which are widely acclaimed both for the driving pleasure they offer and for their outstanding acoustic performance. They are the dCi 70 (50kW), the dCi 85 (63kW) and the dCi 105 (78kW). The latter two can be equipped with a particulate filter. The dCi 70 and the dCi 85 are particularly fuel efficient and emit

less than 120g of CO2/km. The catalogue features a choice of two manual gearboxes: a five-speed gearbox (Type JH or JR) and a six-speed box (Type TL4) for the 1.6 16V 128, 2.0 16V 140, dCi 85 DPF and dCi 105 engines. Robotized Quickshift five-speed transmission can be ordered for the 1.2 16V 75 and dCi 85 engines (Type JA3 and Type JA5 respectively), with four-speed automatic transmission (Type DP0) also available with the 1.6 16V 110 powerplant.

• A raft of equipment from the next segment up The New Renault Clio range includes a long list of equipment from the next segment up aimed at either facilitating driving or enhancing travelling comfort. New Renault Clio is the only B-segment model that can be ordered with a hands-free card. To unlock the car, the driver only has to put a hand near one of the door handles, or else activate the boot opening mechanism. The doors automatically lock at the push of a button situated on the driver's door. A remote lighting function enables owners to locate their vehicle at a distance thanks a bespoke button on the card which activates the lights. For hands-free starting, the card doesn't need to be inserted into a slot; its mere presence inside the cabin suffices thanks to special antennae. New Renault Clio comes with the new 80W RadioSat Classic audio system which includes six loudspeakers, an MP3-compatbile CD player, the display of MP3 file names and an RCA socket situated in front of the gear lever. Owners looking for more advanced connectivity will appreciate the two new Plug & Music and Bluetooth® functions. o The Plug & Music function enables iPods® and other types of USB-compatible MP3 players, including USB keys, to be connected via a USB socket. Once connected, the occupant's portable MP3 player becomes an integral part of the in-car entertainment system and can be controlled using the steering wheel-mounted fingertip remote controls or via the radio's own fascia-mounted controls. Playlist folders and files are displayed on the vehicle's main screen. o The Bluetooth® function permits hands-free use of the telephone using the vehicle's own loudspeakers for enhanced safety. The system automatically detects the telephone when the driver starts the car, while Renault's exclusive 'hold' function puts callers on hold until the driver is in a position to answer safely. Incoming and outgoing calls automatically mute the radio and the telephone's functions are controlled via the steering wheel-mounted controls in conjunction with the dashboard display or Carminat TomTom® screen.

12 o The Bluetooth® function also incorporates audio streaming, in other words the wireless transmission via the vehicle's own loudspeakers of personal playlists stored on A2DP- compatible portable players. • Other equipment For enhanced comfort and safety, New Renault Clio is equipped with the follow equipment (either standard depending on equipment level, or optional): o cruise control with speed limiter, o additional cornering lights o rear parking proximity sensor, o a combined rain/light sensor which automatically switches on the headlamps and/or activates the windscreen wipers at the ideal wipe-speed. • Safety: a priority for Renault, and a self-evidence for New Renault Clio The New Renault Clio family benefits from Renault's extensive expertise when it comes to active and passive safety. The combination of New Renault Clio's suspension and a range of driver aids (ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution, emergency brake assist, ESC, traction control, engine torque overrun regulation) ensures an outstanding level of active safety. Meanwhile, Clio III Hatchback obtained the maximum five-point rating in the crash tests carried out by the independent body EuroNCAP at the time of its release in 2005. New Renault Clio is built on the same platform and is equipped with the third-generation Renault System for Restraint and Protection (SRP3), a pledge of uncompromising protection for all occupants.

THE CLIO STORY

• Clio, the benchmark of its class: New Renault Clio has profited from Renault's vast experience of the small car segment, as well as from the success Clio has enjoyed since its launch in 1990. Like the 4CV and the R5 before it, Clio has left an indelible mark and today stands out more than ever as a model with genuine big car attributes that has won over millions of motorists. In just under 20 years, 10 million Clios have been sold in more than 100 countries, including four million first-generation Clios, 4.5 million Clio IIs (since 1998) and more than 1.2 million Clio IIIs (since 2005). Renault Clio is to date the only model to have twice been voted Car Of The Year; initially in 1991 at the time of Clio I's launch, and a second time in 2006 when Clio III took the award. Clio was also the first car of its class to obtain a four-star EuroNCAP crash test rating (in 2000), and was the first to secure the maximum EuroNCAP score of five stars in 2005.

13 Clio III benefits from outstanding reliability, too, a claim confirmed both by independent and in- house studies. For example, the latest report (2008) released by ADAC, Germany's leading authority in this domain, puts Clio III at an 'excellent' standard of quality after one, two and three years of use. The model's reliability is also illustrated by the findings of the CSI survey carried out in France by JD POWER which measures the customer satisfaction of owners who have had their vehicle for an average 2½ years. For the first time, this survey covered both the car and associated services, and more than 80 per cent of Clio III owners reported that they were fully satisfied. • A broad range in response to customer demand The Renault Clio family (Clio Campus, three- and five-door Clio III Hatchback, Estate and Renault Sport) was the European market's third most successful seller in 2008 with a 7.24 per cent share of the small car market (almost 390,000 cars), an increase of 0.4 points over 2007. Meanwhile, Clio III continues to top its segment in France (hatchback + estate) with a market share of 17.3 per cent. The Clio III range was extended with the addition of an estate version – Renault Clio Estate – in January 2008. Renault Clio Estate has lost no time in winning over young families, with sales in 2008 (52,960 cars) accounting for 17 per cent of all Clio sales in Europe, and even 37 per cent of total Clio sales in Germany. Renault Clio lives up more than ever to its reputation as the small car with big car attributes, delivering a C-segment performance/equipment package for the price of a hatchback from the next segment down. It notably targets young one-car families looking for a compact family hatchback that offers the best value for money in terms of performance and equipment. It also stands out as an excellent solution for couples who no longer have children living at home and who want to switch to a compact family hatchback which offers a performance and equipment package similar to that of their former vehicle (MPV or large saloon). Like its predecessor, New Renault Clio is manufactured at Flins (France), Valladolid (Spain) and Bursa (Turkey). The GT version is manufactured at Flins, and Clio Renault Sport at Dieppe (France).

15 NEW CLIO RENAULT SPORT: TWO GUISES FOR RENAULT'S PERFORMANCE HATCHBACK

For several years, the Renault Sport-badged version of the brand's best-selling hatchback has been unanimously acclaimed by enthusiasts as one of the best performance hatches of its segment, and definitely one of the most fun to drive. Building on this success, Renault has chosen the 2009 Geneva Motor Show to reveal New Clio Renault Sport.

This pedigree Renault Sport model comes in a choice of two versions in order to meet the demands of two distinct types of customer: o the 'Luxe' version (name may differ depending on market) is equipped with the Sport chassis and targets customers looking for a comfortable, well-equipped sporting hatchback; o the 'Cup' version is for enthusiasts looking for a cocktail of performance and a sporty ride. New Clio Renault Sport Cup is 36kg lighter than the Luxe version and boasts the best weight-to- power ratio of its class (6kg/hp). It is equipped with the Cup chassis.

New Clio Renault Sport boasts the same ingredients that have forged the success of its predecessors, such as: o Formula 1-derived aerodynamics, including front-wing air-extractors, a rear diffuser and a front splitter, all of which are unique to the performance hatchback class, o independent steering axis front suspension for advanced handling precision and traction performance in all conditions, unique to the B segment, o durable braking performance, thanks notably to the fitment of Brembo front callipers, o a new specification of the 2.0 16V engine: Renault Sport-level response and power (147.5kW/203hp) combined with moderate fuel consumption.

New Clio Renault Sport is manufactured at the Alpine factory in Dieppe, France.

It is due to be launched in the spring of 2009 (depending on market).

16 NEW CLIO RENAULT SPORT: TWO GUISES IN RESPONSE TO DIFFERING CUSTOMER DEMAND

Since 2000, the successive variants of Clio Renault Sport have led to it becoming the best-selling performance hatchback of its class, with worldwide sales totalling more than 70,000 cars. The strengths of Clio III Renault Sport's chassis, brakes and steering combined with the precision of its gearbox have resulted in the model being widely praised as the most efficient of its class, by the media and exacting owners alike. To provide a match that is more closely tailored still to the demands and needs of its customers, Clio Renault Sport today comes in two distinct guises, with the introduction of Luxe (name may differ according to market) and Cup versions. The Luxe version is aimed at motorists looking for a comfortable, well-equipped, status-enhancing car which places the accent on driving pleasure. New Clio Renault Sport Luxe features the 'Sport' chassis which, like the car's acoustic performance, has been upgraded with a view to delivering an even higher standard of comfort. A range of appointments make this new sporting model from the Renault Sport stable truly unique, including a broad selection of body colours, interior trims, upholsteries (including leather) and aluminium alloy wheels. A long list of equipment carried over from New Renault Clio is available, too, including the Carminat TomTom® navigation system, a hands-free card and cruise control with speed limiter. The Cup version stands out through its efficiency and performance and will notably appeal to connoisseurs who are passionate about their driving. Equipped with the 'Cup' chassis, it is 36kg lighter than New Clio Renault Sport Luxe ('Sport' chassis). Indeed, the design of certain components (transmission, seat frames, wheels) and the dropping of certain items of equipment enables the Cup version to boast the best weight-to-power ratio of its class (6kg/hp).

• Exterior styling: a powerful stance New Renault Clio's original lines have been revised with the accent on more athletic, telltale curves. The more aggressive front end incorporates an F1-type aerodynamic splitter and a generously-sized, low-positioned air intake, the mission of which is to cool the naturally-aspirated 2.0 16V engine (147.5kW/203hp). The sills, extractors and wider front and rear wings all serve to highlight the sporty calling of New Clio Renault Sport which features Renault Sport's new styling identity cues with the Renault Sport Design Pack's two-tone colour scheme based on a choice of Gloss Black or Cold Metal Grey for the front bumper mouldings, exterior mirror housings and diffuser. At the rear, the twin exhaust tailpipes have been incorporated into the diffuser. New Clio Renault Sport sits squarely on the road thanks to its wide tyres (215/45) mounted on 17-inch aluminium alloy rims, through which it is possible to see the Brembo brake callipers and big brakes that deliver powerful, durable stopping power. Renault Sport badging is visible on the tailgate, on the side protective mouldings' satin-finish chrome inserts, as well as on the intake manifold. New Clio Renault Sport marks the introduction of the brand new exclusive Alien Green metallic paint finish.

17 • Aerodynamics derived from Formula 1 technology New Clio Renault Sport's aerodynamic features include a front splitter, front-wing air-extractors and a rear diffuser, a unique feature in this segment. Compared with the new version's predecessor, the CdA has been cut by 0.02 to 0.75. The extractors visible on the front wings contribute to the car's aerodynamic performance by neutralizing the turbulence produced by the wider wings and play a part in improving the model's CdA. They also facilitate the extraction of hot air from underneath the bonnet, while the vents are angled to channel airflow along the sides of the car for enhanced performance. The most significant single technological innovation is the air diffuser. This aerodynamic feature carried over from F1 is only fitted as standard equipment to range-topping sporting cars. The diffuser's role is to prevent the rear of the car from lifting and guarantee stability at high speed by channelling airflow in such a way that it increases ground effect by producing a low pressure zone beneath the car.

• Sporty interior appointments The model's sporting pedigree is confirmed by details such as the aluminium pedal covers and footrest, as well as by the perforated leather steering wheel with visible stitching and yellow centre- point marker. The yellow rev-counter includes an audible and visible Formula 1-style gearshift indicator to help optimize gear changes. Thanks to a range of three trims (Argenté Grey, Yellow, Dark Charcoal), customers can select the colour of the seatbelts, dashboard trimming and/or upholstery. The specific Renault Sport seats are exceptionally comfortable and ensure a high level of body-hugging lateral support. Bucket seats designed and developed in association with Recaro are also available for New Clio Renault Sport. They are equipped with lateral airbags, plus a rigid, glass-fibre/polyamide-injected shell which provides the sort of all-enveloping experience normally associated with motor sport. The slots for the harness belts and the integrated headrest add a further sporty note, while at the same time serving to hold occupants firmly in place. As with all the models developed by Renault Sport Technologies, Renault Sport badging is visible inside the cabin on the rev-counter background, sills and front seats.

18 • High performance suspension Compared with New Renault Clio, New Clio Renault Sport's grip and cornering potential have been upgraded, with the front and rear tracks widened by 48mm and 50mm respectively. The wheelbase has been extended by 10mm to 2,585mm for greater stability, while the front suspension's independent steering axis layout is unique to the B segment. To minimize weight, this technology employs aluminium components and guarantees precise handling and outstanding traction whatever the conditions. Driving pleasure is further enhanced by the responsive front end which is insensitive to torque steer, both through tight corners and along straights. Based on that of New Renault Clio, the rear suspension features a reinforced programmed deflection torsion beam which complements the efficiency of the front end's independent steering axis system to ensure precise, immediate turn-in response.

• The 'Sport' chassis: efficiency and comfort (standard on New Clio Renault Sport Luxe) The development of the Sport chassis was guided by a bid to strike the ideal balance between performance and comfort. The stub axles have been lengthened to increase the rear track, and New Clio Renault Sport marks an improvement in comfort over its predecessor thanks to the switch to double-effect damper technology. The energy which needs to be dissipated is partly absorbed by an additional level of valving. The performance of these new dampers is particularly appreciable on longer journeys and motorway drives. Meanwhile, body movement is kept in check thanks to the bigger diameter of the front anti-roll bar which has been raised from 20mm to 21 mm. Compared with New Renault Clio, the stiffness of the rear suspension has been uprated by 25 per cent thanks to the fitment of a 30mm-diameter anti-roll bar. Specifically-developed Continental Sport Contact 3 tyres (215/45 R17) ensure swifter, more precise steering response, while their rolling resistance is five per cent lower compared with Clio III Renault Sport's tyres. The aluminium alloy wheels are each 1kg lighter and the gain in terms of inertia further contributes to the enhanced steering response and crisp acceleration.

• The 'Cup' chassis: glued to the road (standard on New Clio Renault Sport Cup) New Clio Renault Sport is alternatively available with the Cup chassis which has been engineered to deliver an exacting ride and uncompromising driving pleasure. The ride height is 7mm lower than that of the Sport chassis and the resulting lower centre of gravity ensures improved cornering performance because of reduced weight transfer. Its ability to corner flat is further enhanced by uprated damper calibration compared with the Sport chassis (plus 27 per cent at the front, plus 30 per cent at the rear). Torsional rigidity has also been increased by 10 per cent, enabling the independent steering axis front suspension to reveal its full potential. Last but not least, the Cup chassis comes with closer ratio steering (7.5 per cent quicker compared with the Sport chassis) which, combined with specific development, favours feedback to the driver in conditions of varying grip.

19

• A sporty, normally-aspirated engine with a specific power output of more than 100hp/litre The Luxe and Cup versions of New Clio Renault Sport are powered by the same normally-aspirated 2.0 16V engine (F4R RS). With a specific power output of more than 100hp/litre, this powerplant delivers an extremely high standard of performance for the segment. In addition to the gains achieved at low revs, peak power has been increased by 2.5kW to 147.5kW (203hp) at 7,100rpm. Meanwhile, the torque boasted by New Clio Renault Sport has been upped 20 per cent thanks to a new cylinder head, continuously variable intake valve timing and fine-tuning of the engine mapping. The first, second and third gear ratios have all been shortened for punchier acceleration and for motoring in built-up areas. This engine drives through a manual six-speed gearbox (TL4) and claims maximum torque of 215Nm at 5,400rpm (compared with 5,500rpm for Clio III Renault Sport). New Clio Renault Sport accelerates from standstill to 100kph in just 6.9 seconds and covers the 1,000m standing start in 27.3s. The top speed of 225kph is 10kph higher compared with that of the former version. An eloquent illustration of the high standard of work that has gone into this powertrain is the fact that its fuel consumption has been reduced by 0.7 litres/100km (equivalent to 14g of CO2/km) compared with Clio III Renault Sport which was launched in June 2006. Combined cycle fuel consumption stands at a reasonable 8.2 litres/100km, equivalent to 195g of CO2/km.

• Genes shared with the other members of the New Renault Clio family A long list of safety and travelling comfort equipment has been carried over from New Renault Clio to New Clio Renault Sport, including: - Carminat TomTom®, the first integrated satnav system for less than €500, - hands-free card, - 80W RadioSat Classic audio system with six loudspeakers, plus two functions for customers looking for additional connectivity: Plug & Music (to connect an MP3 player or an iPod®) and Bluetooth® telephony. - sunroof, - cruise control with speed limiter, - automatic climate control, - combined rain/light sensor. In day-to-day use, occupants will particularly appreciate the spacious cabin and generous boot space, two hallmarks of New Renault Clio. New Clio Renault Sport is built on the same platform and is equipped with the third-generation Renault System for Restraint and Protection (SRP3). Like Clio III, which obtained a five-star EuroNCAP crash test rating in 2005, it is engineered to provide uncompromising protection for all occupants.

21 RENAULT REVEALS FOUR NEW MODELS OF THE NEW MÉGANE FAMILY IN GENEVA

Renault has chosen Geneva to reveal four new models based on the New Mégane platform, namely Grand Scénic, Scénic, Mégane Estate and Mégane Renault Sport.

New Renault Grand Scénic, which will be available in five- and seven-seat form, will become the third member of the New Mégane family in the wake of the Hatchback and Coupé versions when it is released in Western Europe this April. Its introduction will be followed by the launches of New Renault Scénic and New Renault Mégane Estate in June, before New Mégane Renault Sport appears on the market in the autumn.

In less than a year, Renault will have renewed practically its entire compact car segment line- up. It will consequently boast the European market's youngest range, as well as the most extensive MPV line-up in Europe with no fewer than six models: Renault Modus, Grand Modus, Renault Scénic, Grand Scénic, Renault Espace and Grand Espace.

New Renault Scénic and New Renault Grand Scénic are manufactured at Douai, France. New Renault Mégane Estate and New Mégane Renault Sport are made at Palencia, Spain, on the same lines as those which produce New Mégane Coupé and Hatchback.

FOUR SUCCESSFUL MODELS

As the incontestable leader in Europe for more than 10 years, Renault Scénic stands out as the pioneer of the compact MPV market. It won the Car of the Year award in 1997 and, with sales in excess of 3.2 million units in Europe since its launch in 1996, has won over families across Europe looking for smart solutions, space and comfort. In 2004, Renault became the first carmaker to propose two body types in this segment: Scénic and Grand Scénic. In 2008, five years after the release of the second generation Scénic, and despite increasing competition with the availability of 24 different models, Renault continues to enjoy a 14 per cent share of the compact MPV segment in Europe. With total sales amounting to almost 500,000 units since 1999, Renault Mégane Estate accounts for more than 15 per cent of all Mégane sales. Since its launch in 2004, more than 21,000 Mégane Renault Sports have been sold. The release of an all-new dCi version based on the Cup chassis and the production of Mégane F1 Team R26 saw Mégane Renault Sport sales reach almost 5,500 cars in 2007, an increase of more than 30 per cent over the previous year.

22

The New Mégane programme (Hatchback, Coupé, Estate, Grand Scénic, Scénic and Renault Sport) has focused on three design-related priorities: ensuring even more assertive personalities for each member of the family, the provision of balanced equipment/performance packages and a class- leading ranking concerning such fundamentals requirements as quality, durability, safety, the environment and fuel consumption.

TWO EUROPEAN PRODUCTION SITES: Douai (France) and Palencia (Spain)

Renault has divided the production of the six New Mégane models between two plants: Douai and Palencia. This fresh approach of using bespoke production sites has led to reduced production costs for each model by benefiting fully from existing investments.

Production-related investment has been halved compared with Mégane II and has been relatively evenly split between the two sites, with €250 million going to Douai and €190 million being spent at Palencia, essentially with a view to upgrading production quality at every stage of the manufacturing process.

For the launch of New Grand Scénic and Scénic, the body shop at Douai saw the introduction of 250 additional robots and laser video inspection of the bodyshell structure with a view to improving perceived quality and durability. Significant effort has also gone into enhancing assembly quality. Eight strike zones have been introduced alongside the assembly lines to minimize the risk of error and consequently ensure first class quality from start-up. Operations such as component selection, which were previously performed on the production lines, have been transferred to other sectors, including so-called picking zones. Certain supplier activities have been brought back into the factory to make full use of existing capacity: a new door panel station on the assembly line and new parts preparation stations in the body shop. Factory staff have been mobilized to achieve ambitious quality objectives – comparable to those established for New Laguna – and operators quickly assimilated the best practices first introduced at Palencia for the production of New Mégane Hatchback and Coupé. Some 28,000 hours of training were dispensed at Douai in the course of 2008, and the operators were familiar with their workstation even before the production of the first New Renault Scénic.

23 NEW RENAULT MÉGANE ESTATE: HIGHLY PRACTICAL AND A PLEASURE TO DRIVE

The New Mégane family has been extended to include a new model which features its own distinct personality: New Renault Mégane Estate. New Renault Mégane Estate boasts vast carrying capacity and could hardly be more driver- friendly, while its dynamic, elegant lines give it undeniable sporting appeal. The newcomer boasts a raft of high-tech equipment, too, including Carminat TomTom®, a new, fully- integrated satnav system for a pioneering price of less than €500. Compared with New Renault Mégane Hatchback, the extended wheelbase and rear overhang have freed up additional cabin space for occupants, as well as extra carrying capacity. New Renault Mégane Estate comes with a wide choice of engines which combine performance and respect for the environment, including the new TCe 130 petrol unit.

o Dynamic styling, o Generous dimensions (difference compared with Hatchback shown in brackets): length: 4,558mm (+263mm); wheelbase: 2,702mm (+62mm); boot volume: 524dm3 (+119dm3), o A new, fully-integrated navigation system costing less than €500: Carminat TomTom®, which joins the catalogue alongside the range-topping Carminat Bluetooth® DVD. o Available from launch, the new TCe 130 powerplant provides further evidence of Renault's expertise when it comes to downsizing: it boasts the torque of a 2-litre engine and the power of a 1.8, yet its fuel consumption is less than that of a 1.6.

o Three diesel engines that can claim CO2 emissions of less than or equal to 120g/km (dCi 85, dCi 90 FAP and dCi 105). o The same safety credentials, quality and roadholding ability as New Renault Mégane Hatchback (new horned subframe, new electric power steering).

24 DYNAMIC STYLING

In addition to its dynamic looks, New Renault Mégane Estate has a distinctive character and lives up to the pledge made at the time of the hatchback version's release that every member of the New Renault Mégane family would have its own, clear-cut personality. New Renault Mégane Estate features identical front-end styling to that of the hatchback version, including the characteristic lines that swoop down from the windscreen pillars to converge on the logo at the centre of the bonnet. Seen from the side, however, New Renault Mégane Estate is very different thanks to its extended wheelbase compared with the hatchback version (+62mm). The newcomer's total length (4,558mm) is also 263mm longer than that of New Renault Mégane Hatchback, and its width stands at 1,808mm. Following this increase in wheelbase and rear overhang, special care has been taken to maintain balanced, dynamic proportions: the slope of the roofline, the steeply-raked rear screen and the elongated, rearward-sweeping side windows give New Renault Mégane Estate an elegant, racy profile, and these fluid lines are set off by the longitudinal roof bars. The broad shoulders exude sporting appeal and an impression of robustness reinforced by the car's generous forms and low positioning of the side protective mouldings. New Mégane Estate's unique character is further expressed by features such as its rear light clusters and the form of the rear screen, the bottom edge of which picks out the Renault logo. Special attention has been paid to perceived quality thanks to a careful choice of forms and materials. In the cabin, the accent has been on the durability and quality of the materials – which have been selected to be pleasant to the touch – and on exemplary fit-and-finish. Thanks to its generous dimensions and elegant, dynamic styling, New Renault Mégane Estate exudes sporting appeal without detracting in any way from its user-friendliness or carrying capacity.

PRATICAL AND TECHNOLOGICALLY ADVANCED

• New Renault Mégane Estate features a roomy, modular interior, plus generous carrying capacity which can be adapted to suit a broad variety of uses. New Renault Mégane Estate's boot volume of 524dm3 (up to parcel shelf) ranks it among the best in its segment. Total carrying capacity can be extended up to 1,595dm3 with the rear benchseat fully folded, while access to the boot is facilitated by its low sill height: 561mm, the lowest of its segment. In addition to its generous proportions, New Renault Mégane Estate's boot is practical, too, and gives owners the ability to divide it into two separate zones: one large compartment, and a smaller compartment at the rear which enables the boot's layout to be adapted to the needs of the moment.

25 For example, a small item can easily be slipped into the smaller compartment, which has the double advantage of preventing it from sliding about and ensuring that it is readily accessible. Two additional stowage bins are available under the floor of the rearmost compartment. Tipping the front passenger seat and rear benchseat forward enables items of up to 2,550mm in length to be carried. To facilitate the loading of lengthy objects, the foremost part of the boot floor is raised when the rear benchseat is folded to produce a single, uninterrupted surface. This clever feature frees up space for the baggage cover in a compartment underneath the boot floor behind the rear seats. Rear passengers also profit from the extended wheelbase since they benefit from comfortable kneeroom of 218mm. The driver, meanwhile, will appreciate the comfortable, practical driving environment. Front elbow room figures among the segment's best at 1,476mm, and the height-adjustable driver's seat travels through a segment-topping 70mm.

• The New Renault Mégane Estate catalogue features a choice of two GPS navigation systems and a long list of high-tech equipment. New Renault Mégane Estate is available with Carminat TomTom®, the first fully-integrated navigation system for a price of less than €500. Particularly easy to use, and ready to run as soon as the car starts, it delivers all the functions expected of a top navigation system, including: precise, detailed maps, a large 5.8-inch screen, birdview display and reliable guidance complete with traffic information, alternative routes, speed restrictions, speed camera location alerts (depending on country), a plethora of points of interest and a wide range of customizable parameters. The SD Card makes it easy for owners to update their Carminat TomTom® navigation to be sure of having the very latest navigation data and customization options. New Renault Mégane Estate is also available with the upper-range Carminat Bluetooth® DVD navigation system.

26 • Like New Renault Mégane Hatchback and New Renault Mégane Coupé, the New Renault Mégane Estate catalogue features a raft of equipment, most of which is more commonly associated with the next segment up: - hands-free card with automatic central locking when the driver walks away from the car, - automatic parking brake, - dual-zone automatic climate control with three temperature adjustment modes (Soft-Auto-Fast), - directional bi-Xenon headlamps, - innovative combined digital/analogue instrument display, - new colour-coded interface for the cruise control with speed limiter, - customization of the activation and adjustment of certain functions (daytime running lights, volume of audible parking proximity sensor warning), - 3D Sound by Arkamys® audio system, - connectivity: standard RCA socket and optional “Plug & Music” system (USB and jack connections).

PRECISE, REASSURING ROADHOLDING

• All the handling-related enhancements seen on New Renault Mégane Hatchback have been carried over to New Renault Mégane Estate Technically, New Renault Mégane Estate shares the same genes as the rest of the New Mégane family, including MacPherson-type front suspension combined with a horned subframe, plus a closed- section torsion beam at the rear, while New Renault Mégane Estate's extended wheelbase also contributes to its remarkable stability. The electric power steering has been entirely revised for enhanced response and driving comfort thanks to more reliable feedback of information from the road. Together, these improvements ensure a precise, reassuring ride and best-level cornering stability.

• New Renault Mégane Estate is available with a wide choice of powerplants, including three diesel engines that boast CO2 emissions of less than or equal to 120g/km. The petrol engine line-up comprises six powertrains, including the new TCe 130 engine which is available from launch. Developed within the framework of the Renault-Nissan Alliance, the TCe 130 showcases the expertise that the brand has acquired in the field known as downsizing. This 1.4-litre unit boasts the torque of a 2-litre engine and the power of a 1.8, yet its CO2 emissions are less than those of a 1.6. The TCe 130 also figures at the top-end of its class in terms of running and

27 maintenance costs. Its reliable, durable timing chain favours acoustic comfort, while oil change intervals are every 30,000km (or every two years). New Renault Mégane Estate can also be ordered with 100hp and 110hp 1.6 litre engines that drive through manual five- or six-speed gearboxes respectively. In certain markets, this engine is available in a bioethanol-compatible version. The 2.0 140hp engine is available with gearshift-free CVT (continuously variable transmission) for even greater driving comfort. The petrol engine line-up is rounded off by the TCe 180, an evolution of the 2.0 block which combines outstanding response with outstanding flexibility at low revs. The extensive range of diesel engines available for New Renault Mégane Estate illustrates the ongoing work Renault continues to put in to ensure that its customers profit from the market's best trade-off between performance and fuel consumption, as well as lower running and maintenance costs and longer servicing intervals. The 1.5 litre dCi engine comes in a choice of four power outputs, with or without a particulate filter (dCi 85, dCi 90 DPF, dCi 105 and dCi 110 DPF). In addition to their sprightly performance, all these engines stand out through their low CO2 emissions (118g/km for the dCi 85 and dCi 90 DPF, 120g/km for the dCi 105). The dCi 130 engine, which is also available with or without a particulate filter, is the only engine of its class to claim CO2 emissions of less than 140g/km, which consequently qualifies it for tax incentives in certain countries. The dCi 90 DPF, dCi 105, dCi 110 DPF, dCi 130 and dCi 130 DPF engines all figure among the best in their class in terms of running and maintenance costs, with oil changes recommended every 30,000km (or two years) and timing belt changes every 160,000km. The particulate filters now benefit from a lifetime warranty. The diesel engine range is topped by the 2.0 dCi which is available in a choice of power outputs, namely 160hp (mated to a manual six-speed gearbox) or a 150hp version with six-speed automatic transmission that will become available in the course of the second half of 2009).

28 NEW RENAULT MEGANE ESTATE PROFITS FULLY FROM RENAULT'S QUALITY AND SAFETY EXPERTISE

• Like all the members of the new Mégane family, New Renault Mégane Estate has been designed to deliver impeccable passive and active safety. A long list of equipment is available to help drivers anticipate risk situations: - seatbelt reminder warning lights for all five seats, - tyre pressure monitoring system, - bi-Xenon headlamps with cornering lights, - automatic headlamp activation, - automatic windscreen wiper activation, - cruise control with speed limiter. New Mégane Estate is equipped with the full range of driver aids: ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution, emergency brake assist and ESC with understeer control.

• New Renault Mégane Estate also comes with the same passive safety features and systems that helped New Renault Mégane Hatchback score the maximum possible score of 37 points (from 37) in the EuroNCAP crash tests, namely a programmed deformation structure combined with the third-generation Renault System for Restraint and Protection (SRP3) which affords best-level protection in accidents for all occupants. New Mégane Estate also comes with the innovative twin side-impact sensors first seen on New Laguna. This system halves the time required to trigger the dual-chamber thorax/groin airbags for even greater occupant protection.

• New Mégane Estate benefits fully from the considerable progress achieved by Renault in terms of quality and durability. For example: as seen on New Laguna, the hands-free card – complete with automatic central locking as the driver walks away from the car – has been redesigned to make it even more robust. The battery is now located in a sealed compartment to enable it to stand up to the increasingly demanding validation tests (e.g. washing machine test).

29 NEW RENAULT SCÉNIC AND GRAND SCÉNIC: DYNAMIC MPVs, WITH THE ACCENT ON TRAVELLING COMFORT

Following the launches of New Mégane Hatchback and New Mégane Coupé, Renault will further extend the Mégane line-up this spring with the introduction of New Grand Scénic, followed by the release of New Scénic.

Building on the success of Scénic I and Scénic II, and profiting from its unrivalled expertise when it comes to user-friendly interiors, cabin space and travelling comfort, Renault is poised to renew the compact MPV segment's standard-setting model with the launch of New Grand Scénic (five and seven seats) and New Scénic (five seats).

New Renault Scénic and New Renault Grand Scénic both feature dynamic, distinctive styling, while their roomy interiors, comfort-related appointments, stowage solutions and high-tech equipment are destined to set new standards in their category.

o The instrument panel features a customizable, easy to read TFT (Thin Film Transistor) colour screen (exclusive at this level), o Two distinct new silhouettes, and three variants: five-seat Renault Scénic and five- and seven-seat Renault Grand Scénic, o Remarkable cabin space with class-topping second-row kneeroom (235mm in the case of Scénic, and 275mm for Grand Scénic), o More room for third-row occupants than in any other compact seven-seat MPV (headroom: 842mm, kneeroom: 102mm), o Segment-best stowage capacity, with up to 92 litres (seven-seat Grand Scénic) throughout the cabin, including four underfloor compartments, up to four under-seat drawers, six map pockets, an 11-litre glovebox and nine litres of stowage in the sliding centre console, o Boot capacity increased by 10 per cent, o Clever stowage solutions, including a special compartment for the baggage cover in the boot of seven-seat Renault Grand Scénic, handy hooks for the second and third row seats and a 12V power supply for every row of seats, o Intuitive controls which fall easily to hand, with a centre console that houses the controls for the principal driver aids (navigation system, electronic parking brake, cruise control/speed limiter switch, Plug & Music multimedia sockets),

30 o Unprecedented in the segment: a reversing camera for easier parking, o New integrated Carminat TomTom® navigation system, developed in association with TomTom, for less than €500, o Upper-range 3D Sound by Arkamys® audio system with three-dimensional sound spatialization, o Suspension identical to that of New Mégane, including a horned front subframe and closed- section rear torsion beam for exemplary body roll control and steering precision, o New electric power steering for greater precision and enhanced driving pleasure, o A range of six petrol engines, including the new TCe130, and seven diesel engines, three of

which emit less than 140g of CO2/km, o Genes shared with the other members of the New Mégane family: robustness and perceived quality, including a new laser brazing technique for welding the roof to the body sides, o The same standard of exemplary safety as that claimed by New Mégane which achieved the best EuroNCAP crash test rating ever achieved, o Seven versions comply with the three criteria required to qualify for the Renault eco² range of ecological, economically affordable vehicles.

TWO NEW DISTINCT PROFILES WITH SIMILARLY FLUID LINES

Renault customers benefit from a choice of two MPVs which each have their own distinctive personalities. New Scénic and New Grand Scénic both feature taut, fluid lines that sweep across the generously-proportioned body panels to exude a sense of dynamism and robustness. Yet while the design of both versions shares an undeniable family likeness with the New Mégane line-up's other models, their profiles are quite different. Like Mégane Coupé, New Scénic features a central grille flanked by satin-effect chrome finish air intakes. This sporty feel is reinforced by the headlamps which express the model's assertive personality. The combination of squat proportions and a length of 4.34 metres points to New Scénic's dynamism and manoeuvrability. New Grand Scénic (length: 4.56 metres) is available in five- and seven-seat form. Its proportions and extensive glazed area suggest similarly generous cabin space and the promise of a well-appointed interior. Its boomerang-shaped rear lights produce a lighting signature unique to New Grand Scénic and an industry first for a production model. The lines of these clusters extend forward across the vehicle's flanks via the waistline to convey an unmistakable sense of dynamism when the car is seen from the side. This impression is further emphasized by the sloping roofline and raked rear screen.

31 In addition to being a hallmark of the different models that make up the New Mégane family, these robust, dynamic lines are an eloquent sign of the range's outstanding roadholding ability.

CAREFUL ATTENTION TO TRAVELLING COMFORT

• CABIN SPACE: New Renault Scénic and New Renault Grand Scénic have been thought through carefully to ensure the highest possible standard of travelling comfort for all occupants. The driver and front passenger benefit from a wide field of vision thanks to wider spacing of the windscreen pillars which ensures enhanced visibility at roundabouts and junctions. The lateral field of vision has been extended by more than eight per cent and the vertical field of vision has been improved by more than 15 per cent. The longer wheelbase has led to improved comfort for second row occupants who will appreciate the best-in-class kneeroom of 235mm and 275mm provided by Scénic and Grand Scénic respectively. Occupants of the third row seats benefit from headroom of 842mm and kneeroom of 102mm. Indeed, Grand Scénic stands out as the roomiest compact seven-seat MPV on the market.

• OCCUPANT FRIENDLY: The wave-like forms of the dashboard, which are reminiscent of those of New Mégane, are fluid and uncluttered. The controls are intuitive and fall readily to hand, and the centre console houses the main controls (electric parking brake assist, cruise control with speed limiter), multimedia connections (MP3, USB key, iPod©) and a 12V power supply. The adjustable driver's seat features a segment-leading range of 70mm for the height of the seat cushion, while lumbar-adjustment is now also available for entry level versions. The combination of the different adjustment options and the more vertical position of the steeringwheel enables the drivers to find a combination which is more akin to that of a saloon car, without detracting from the high-up driving position that is particularly appreciated by MPV owners.

• STOWAGE: New Renault Scénic and New Renault Grand Scénic provide up to 92 litres of stowage space (a market best), with a range of clever, practical solutions for all occupants: - four underfloor compartments, two drawers underneath the front seats, plus two more drawers underneath the outer rear seats (except seven-seat Grand Scénic), - an illuminated, chilled 11-litre glovebox, - non-lidded stowage in the centre console for small items such as mobile phones, - the sliding centre console and sliding central armrest provide nine litres of stowage divided into two parts: fragile items can be stored away underneath the armrest, while the principal bin is

32 ideal for holding larger objects, such as a 1.5-litre bottle, - six map pockets on the front seatbacks (two small pockets for stashing items such as portable video players and soft toys, and larger map pockets located beneath the aviation-style tables), - three separate 12V power supplies (one on the centre console at the front, one for second row occupants and a third in the boot) to run and charge portable electronic items such as game consoles, MP3 players and video players, or for an electric fridgebox (available as an accessory), - two lidded stowage spaces underneath the third-row armrests.

The boot of New Scénic is particularly practical, thanks not only its appreciable capacity of 522dm3 (up to parcel shelf) but also because of the vehicle's low rear sill height and wide tailgate access. The boot capacity of five-seat Grand Scénic is 752dm3, while that of seven-seat Grand Scénic is 702dm3 (in its five-seat layout), an increase of 10 per cent over Scénic II. When carrying bulky loads, the baggage cover can be swiftly stored away in a bespoke compartment underneath the boot mat.

• MODULAR LAYOUT: New Renault Scénic and New Renault Grand Scénic both boast extremely modular interiors thanks to the forward-folding front passenger seat and second-row seatbacks. Carrying capacity can be further extended by removing the second row seats altogether. The boot space of seven-seat Grand Scénic can be increased thanks to the design of the third row seats which fold away into the floor. With the second row seats removed and the third row seats fully folded, the carrying capacity of seven-seat Grand Scénic exceeds two cubic metres. To ease access for third row passengers, a handle located on the sides of the outer second row seats instantly folds the seatback. At the same time, a small hoist helps tip the seat forward to provide access to the rear seats with just one, quick, simple movement.

• COMFORT: New Renault Scénic and New Renault Grand Scénic are available with dual-zone automatic climate control with the same Soft-Auto-Fast mode functions as those first seen on New Laguna and carried over since to the New Mégane range. The grand comfort headrests are new for the segment and ensure outstanding support, comfort and safety thanks to their enveloping form, as well as to the range of positions to which they can be adjusted.

33 TECHNOLOGIES THAT FACILITATE DAY-TO-DAY MOTORING

New Renault Scénic and New Renault Grand Scénic benefit from numerous technological features designed to facilitate driving and enhance travelling comfort.

• New Renault Scénic and New Renault Grand Scénic are the first vehicles at this level to employ a TFT (Thin Film Transistor) screen which provides a customizable, clear, high-resolution display of data such as vehicle speed, cruise control/speed limiter settings (on/off, selected speed), door-open alert and tyre pressures, as well as the image seen by the reversing camera (in addition to audible warning). It takes drivers no time at all to adapt this interface to their individual taste thanks to the set-up menu which can be accessed thanks to a button located between the steering wheel and the display. This menu is derived from that of New Laguna and permits the driver to activate or modify the parameters of certain functions, such as the volume of the audible parking proximity sensor warning, the language employed and the automatic headlamp activation. Meanwhile, the contrast of the entry level monochrome LCD display (white on black background) is 30 times superior to that of preceding technology, while screen reflections and transparency are automatically corrected.

• A choice of two navigation systems: - The brand new integrated Carminat TomTom® system is the fruit of an partnership with TomTom and costs less than €500. Particularly easy to use, and ready to run as soon as the car starts, it provides all the functions expected of a top satnav system, including precise, detailed maps on a large 5.8-inch screen, birdview display and reliable navigation complete with traffic information, alternative routes, speed restrictions, speed camera location alerts (depending on country), a plethora of points of interest and a wide range of customizable parameters. RESPONSIVE, EFFICIENT, DYNAMIC HANDLING

• Reassuring, predictable handling New Renault Scénic and New Renault Grand Scénic ensure precise, agile cornering performance. Their chassis benefits from the same advances as those seen on New Mégane Hatchback and New Mégane Coupé, and consequently delivers the same rigorous handling, without detracting from the high standard of comfort pioneered by their respective predecessors: o MacPherson-type front suspension linked to a horned subframe which minimizes lateral movement of the subframe to ensure perfect steering precision. o the rear suspension employs a programmed deflection closed-section torsion beam for enhanced stiffness and less weight. With this set-up, the specific roll angle (i.e. a vehicle's angle of inclination when cornering, and consequently a pointer to its ability to corner 'flat') of New Scénic and New Grand Scénic is 0.40 degrees, the best of their segment. The average for this class of vehicle is 0.43 degrees.

• A new electric power steering system New Renault Scénic's electric power steering has been entirely revised and the result is greater steering precision plus enhanced driving comfort. Optimization of the steering's performance and components, plus modifications to its calibration have led to improved synchronisation of its response to instructions from the driver via the steeringwheel. The feedback of information from the road is more accurate, while the combination of the stiffer front suspension and the closer ratio steering has also contributed to making the system more responsive.

The more precise steering and reduced body roll through corners ensures a level of driving pleasure and reassuring handling that puts the performance of New Renault Scénic and New Renault Grand Scénic on a par with that of a saloon car.

44 RENAULT AND THE ENVIRONMENT: TARGETING ZERO EMISSIONS

Renault's longstanding quest to curb CO2 emissions was again rewarded with a top-three ranking in the list of Europe's most efficient carmakers at the end of 2008. Sixty per cent of the vehicles sold by the group (Renault and Dacia) in Europe in 2008 emitted less than 140g of CO2/km (compared with 48 per cent in 2007). Twenty per cent of the vehicles sold by the group (Renault and Dacia) in Europe in 2008 emitted less than 120g of CO2/km

Meanwhile, Renault is actively pursuing its breakaway strategy when it comes to reducing CO2 emissions with the development of electric vehicles.

Renault's stand at the Geneva Motor Show exhibits a range of powertrains developed to meet the shift in the demand of its customers. Today, thanks to the approach known as downsizing, it is possible for pleasure and performance to go hand in hand with economical, ecological motoring. Renault's know how in the field of turbocharging is showcased by the existing TCe 100 engine, which already features in the Renault Twingo, Clio and Modus catalogues. This powerplant is today joined by the TCe 130 engine – which is available for New Renault Mégane and Scénic – in a bid to offer a range of responsive, yet fuel efficient and affordable petrol engines. Similarly, Renault's new line-up of dCi diesel engines, which are widely acclaimed for their performance and fuel economy, have undergone further improvements to ensure that they are compatible with the Euro5 emission standard.

The Renault eco² signature enables customers to identify the range's most ecological vehicles. Indeed, the introduction of the Renault eco² hallmark saw Renault break new ground in its bid to reduce the environmental impact of its vehicles throughout their lifecycle, from their design and production to their end-of-life recycling. Leaving as small a trace as possible is the commitment of the Renault eco² signature.

Renault is also actively pursuing a breakaway strategy when it comes to reducing CO2 emissions with the development of electric vehicles. The Alliance Powertrain Planning Office (APPO) is a new department which has been established with a view to building on the synergies within the Alliance regarding powertrains based on heat engines and electric motors. The APPO will become operational on April 1, 2009.

45 Z.E. Concept (Zero Emission Concept) shows Renault's vision of what an electric vehicle should be, namely an efficient, easy-to-use zero-emission car. Based on the new Renault Kangoo be bop, the philosophy behind Z.E. Concept's design is that of an electric vehicle which reduces energy consumption to an absolute minimum, but without doing away with indispensable comfort-related equipment. The energy consumed by the different auxiliary functions such as the lights, heater, climate control, etc. is a fundamental parameter when it comes to a vehicle's autonomy, so Z.E. Concept optimizes energy management in order to ensure that it enjoys the longest range possible. It also features a long list of interactive information functions. Z.E. Concept is equipped with lithium-ion batteries and powered by a 95hp (70kW) electric motor which boasts torque of 226Nm.

Since January 2008, the Renault-Nissan Alliance has signed agreements with a long list of states and regions (Israel, Denmark, Portugal, Japan's Kanagawa prefecture, the USA states of Tennessee and Oregon, Monaco, etc.), which will lead to the mass marketing of electric vehicles from 2011. Other partnerships, such as the deals struck with EDF in France and Energie Ouest Suisse in Switzerland, provide the foundations for other associations in the future which will permit the development of the infrastructure for the mobility of tomorrow (battery-charging station networks, mobile phone-type monthly distance contracts, etc.)

Renault is also working on a range of solutions aimed at enabling customers to identify the vehicle that most closely matches their needs. Since January 2009, Renault has also extended its line-up of biofuel- compatible vehicles with bioethanol solutions for Modus, New Kangoo and New Mégane, and the availability of biodiesel engines for both New Laguna and New Kangoo.

A long list of other ongoing projects provides further evidence of Renault's commitment to the environment.

Meanwhile, simply by taking onboard a certain number of simple, effective techniques when driving on a day-to-day basis, it is possible for motorists to make fuel consumption savings of up to 20 per cent. Renault has consequently developed different forms of eco-driving tuition for its customers, such as eco- driving drive-days and the introduction of eco-driving simulators across the network in the course of 2009.

46 SAFETY INNOVATIONS AIMED AT REAL-LIFE SITUATIONS

With a record of 11 five-star EuroNCAP crash test ratings to its name, Renault benefits from a unique pool of expertise when it comes to safety, and the brand continues to claim a real edge over the majority of its rivals.

With a strategy focusing on four main areas, namely accident prevention, corrective action, occupant protection and road safety awareness, Renault is constantly innovating to provide its customers with a range of solutions that respond to the realities of everyday motoring. o Since side impacts account for one-third of fatal accidents, Renault has decided to equip its vehicles with twin side-impact sensors and thorax/groin airbags. o Given that one-fifth of deaths on the road result from head-on collisions: Renault vehicles are engineered to ensure that occupants benefit from the best protection possible from this sort of impact, whatever the size of vehicles involved.

When it comes to occupant protection, Renault has emerged over the years as the benchmark manufacturer, a status mirrored by the high scores its models have secured in crash tests organised by the independent body EuroNCAP.

New Mégane Five stars (2008), the safest vehicle of any category* (*adult rating) Koleos Five stars (2008) New Laguna Five stars (2007) Clio III Five stars (2005) Mégane II Coupé Cabriolet Five stars (2004), the first five-star vehicle of its category Modus Five stars (2004), the first five-star vehicle of its category Scénic II Five stars (2003), the compact MPV segment's first five-star vehicle Espace IV Five stars (2003) Mégane II Five stars (2002), the C segment's first five-star vehicle Vel Satis Five stars (2002 and 2005) Laguna II Five stars (2001 and 2003), the first model ever to achieve this level of safety

Renault is the only carmaker to have scored the maximum five-star rating 11 times

47 Renault's approach to safety extends well beyond merely complying with legal requirements and satisfying customer demand. Since 2002, for example, the Renault range has benefited from the introduction of the third-generation Renault System for Restraint and Protection (SRP3). This system guarantees the most effective protection possible against 'submarining', a term used to describe the phenomenon whereby the groin has tendency to slide beneath the seatbelt's lap strap in an accident. Submarining is responsible for sometimes serious and occasionally fatal abdominal lesions. Similarly, given that side impacts are a major cause of fatal road accidents (one-third), especially in built-up areas, Renault has recently extended its occupant protection systems to include twin side-impact sensors positioned at the bottom of the B-posts (centre door pillars). In side-on collisions, these sensors halve the time required to trigger the new dual-chamber thorax/groin airbags from approximately 10ms to 5ms. At the same time, the pressure exerted by these innovative airbags is up to three times higher in the groin region – which is more exposed and more resilient – compared with that applied to the thorax. Initially introduced on upper-range versions of New Laguna, twin side- impact sensors are today a feature of the entire Mégane line-up.

Renault engineers carry out some 400 crash tests every year at the specialist test centre in Lardy, near Paris, France, which was opened in 1951. This work regularly involves collisions between two models of differing masses and sizes which are aimed at designing vehicles whose capacity to absorb impact energy ensures that occupants of both vehicles are afforded the best possible protection in a crash. Last December, a test of this type was carried out using New Laguna and New Mégane (mass difference between the two models: 300kg) which were projected at a speed of 60kph. In addition to their outstanding individual safety performance, both models performed perfectly. The 100 or so sensors located on the adult and child dummies revealed that occupants would have sustained only light injuries at the worst.
