Spring 2021 Design Internship

Responsibilities of the can include, but are not limited to: Design projects related to museum exhibitions and events, retail, social media, marketing, and development

Possible Spring 2021 projects include designing merchandise, branding and web design for 2021 events, refining branding for the Fall 2021 exhibition All Together Now – Sound x Design, and pending COVID installation for the traveling exhibition A Designed Life: Contemporary American Textiles, Wallpapers, Containers and Packaging, 1951–1954. The intern may also propose and complete a special project over the course of the internship, guided by museum staff. All work completed over the course of the internship will serve to further the intern’s field of study or professional aspirations as well as the mission of the museum, with the goal of providing experience that cannot be found in other academic work.

The Design Intern will report directly to the museum’s Art Director, although they will also interact with the rest of the museum’s staff. The Art Director will communicate with the Design Intern via email, Slack, and Zoom as appropriate each week, including for project kickoffs, design reviews, and continual feedback. Full team meetings will occur on a biweekly basis as informal check-ins.

Requirements • Proof of enrollment in a higher education institution — undergraduate or graduate school • Coursework or demonstrable experience in , UI/UX, and/or visual communication • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite applications • Personal device on which intern can work (laptop, desktop, tablet) and the ability to consistently communicate virtually • Ability to work independently • Strong time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines • Comfortable working remotely • Flexible and adaptable • Available to complete internship hours between 9–5 pm, Monday–Friday

This position includes a stipend of $4,352, which will be paid in 3 installments, 1 at the beginning of the internship, in the middle of the internship, and when the internship is complete. This stipend is equivalent to 256 hours of work over the course of the internship.

This internship is open to all students, but preference will be given to BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, first generation college students, or students who demonstrate financial need.
