In a series of to St. Maria Faustina Kowalska in the 1930s, our Lord called for a special feast day to be celebrated on the Sunday after Easter. Today, we know that feast as Sunday, named by St. John Paul II at the canonization of St. Faustina on April 30, 2000. Saint Faustina Kowalska was a Polish nun who wrote a diary of about 600 pages recording the revelations she received about God's mercy. Even before her death in 1938, the devotion to The Divine Mercy had begun to spread. The Divine Mercy image is a depiction of based on a that St. Faustina had in 1931. Jesus is shown in most versions as raising his right hand in blessing and pointing with his left hand on his chest from which flow forth two rays: one red and one white (translucent). The image is symbolic of charity, forgiveness and love of God, referred to as the "Fountain of Mercy”. The Chaplet of Divine Mercy is a set of prayers used as part of the Divine Mercy devotion. They are usually said using a standard set of beads, often at 3 p.m. (the time of Jesus' death), but with a different set of prayers than those used in the Marian Rosary. Knock Basilica will live stream the Divine Mercy Ceremonies on Sunday, 11 April 2021. Ceremonies begin with the Chaplet of Divine Mercy at 2.30pm with Mass at 3pm. Website: www.knockshrine.ie.
