A route is a pattern or path that a football , or run to get open for a pass.

In Out The receiver runs a fly pattern, stops and then turns around. Fly or Go Route

The receiver runs straight up the field towards the endzone.

The receiver runs a fly and then cut hard 90 degrees toward the sideline.
