Modern Greek lessons for Erasmus students

The Modern Greek Language Teaching Centre offers Modern Greek language courses for Erasmus students specially geared towards their needs. These classes take place at the Athens University campus of Zografou. The Erasmus Modern Greek language course is divided into two semesters and students are provided the option of attending either semester, or both semesters. Who may attend these courses?  All incoming Erasmus students attending lessons at their respective institutions in the area (the University of Athens, Athens University of and Business, the National Technical University, Panteio University, Xarokopeio [*Harokopio] University, University of , School of Fine Arts, Agricultural University of Athens, Technological Educational Institute of Athens, Technological Educational Institute of Piraeus) may register and attend the lessons

Are the courses for free?  The courses are not free. The Modern Greek Language Teaching Centre has agreements with the Erasmus offices of the University of Athens, the and the Xarokopeio [*Harokopio] University which subsequently cover the fees of their students. All students of other or Technical Colleges must pay the fees themselves

How much is the cost of each semester?  The cost is 210,00 € per semester. The fees are deposited in the bank account of the University of Athens held at Alpha Bank (account no. 802002001000227). During the registration dates, each prospective student must bring the receipt of payment from Alpha Bank and one photocopy of the receipt

What is the duration of the course?  For the first semester the lessons will begin on the 13th of October 2014 and end on the 22nd of January 2015  For the second semester the lessons will begin on the 16th of February 2015 and end on the 28th of May 2015

Please note that students who have enrolled in the first semester and wish to attend the second semester MUST register again during the registration dates for the second semester. To register, a photocopy of your student card is required

When and how do I register for the Modern Greek courses for Erasmus students?  The registrations for the first semester will take place on the 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 7th of October 2014 between 10:00-13:00 at the Secretariat of the Modern Greek Language Teaching Centre Πανεπιστημιούπολη, 157 84 Ζωγράφου University Campus, 157 84 Zografou, Τηλ./Tel.: +30210-7277672, 210-7277971 - Fax: 210-7277673 E-mail: [email protected] - Web site: www.greekcourses.uoa.gr

 The registrations for the second semester will take place on the 10th and 11th of February 2015 between 10:00-13:00 at the Secretariat of the Modern Greek Language Teaching Centre

Do I have to write the placement test?  The placement test for the first semester will take place on the 8th of October 2014  The placement test for the second semester will take place on the 12th of February 2015  If a student has no knowledge of Modern Greek, he/she will attend the Elementary level of lessons. If a student has some knowledge of Modern Greek, he/she must write a placement test  Students who have attended the first semester and wish to attend the second semester will continue at the next level

How do I know into which class and/or level I have been placed?  The results (and the details about the classrooms) for the first semester will be pinned on the bulletin board on the 13th of October 2014  The results (and the details about the classrooms) for the second semester will be pinned on the bulletin board on the 16th of February 2015

What documents do I need to bring for registration?  Application form: Each student MUST register electronically. The form is found on our website (www.greekcourses.uoa.gr). Once the form has been completed, the registration confirmation must be printed and handed in to the Secretary’s office during registration  Photocopy of your Certificate for the Admission as an Erasmus Student  Photocopy of your passport/identity card  1 photo (passport size)  The original bank receipt, plus a photocopy, from Alpha Bank (account no. 802002001000227) (except for students of the University of Piraeus, Xarokopeio [*Harokopio] University and the University of Athens)  (Harokopio’s Erasmus students will also bring the Registration Certificate (available on http://eclass.hua.gr/courses/UNI111/index.php) duly filled up by themselves. This document has to be signed by the Greek Lessons’ Secretary and returned by the students at ’s Erasmus Office as soon as possible. Moreover they commit themselves to attend the classes and at the end, to bring at Harokopio University’s Erasmus Office a duplicate or a copy of the Certificate of attendance issued by the Modern Greek Language teaching Center of the University of Athens.

Can I have more information about the Modern Greek lessons?  Modern Greek Lessons for Erasmus students take place from 18:00-21:00, two times a week. The Modern Greek lessons are divided into two semesters. You can choose to enroll in either semester or both. Students may participate in the end of year progress test. However of the students who have passed the test, ONLY those that have attended at least 80% of the lessons, as indicated by the daily register of attendance, will be awarded ECTS credits. Participation in each semester is awarded with 6 credits (for two semesters a total of 12 credits are awarded). Students will receive a certificate after each semester (a certificate with a total of 12 credits will not be issued under any circumstances)

Where do the Modern Greek lessons for Erasmus students take place?  The Modern Greek lessons for Erasmus students take place at the Modern Greek Language Teaching Centre of the University of Athens. The Modern Greek Language Teaching Centre is situated in the University of Athens campus, Zografou (next to the School of Philosophy)  During the period of study (not registration) the Secretary’s office is open to the public only on Monday-Wednesday-Friday 11:00-13:00 or Monday-Tuesday 16:00-18:00

Which bus routes take me to the University campus of Zografou?  The following buses leave from Akadimias Str.: 608, 220, 221 and 235. The 250 links the School of Philosophy with metro station “Evangelismos”.
