Previously thought to have become extinct at the end of the middle Pliocene, this genus is now known from the very latest Pliocene. Baskin1 Eleven genera and twelve species of Carnivora are known from the late Miocene Love Bone Bed Local Fauna, Alachua County, Florida. Taxa from there described in detail for the first time include the canid cf. Urocyon sp., the hemicyonine ursid cf. Plithocyon sp., and the mustelids Leptarctus webbi n. sp., Hoplictis sp., and ?Sthenictis near ?S. lacota. Postcrania of the nimravid Barbourofelis indicate that it had a subdigitigrade posture and most likely stalked and ambushed its prey in dense cover. The postcranial morphology of Nimravides (Felidae) is most similar to the jaguar, Panthera onca. The carnivorans strongly support a latest Clarendonian age assignment for the Love Bone Bed. Although the Love Bone Bed local fauna does show some evidence of endemism at the species level, it demonstrates that by the late Clarendonian, Florida had become part of the Clarendonian chronofauna of the midcontinent, in contrast to the higher endemism present in the early Miocene and in the later Miocene and Pliocene of Florida. Published June 17, 1969 Price for this issue $1.50 MIOCENE AND PLIOCENE ARTIODACTYLS, TEXAS GULF COASTAL PLAIN THOMAS HUDSON PATTON1 SYNOPSIS: Describes 27 species of fossil artiodactyls from a series of vertically successive mammalian. assemblages in Miocene and Pliocene deposits of the Texas Gulf Coastal Plain and discusses their systematic positions. Among the new forms represented are two camel genera: Australocametus, the probable Aep!/cameZus ancestor, and Nothott/lopus, a very unusual member of the Proto- labis-Pliauchenia lineage. The Floridagulinae are now seen to have had a trans-Coastal Plain distribution extending in time from the middle Heming- fordian Garvin Gully Fauna through the Barstovian Cold Spring Fauna. The Gulf Coast species of the Synthetoceratinae are discussed and the phylogeny of the subfamily outlined. Evidence from this study indicates that the Gulf Coastal Plain constituted a distinct faunal province throughout most of the Tertiary. Whereas many striking similarities exist between the faunas of the Texas Coastal Plain and those of the Great Plains, several groups are true Gulf Coast autochthons.

LUCAS New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science, 1801 Mountain Road N.W., Albuquerque, NM 87104 Abstract—Cranial and dental material of a teleoceratine rhinoceros from near Juchitlán, Jalisco, Mexico, is illus- trated, described and assigned to Teleoceras. The relatively small size and lack of p2 support assignment of these specimens to the late Hemphillian T. guymonense, which suggests a late Hemphillian age for the Juchitlán Teleoceras. Nevertheless, published records and fossil mammals from near Juchitlán in collections in Guadalajara include Hemphillian, Blancan and Irvingtonian taxa. There are about a dozen records of Teleoceras (or probable Teleoceras) from Mexico, all (or most) of Hemphillian age, that extend from Chihuahua to Chiapas. They indicate a broad geographic distribution of this rhinoceros in Mexico during the late Miocene. INTRODUCTION The teleoceratine rhinoceros Teleoceras is one of the most distinc- tive and widespread fossil mammals known from Miocene strata in the United States (Prothero, 2005). However, despite various published reports of Teleoceras from Mexico, beginning as early as Cope (1884), little of the Mexican material has been adequately documented. Here, I provide such documentation of what is one of the best samples of Teleoceras known from Mexico, specimens collected near Juchitlán in Jalisco (Fig. 1). These specimens are housed in the Museo Regional de Guadalajara del Instituto Nacional de Antropologia y Historia (INAH) and the Museo de Paleontologia de Guadalajara (MPG), both in Guadalajara, Mexico.
