International School Award The International School Award is a prestigious Award accredited by British Council of India for curriculum based international work in the school. We are proud to mention that our school has received International School Award in recognition of the international work and collaborative projects with schools from UK and other parts of the world. It is indeed a prestigious achievement for all of us. This award has provided a platform where students truly opened their ideas and developed a deeper understanding of the world around them. The whole concept of being a part of ISA has given our students critical thinking about global issues and thus they have become globally aware and responsible.

Under the ISA, we prepared an annual action plan consisting of number of activities as per the guidelines given by the British Council and then implemented it as a part of the curriculum. The school has also established links with overseas schools to get the global dimension embedded into the teaching learning process and we leave no stone unturned in imparting universal education to our students to become the global leaders. As a part of exchange programme, in the month of July, 2011, a group of three teachers, - Mr Romin, Ms Anna and Mr Jerrome had visited our school from College Blaise D’Auriol, France. They had good interactive sessions with the students of our School and informative teaching methodology was exchanged with the teachers. It was a very enriching experience. With them our students are having series of Video conferences on various topics.

Vol. 1, Issue 3 | October, 2011 NewsLetter 3 Cultural Extravaganza The Indian Heights School welcomed a group of 23 overseas delegates from Germany, Austria, Mexico, Sweden, Netherlands, Lithuania, Norway, and France during their 5 days stay in the school premises from 12th July to 16th July 2011 in collaboration with an NGO, YFU (Youth For Understanding). These foreign students are in India for one year and have taken admission in various schools as a part of Cultural Exchange Programme. The aim and idea for this programme is to have a proper understanding of the culture of our country and to know from these students about their culture and tradition. During the orientation programme, these foreign delegates interacted with our students and had interactive class room sessions, exchange of ideas and views related to the teaching pattern. During their stay, the school had organized many activities like Tree Plantation, Grameen Sandhya, Visit to Temple, Gurudwara, and Church, Cultural Evening, Visit to Old Age Home and Destitute Children, Delhi Darshan and a Kho-Kho match. The similar orientation will be conducted again for them before they depart to their respective countries in the month of March, 2012. This cultural exchange programme is a step towards providing an opportunity to imbibe the diversity and uniqueness of each other’s culture.

A two day Inter School Competition – Euphony 2011, was hosted by the school on 25th and 26th August 2011. A plethora of activities were organized and the students got ample opportunities to showcase their talent and skills. The campus was filled with vibrant energy. More than 300 students filled with fervour from over 27 schools participated in the gala event. The programme started with the “Lighting of the Lamp” followed by “Ganesh Vandana”. The students of the host school presented a scintillating dance performance. The Principal of the School – Ms Archana Narain, welcomed the judges, teachers and all the participating students. In her welcome speech she encouraged all the students to perform their best and wished them all the success. The Judges who graced the occasion were Ms T. Sornam – Principal of Brats and Cuties, Ms Urmila Vishel – Head Mistress, Just Kidzz, Ms Rajni – Chief Montessori Trainer , Ms Tani Chopra – owner of Silver Oak School, Mr Pushkar Anand , Mr Piyush Gupta, Mr Anupam, Ms Pooja from Swar Sadhana School of Music, Mr Ashwani Tyagi – a famous Photographer, Mr Nitin Majumdar – a renowned Artist and Ms Julie Tokas an Educationist. All the participating schools gave tough competition to each other and to the judges also in deciding the winners. It was an enthralling experience for one and all.

The events like Master Splash - Colouring Competition, Deck ‘n’ Depict , Rock ‘n’ Roll- Western Dance Competition and Terza Rima- English Recitation Competition were the attractions of the first day.

The second day was equally eventful. Competitions like Weave-a-Tale, Ad- Enactment, Wall Magazine, Folk Dance Competition were held.

The event was a great success and Euphony 2011 proved to be truly an amalgamation of creativity and talent.

Bonanza Of Activities

Every moment in the life of a student is a testing and learning time. With a constant grit and determination, a child builds his own new world. To make learning stress free, eventful and interesting, there are a plethora of co-curricular activities undertaken in the school. Personality Development Classes, Theatre Classes, Martial Art Classes and with the introduction of various Clubs like Environment Club, Health club, Music Club, Animation Club, Astronomy Club, Aerobic Club, Art and Craft Club, Heritage Club, Table Tennis Club, Lawn Tennis Club and Skating Club. Students get ample opportunity to choose any activity according to their interest and aptitude.

It develops the feeling of oneness, confidence, cooperation and unity among the students. Festive Festival celebrations not only provide entertainment but also bring us closer to our rich cultural heritage. All the festivals of India are being celebrated in our school as Spirit we strongly believe in unity in diversity. The school gave a festive look on the following occasions:

Christmas Christmas was celebrated with great pomp and show in the School. Senior students sang Carols and shared information on the significance and importance of celebrating Christmas. They also shared the importance of Christmas Tree, Bells, Star, Reindeer and Stocking. Junior students were dressed up in Santa and Fairy costumes. A DJ party with foot tapping numbers was the highlight of the celebration.

Basant Panchami Students of The Indian Heights School welcomed the spring with enthusiasm on Basant Panchami. A special Saraswati Pooja was performed where students offered prayers and flowers to seek blessings from Maa Saraswati – the Goddess of knowledge.

Baisakhi Baisakhi was celebrated with the spirit of festivity in the school. Students came to school dressed up in Punjabi costumes. A special cultural programme was organized and the attraction of the event was the Giddha Dance performed by the students of Little Steps.

Janamashtami Celebration Janamashtami was celebrated with great pomp and show. Little Steps students came to school dressed up in Krishna, Radha, Gopi , Gwala and villager’s attire. A special assembly was organized and a dance performance was also presented by the students. A Handi breaking competition was also the special attraction of the day.

Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra October is the month of celebrations. Our students celebrated Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra before their Autumn Break. They gave their tribute to the Father of the Nation by singing Gandhiji’s favourite songs and mesmerizing performances were presented by the students on the nine incarnations of Goddess Durga.

Rabindra Jayanti A special programme was conducted by Little Steps students on Rabindranath Jayanti to give tribute to the renowned and famous writer. Students sang the famous song “Ekla Chalo Re” and presented a dance performance.

Children’s Day A splendid Children’s Day marked another point of reference in the arena of celebrations. The magnificent moments were cherished by one and all. Many activity zones were tastefully designed for fun and frolic. The attraction of the day was the DJ party which added on to the revelry.

Mother’s Day Celebrations of Mother’s Day occur throughout the world. “Mother” a word that reminds us of warmth and love. To rekindle the same warmth, our students also expressed their gratitude towards their wonderful mothers by making lovely Mother’s Day Cards.

Saga Of Patriotism The 62nd was celebrated with fervour and patriotism by the students. The whole campus was decorated with tri-colour flags. During a cultural programme, students sang and danced on patriotic songs and shared the historic struggle of our freedom fighters.

Independence Day The 64th was celebrated with gaiety and enthusiasm. The whole campus was decorated with tri colour flags and was bubbling with the spirit of patriotic fervour. The Principal hoisted the flag and apprised the students about the importance of this day. All the students took a pledge to do whatever little they can to make their school and country proud of them. A scintillating cultural programme was organized by Little ones followed by Inter-House Patriotic Song Competition and Patriotic Group Dance Competition where students from all the four Houses sang and danced on patriotic numbers. The programme culminated with the distribution of sweets.

Friendship Day Students celebrated Friendship day in a very special manner. They made Friendship Day Cards and Friendship bands. They later exchanged the bands with their friends. On this day the teachers shared the importance of friends in one’s life. The students pledged to help their friends.

Funday A Fun Day was celebrated by Little Steps students. A variety of activities were planned for them like Bouncee, Standies in the shape of Power Puff Girls and swings. Later, a small dance party was also organized.

The Assembly is an opportunity for displaying the Special inexhaustible talent of the children. It fosters the spirit of group activity, leadership and value building. Theme based assemblies help exposing students to national and international cultures. It increases the awareness and sensitivity of the Assemblies students about special days, festivals, social and environment issues.

International Children’s Day Class IX students discussed in detail the importance of reading books and encouraged all students to develop the habit of reading on 4th April’11 during the Special Assembly.

World Health Day With the help of a skit performance, the students of class VIII celebrated The World Health Day on 7th April’11. They made the Assembly very informative by presenting amazing facts. A number of tips and suggestions were given as to how one can remain fit.

World Heritage Day A very educative and informative Special Assembly was conducted by the Middle school students on 10th April on World Health Day.

Tribute To Mother Earth Adorned with a bow and holding the placards, students of class IV celebrated “Earth Day” on 21st April’11 and gave a beautiful message of protecting our mother earth with the help of a mesmerizing dance performance.

World Malaria Day Learners of class III presented a very informative as well as entertaining Assembly on 25th April’11 on World Malaria Day.

International World Dance Day On the occasion of World Dance Day, on 28th April’11, students of class II-A presented a dance performance which was dedicated to Mother Earth. With the theme as “3R’S”they showed that by following the “3R’S” method i.e. Reduce, Re-cycle and Re-use we can protect the environment. The importance of World Dance Day and why it is celebrated was also the highlight of the Assembly.

International Red Cross Day Learners of Class VI by wearing Red Cross Badges paid tribute to the volunteers of Red Cross for their unstinted contribution to the people in need by celebrating Red Cross Day on 5th May’11 during the Special Assembly. They shared the importance and significance of this day through a skit.

International Workers Day To celebrate the dignity of labour a Special Assembly was organized on the International Workers Day. Students were told that no work is small or big. Work is worship and we all must respect the dignity of labour.

Astronomy Day In the Special Assembly on Astronomy Day the students of class VII shared their experiences of watching Solar Eclipse and discussed about the Full Moon, New Moon and Phases of Moon.

International Ozone Day A Special Assembly was conducted to celebrate and create awareness on International Ozone Day. Students were apprised about the harmful effects of pollution and depletion of ozone layer.

Hindi Diwas A Special Assembly was conducted on this day and the school celebrated with a week long activities on Diwas to foster the love for the mother tongue among the students.

Graduation Ceremony Gathering joyfully, wearing their proud Graduation Caps and Gowns, was a sight not to be missed as our little ones were all set for their Graduation Day. Graduation Day was celebrated on 2nd April’11 in the school Auditorium. A well known academician Mr. Satpal Singh graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The programme started with the “Lighting of the Lamp” ceremony. Students welcomed everyone by singing rhymes. Little dancing divas left the audience spell bound. Chief Guest, Mr. Satpal Singh encouraged and motivated the students with his words of appreciation for them. He shared with parents the importance of spending quality time with the children as time can not be substituted by anything. The graduated Little orators spoke about their experiences of early days in the school. Teacher’s Day This day was celebrated with a special assembly. Students paid their respect to Dr. S. Radhakrishnan. They presented flowers and Teacher’s Day cards to their beloved teachers. The bond between mentor and disciple was seen everywhere. A special entertainment programme was also organized for the teachers. Investiture Ceremony The school’s first Investiture Ceremony was held on 5th September 2011. A student council was formed. The Chief Guest administered the oath to the newly appointed Prefectorial Board to work with sincerity, honesty and dedication. The student council was brimming with confidence to shoulder the newly assigned duties. Students pledged to perform their duties and responsibilities with full zeal, enthusiasm and efficiency.

“PRATIBIMB 2010”, the 3rd Annual Day was celebrated on 12th December 2010 in the school campus. It was based on the theme NAV RASAS, a Bharat Muni’s book Natyashastra. The Chief Guest of the event was Col. B.S. Braria, Director of Army Schools and Army Public Schools and the Guest of Honour was Ms Mohini Bindra, Principal Ramjas School. Mrs. Madhu Gupta, Chairperson of the school welcomed the gathering and shared her vision about the school followed by Principal of the school, Mrs Archana Narain’s address to the parents. Coordinator, Mrs Madhumita Mukherjee read the Annual School Report. The meritorious students were honoured with certificates for their outstanding performance. The programme started by seeking the blessings of the goddess Saraswati by reciting Saraswati Vandana and presenting a scintillating dance performance. Students enacted the different nine rasas present in every one’s life. The audience were spell bound by the beautifully choreographed dance moves. The beats of Mime dance, Clown dance, Ghoomer dance, Angel dance, Jungle and Nature dance enthralled the adorable parents. The grand finale and the show stopper of the evening was the heart throbbing performance by the students on the Medley which left everyone mesmerized by the vibrant dance moves. Through this act the message conveyed was that it is very important to balance all the nine rasas in our life. To bring out the hidden talent and potential of the students round the year Fun-filled Activities, Camps, Workshops, Seminars, Orientation Programmes are organized. This Glimpses ensures the overall development of the students. Fun Galore Exciting and entertaining activities filled with fun were organized from 14th March to 18th March 2011 to channelize the energy of our active, energetic and creative learners. These activities were a source of inculcating useful life skills in our students. The highlights of these activities were the Puppet Show and Pottery Making activity which enthralled the children. In order to encourage reading habit in the students, the school organized a Book Fair. Such Book Fairs not only help the students to find books of their choice at one place but it also re-determine their desire to form the habit of reading.

Rendezvous Orientation Programme To welcome the Parents of newly admitted as well as the existing ones, an Orientation Programme was conducted. The programme was presided over by the Principal, Ms Archana Narain. She gave an overview of the school along with its detailed curriculum planning. It was an enriching experience and an exhilarating initiative by the school to make the parents feel their status of being the stakeholders of the organization. Parents were briefed about the new milestones which will be attained in the coming Academic Session in the field of academics, sports, globalization and structural advancement. Workshop on Phonics A Phonics Workshop for the parents of Little Steps students was organized. This workshop helped the parents to closely observe the pronunciation and sounds of English alphabet. The idea of conducting this workshop was to ensure that the teaching-learning process gets supplemented by their active involvement in the studies of their wards. Dental Camp In our step towards ensuring the oral hygiene of the students the school had organized a Dental Check up Camp in association with Dr. Mayur Sharma, Dr Vipula Sharma and Dr Raksha Dixit. The team of doctors gave useful tips and suggestions to the students to maintain oral hygiene.

When a number of students participate in various competitions and achieve laurels for the school they not only bring pride but also learn the spirit of healthy competition.

In the academic session 2011-12, our students participated in the number of inter-school competitions in various schools of Dwarka and NCR. We are proud of Ms Akshita Ramola, a student of class VI and Ms Hyeon Jo Lee, a student of class VII for bagging the Third prize in the “Tell a Tale” event held at the JM International School. Following the footsteps of the senior students our junior student, Ms Manvi Duggal of class Step-I also brought laurels by scoring Third position in “Fun with Clay” Competition held at Paramount International School. In yet another achievement, the students brought pride to the school by receiving 3rd prize in “Western Dance Competition” conducted by Shiksha Bharti School. Sports and games not only enhance quality of life but also improves the developmental, communal and physical aspects of the participants. Sports help students in learning the values like discipline, responsibility, self confidence, sacrifice, accountability, team spirit and leadership qualities. In order to fulfill the sporting potential, training is provided to the students for various sports activities like football, basketball, cricket, table tennis, lawn tennis, martial art and skating to name a few. In the sports arena, students showcased their potentials in all the sports related competitions brilliantly which is quite visible through the following results. The results of Skating Championship‘s are as follows: 3RD INTER SCHOOL ROLLER SKATING CHAMPIONSHIP was conducted by Perfect Skating Academy. The Championship was held on 19th-20th February’2011 at The Indian Heights School. Many schools from Dwarka and participated in the Championship. The students participated enthusiastically and contributed a lot towards Anti Honking, Visit to Old Age Home, Distribution of books to destitute children, Shram Dhan and for Save Water Campaign they met the . The school is also associated with Project- AKSHAR. This project will help in creating extremely affordable, eco-friendly notebooks for children in need, by reusing one side used sheets that are discarded as waste. The students are procuring these sheets in order to contribute towards this noble cause. Sow A Seed Our little toddlers participated in the “Sowing a Seed” activity wherein they sowed wheat seeds in plastic glasses filled with manure. With great care they watered their plants daily till the seeds turned into saplings which was transferred to the ground later on. Labour Day In order to sensitize the students about the importance of Labour Day, a special assembly on 1st May, 2011 was conducted. The dignity of work and labour were discussed at length and it was told to the students that no work is small or big. All the class IV employees of the school were honoured and appreciated for their contribution in the day to day working of the school. Tree Plantation We, at The Indian Heights School nurture our students to become responsible citizens. The care and concern for the environment is an important issue and our students exhibited the same by participating in the Plantation Drive organized by the Women’s Neighbourhood Society Dwarka. The Dy. Mayor of Dwarka Mr. Rajesh Gahlot was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Together with the students they planted saplings, as the campaign of the Plantation Drive was to ensure “Clean and Green Dwarka”.

Study is no more restricted to the classroom only. In order to imbibe the actual and practical aspect of learning, regular excursions and trips are organized, so that students can take hands-on knowledge. Visit to a Plant Nursery To inculcate the importance of nature, students of Little Steps were taken to the nearby Nursery. Through this visit students got an opportunity to be with nature for some time. The students were delighted to see so many flowers and plants at one place. Trip to Children’s park This visit was very amusing and entertaining. Students had good time in the Children’s Park. They enjoyed on all the rides and swings. Visit to Shiv Murti To seek the blessings of Lord Shiva, a trip to Shiv Murti was organized. Trip to Rail Museum It was a fun filled visit to the Rail Museum where students enjoyed a train ride and had lot of fun. Visit to Students were taken to the India Gate where they saw “Amar Jawan Jyoti”. They also offered prayers to the martyrs. Trip to Air Force Museum A trip to the Air Force Museum was conducted for Little steps students which was very educative as well as funfilled. Visit to Mughal Garden Students got an opportunity to visit Mughal Garden. As the beauty of this garden is amazing, it was a visual treat for the students to see beautiful flowers. Trip to Qutub Minar As a part of our Heritage Week, students visited Qutub Minar. They all were amazed to see the architectural beauty and learnt about the ancient history of this monument. Visit to Zoo This visit was enjoyed by the students very much. They got an opportunity to see many kinds of birds and animals. Along with that, a detailed information was shared with the students about the different types of trees planted there. Trip to Bal Bhavan 14th September was the day of excitement for the students as they visited Bal Bhavan on that day. Students were taken to the museum where they saw puppets depicting characters from the epics in Bal Bhavan and enjoyed watching a variety of fishes in a big aquarium as well.
