This is the first identified invertebrate predator of this Italian endemic newt. The possible role of this beetle in the local demographic control of the newt is briefly discussed.     1 The Genoese Annals of Ottobuono Scriba The Genoese annals were begun in 1100 by Caffaro di Rustico, then a young man of twenty who went on to have a distinguished career in the government of the city of Genoa. Caffaro continued his annals into old age, only laying down his pen in 1163. Some years earlier, in 1152, he had formerly presented his work to the consuls and commune of the city, who had a copy made and kept in the city archives. After his death his ‘annals’ were continued by others as the official history of the city of Genoa, down until 1294. The notary Ottobuono ws the second continuator after Caffaro, and wrote the section from 1174 until 1196, although he only began writing in 1189, and his account of the previous fifteen years was written retrospectively. He was however an eyewitness of the events of the 1190s, and his first-hand account reveals the anger of the Genoese at the failure of Henry VI to fulfil the promises that he made to the city in return for its naval aid, as well as the problems posed to the imperial expeditions by the continued rivalry of the Genoese and Pisans. The steep slopes of the mountains have been deforested–several times in many cases–with consequent erosion; frane or avalanches remove large tracts of regolith, and doubly obliterate the archaeological record. In the valley-bottoms active streams have deposited and eroded successive layers of fill, sealing and destroying the evidence of settlement in many relatively favored niches. The more extensive lowlands have also seen substantial depositions of alluvial and colluvial material; the coasts have been exposed to erosion, aggradation and occasional tectonic deformation, or–spectacularly in the Bay of Naples– alternating collapse and re-elevation (“bradyseism”) at a staggeringly rapid pace. Earthquakes everywhere have accelerated the rate of change; vulcanicity in Campania has several times transformed substantial tracts of landscape beyond recognition–and reconstruction (thus no attempt is made here to re-create the contours of any of the sometimes very different forerunners of today’s Mt. Vesuvius). To this instability must be added the effect of intensive and continuous intervention by humanity. Episodes of depopulation in the Italian peninsula have arguably been neither prolonged nor pronounced within the timespan of the map and beyond. Even so, over the centuries the settlement pattern has been more than usually mutable, which has tended to obscure or damage the archaeological record. More archaeological evidence has emerged as modern urbanization spreads; but even more has been destroyed. What is available to the historical cartographer varies in quality from area to area in surprising ways.

Rigorous border control policies created by individual countries within Europe reflect a feeling of being threatened by immigrants from the Global South who invoke Europe’s colonial past. Differences between the dominating hegemonic gaze enjoyed by Italy actively work to marginalize and silence voices presenting a different, less Eurocentric perspective. This paper traces Italy’s background as a colonial, Fascist power to understand the modern-day foreclosed racial elements and postcolonialist sentiments manifested in immigration policies. They are designed to exclude and make Europe and its Southern Mediterranean border into a fortress. Films and documentaries created by Europeans and immigrants offer striking differences in their creators’ points of view and possibly their biases.     Territorio e popolazione La provincia di Latina si estende per 2.250 kmq, è costituita da 33 comuni e una popolazione residente di 569.664 abitanti (Maschi 280.314 e Femmine 289.350), di cui 42.821 stranieri (Fonte Dati ISTAT al 31 dicembre 2013) Il territorio, diviso tra aree collinari, montuose e piane costiere comprende anche le isole dell’arcipelago pontino. Il 67% della popolazione risiede in pianura, il 32% in collina e l’1% circa in montagna e nelle isole dell’arcipelago pontino. La densità abitativa della provincia di Latina è di 245 abitanti/kmq con una variabilità di 722 abitanti/kmq nel comune di Gaeta e di 17 abitanti/kmq nel comune di Campodimele. La provincia di Latina si caratterizza per una popolazione giovane con un’età media di 42,7 anni e un indice di vecchiaia (i.v.) pari a 133 il più basso del Lazio. Seppur più lento rispetto alle altre province laziali, è comunque emergente il progressivo invecchiamento della popolazione dovuto alla diminuzione del tasso di natalità e al contemporaneo aumento della sopravvivenza e speranza di vita. Dall’analisi degli indicatori di struttura della popolazione per zone altimetriche emerge che le classi d’età più giovani dai 15 ai 64 anni prevalgono in pianura e in collina. In montagna e nelle isole prevale la popolazione di età superiore ai 65 anni.Il territorio dell’Azienda Unità Sanitaria Locale di Latina è organizzato in 5 Distretti Sanitari. Il Distretto 1 si caratterizza per un territorio prevalentemente pianeggiante, una popolazione giovane e un’ elevata presenza di stranieri, che nel comune di Aprilia raggiunge l’11,2% della popolazione.

The current water supply systems rely on the shipping of water from the mainland, with relevant fall backs in terms of water price and CO2 emissions. On the other hand the recur to local desalination raises the other issue in minor islands: energy supply. In this respect, the use of renewable energy appears to be the most natural option to the power mix pending the adequate consideration of the environmental constraints. In minor islands, the high environmental quality could often results in more severe landscape conservation rules as such introducing limitations to the most common renewable energy based installations. To this end, this paper discusses the use of near-shore wave energy technologies as a solution to cope with low impact energy generation to the water demand of a typical island in the Tyrrhenian Sea, the island of Ponza. The preliminary assessment focuses on the analysis of the impact on diesel fuel oil use and GHG emissions reduction.
