Disa Digital Safety Gmbh Signs Agreements with Major Consumer DiSa Digital Safety GmbH signs agreements with major consumer electronics retailers in Germany, Medi Max franchisee Radio City KG and ALDI GmbH Co & KG , to launch the commericalisation of the DiSa Anti-Theft System in the retail stores Singapore / Germany, 14 December 2011 - DiSa Digital Safety GmbH (‘‘DiSa GmbH‘‘) , a subsidiary of Equation Corp , has signed two agreements with ALDI GmBH Co & KG (“ALDI GmBH”) and Radio City KG, a franchisee of Medi Max Zentrale Electronics GmBH (“Medi Max”) , to launch the commercialisation of DiSa Anti-Theft System (“DiSa”) in the German market. ALDI GmBH has more than 4,000 stores in Germany and 1,135 stores in 30 US States. Medi Max has 110 outlets located in Germany. DiSa is finalizing technical details with Medion AG (“Medion”), an exclusive suppliers to the ADLI GmBH , for the installation of the DiSa system in ADLI stores. This commericalisation will happen in phases due to the huge numbers of ADLI outlets in Germany. Medion AG, a 2 billion euro leading PC, multimedia and consumer electronics manufacturer, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Lenovo of China. Blaupunkt GmbH, a German electronics company owned by Aurelius AG of Germany, is also committed to supply DiSa protected electronics products to Medi Max group of companies. Radio City KG (“Radio”) is a long-term partner and franchisee of Medi Max. Radio’s owner, Mr Will Kloecker is a respectable veteran in the consumer electronic retail industry in Germany. He is Chairman of the steering committee of the Federal Association Technology of Retail which is formed by retailers & dealers to formula policies and set guidelines for its members in the consumer electronics retail industry. The endorsement of the DiSa anti-theft system by Mr Kloecker reflects the growing recognition of the effectiveness of DiSa as a breakthrough technology to help retailers cut losses due to pilferage. Through the commercialisation of DiSa with Blaupunkt, current and future suppliers to Medi Max would have to adopt the DiSa codes which will be embedded at the manufacturing stage. Medi Max, in this case, will install a one-time DiSa activator to unlock all DiSa protected products sold. ALDI also needs to install the same DiSa activator. Despite the EU financial crisis, DiSa continues to stay focus on its execution plan to proliferate our DiSa to help retailers fight pilferage. With the two retailers on board, this signifies strong endorsement for the use of DiSa in the anti-theft industry. Equation Corp Limited and DiSa Digital Safety GmbH DiSa Digital Safety GmbH (‘‘DiSa GmbH“) is a 67.3% owned subsidiary of Equation Corp Limited (“Equation”) in Germany. Awarded by the certification body of TUV Rheinland Secure iT GmbH for its IT infrastructure on secure transmission and processing of the application data for the ‘‘Anti-Theft System for Digital Devices” DiSa GmbH currently acts as the technology, service and marketing centre for the Equation group in Europe . Equation is a diversified investment holding company listed on the SGX-ST Catalist. DiSa combines the principle of conditional access and rights management to create an electronic element (“DiSa Codes”) within an electronic product that affects its functionality. DiSa generally relates to mechanism and methods for minimizing or eliminating the loss of electronic products due to theft and pilferage. It is a cradle-to-grave solution which allows small electronic devices to be encrypted with a security code. DiSa is capable of protecting a wide-array of electronic products ranging from digital cameras, Portable and HDD storage (flash drives, HDD, SSD), Notebook, portable audio, MP3, most video & audio products, mobile phones and other high shrink consumer electronic product categories. DiSa was awarded two certificates for its innovative features at the 2009 Plus X Award Technology in Cologne, Germany. .

  • Overseas Expansion and Technological Capabilities : the Case
Interim report for Industrial organisation in China: Theory building and analysis of new dimensions, IDE-JETRO, Fiscal year 2016 Overseas expansion and technological capabilities: The case of Chinese electronics firms Koichiro Kimura* Abstract Many indigenous Chinese firms have become outward looking for further growth. It is known that the productivities of internationalizing firms are higher on average than those of their non-internationalizing counterparts. As predicted, Chinese firms with increasing technological capabilities also have been accelerating overseas operations. The formation of technological capabilities is, however, different among firms. In this case study, we analyse the formation of technological capabilities in China’s home appliance and electronics industry, focusing on the technological gaps between foreign and Chinese firms. We show that when technological gaps are smaller, firms have possibilities to increase technological capabilities by acquiring businesses of firms in developed countries. However, in the telecommunication equipment industry, wherein bigger gaps exist, it is still difficult to buy major competitors because they retain competitiveness. Moreover, since business opportunities in new markets are increasing and the hurdles for starting businesses are decreasing, even startups from developing countries have opportunities to seize first-mover advantages. Keywords: innovation, R&D, M&A, startups, China, electronics industry * Associate Senior Research Fellow, Inter-disciplinary Studies Center, Institute of Developing Economies (IDE), Japan. The author thanks the members of the research project “Industrial Organisation in China: Theory Building and Analysis of New Dimensions,” Dr. Mai Fujita (the project leader, IDE), Dr. John Humphrey (University of Sussex), Professor Shiro Hioki (Tohoku University), and Dr. Ke Ding (IDE) for their comments.
