Short Description This interdisciplinary Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Religion, Philosophy and Ethics Programme provides an excellent opportunity to study major world religions, philosophical traditions, and ethical schools of thought in a systematic and critical way. Students will develop a capability in correlating religious ideas and values, as well as philosophical and ethical thought with both the personal quest for meaning in life and the reflection of contemporary socio-cultural issues, such as life and death, gender equality and social justice. They can understand more about the human person itself and human culture through a comparative and interdisciplinary study of different religious and philosophical traditions, showing the vast range of human response to various life problems, such as life and death, meaning of life, and social justice from ancient times to the contemporary world.

Unique Features

First Religion, Philosophy and Ethics Programme in Hong Kong

The programme, specialising in three different but closely related disciplines of religion, philosophy, and ethics, is the first-of-its-kind in Hong Kong. Religion, Philosophy and Ethics (RPE) is a multidisciplinary programme and in fact one of the flourishing programmes in the international trend in recent decades. Examples include the RPE programme at King’s College London and University of Nottingham in the UK.

Four Study Areas

Foundational courses covering key areas of religion, philosophy and ethics are covered in the second year. In their third to fourth years, students can choose major electives among the four study areas, namely Philosophical Studies, Christian Studies and Comparative Religion, the Interdisciplinary Study of Religion, as well as Ethics and Society. The multiple foci of the programme would be able to cater for the diverse interests of students. Students can choose to declare or not a concentration in one of the four study areas at the end of their second year of study.

Critical Thinking

We emphasise nurturing students' abilities in critical thinking, formulating cogent arguments and critically evaluating claims, all of which helps to enhance their reasoning and analytic skills. These are transferable skills which are essential to many professions.

Value Analysis

We emphasise the analysis of underlying moral values, social values, political values and cultural values in current issues, which are diverse, complex and often in conflict with one another. Students are trained to make up their own minds after navigating through a complicated web of ideas.

Excellence in General Education

Our programme provides a channel for achieving the higher goals of Liberal Studies, namely, (a) the cultivation of the ability to analyse complex human problems with intellectual rigor, and (b) the cultivation of practical wisdom for moral

reasoning and impartial value analysis.

The Department organises Summer Internship Programme for our students since 2002 to work in NGOs (Non-governmental Organisations), social enterprises, offices of Legislative Councilors, and institutions from public and private sectors. Students can widen their exposure through working, relate real life to their studies, gain valuable working experience and acquire the ability to identify their career paths after graduation.

Overseas Exchange Programme

Our students have opportunities to study abroad in partner institutions by joining the University's Overseas Exchange Programme.

Career Opportunities

Besides the opportunity of teaching Liberal Studies or Ethics and Religious Studies in secondary schools, graduates of this programme are well qualified to work in other professions, including social services, media, business, religious organisations as well as civil services.

Short Description This programme offers two majors: Journalism and Digital Media & Public Relations and Advertising.

A. Journalism and Digital Media Major

This major offers three concentrations. The Chinese Journalism concentration aims to prepare students for a career in Chinese-language media, while the International Journalism concentration is geared to those who plan to work for international media that operate in English. The Data and Media Communication concentration, which is jointly offered with the Department of Computer Science, aims to train digital journalists with advanced computer skills, notably in data visualization and analytics. All choices share Major Core and Major Elective Courses dealing with the activities and responsibilities of print, broadcast and internet journalists. Each choice requires bilingualism, but stresses the particular language and professional skills appropriate for the specialisation.

Subject to resource and quota constraints, all students have the option of adopting a secondary stream: Broadcast Journalism, Financial Journalism or General Stream, each with relevant courses. At the end of the programme, every student has to produce a final-year project that integrates their conceptual and practical journalism knowledge.

B. Public Relations and Advertising Major

This major offers three concentrations. The Advertising and Branding concentration offers training in strategic planning, brand storytelling and concept expression. It prepares students to present ideas in an innovative and socially responsible way for effective brand communication and promotion. The Organizational Communication concentration focuses on developing students' expressive, analytical, and multimedia skills to design and carry out effective internal communication for employee engagement. Students of the Public Relations concentration will acquire both the critical understanding and relevant skills to develop successful careers in strategic communication, public affairs, social responsibility, media relations, crisis communication and digital public relations across different sectors (i.e. business, government or non-profit organisations).

Short Description Programme Vision Developments within the visual arts in the last century have introduced new processes and situations, which have resulted in an expanded notion of creative practice beyond the traditional concepts of art and/or design, bringing forward new practices that are no longer based upon strictly distinguished disciplines or particular media, but are rather a hybrid of many. Accordingly, the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Visual Arts Programme operates in the interdisciplinary area of creative practice that lies across and between media, thus it does not distinguish between fine arts and design. Instead at the Academy of Visual Arts we consider all creative disciplines as equally valuable outlets for creative ideas and concepts.

Teaching Philosophy The Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Visual Arts Programme at the Academy of Visual Arts is a professional degree that focuses on intensive practice-led work in the visual arts supported by a programme in General Education. It emphasises creativity, versatility, and intelligent articulation, thus enabling its graduates to enter professional, studio-based careers in such fields as studio arts, design, and/or craft after earning the degree. Our BA-students have the opportunity to develop technical competencies, informed aesthetic judgment, and an understanding of the context in which contemporary work is created, rooted in the ever-shifting cultural climate of creative production.

Programme Structure The Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Visual Arts Programme is a comprehensive study programme in visual arts that incorporates subjects from across the scope of fine arts, design, craft and art theory. As a guiding principle of the programme students will progress from breadth to depth over the time of study. Accordingly upon entry to the programme and completion of the required introductory courses, all students may choose electives that match with their personal preferences, their talent, and/or professional career intentions. Based on their choices in Year 2 they will further choose their courses in Year 3 and Year 4, thereby gradually developing a focus in their studies, which will finally articulate in one of two available programme concentrations:

- Craft & Design (CD); or - Studio & Media Arts (SMA).

Student Learning Experiences

We require all students of the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Visual Arts programme to undertake a self-organised non-credit-bearing work experience (internship, work placement, or similar) during their time of study. The work experience links classroom theory to professional practice and provides the student with learning experiences beyond the academic programme. Such experiences are invaluable for the students’ professional and personal development, giving them the opportunity to experience the wider arenas of the creative and cultural sectors.

Career Opportunities

The majority our graduates are full-time employed, work in their own businesses or as freelancers. Among the fulltime/self-employed graduates, the greater part works in the creative and cultural sectors, with a significant proportion also in visual arts education, or in public relations and communication, marketing or research.

Short Description The aim of the programme is to nurture the next-generation business leaders with HKBU - JS2910 Page 67 / 86 Last Modified on 24 Sep 2021 (9:26 am) JOINT UNIVERSITY PROGRAMMES ADMISSIONS SYSTEM 2022 Application for Admission Hong Kong Baptist University - Programme Information

Short Description The aim of the programme is to nurture the next-generation business leaders with the latest technical know-how to succeed in fast-changing technologies for business. Innovation and technology (I&T) development has been among the top priorities of the HKSAR Government. Manpower requirements in the sector are expected to increase by more than the average manpower requirements of the overall Hong Kong economy. In particular, future development of Hong Kong in the direction of a "smart economy" is expected to create related job demand and business opportunities.

Graduates from traditional computer science programmes need solid training in Business to cope with the fast-changing landscape of business and information technologies, whereas graduates from traditional business school programmes need better skills in the use of big data and real-time analytics to support business decisions. The programme aims to bridge these gaps by integrating Computer Science skills and knowledge of business applications. It provides students with the training in advanced programming and data-analytics skills, as well as broadens their awareness in business applications of these skills.

Unique Features

The programme is co-offered by the Faculty of Science (Department of Computer Science) and the School of Business (Department of Economics and Department of Finance and Decision Sciences). The programme is designed with overseas and/or local data analytics internship.

Student Learning Experiences

Students can opt for international exchange to diversify their learning experiences. Students are able to undertake internship to gain Fintech work experience. Students are able to join an industry mentoring scheme to learn from data analytics professionals or practitioners.

Career Opportunities

We expect our graduates' skills to be attractive to many employers: they can start their careers as business communicators, data scientists, data developers, data engineers, database administrators, financial analysts, market researchers, and other IT-related professionals or engage in financial services jobs. The training in this programme would also facilitate their ventures into launching their own businesses.

Short Description This is a future-focused programme which enables students to choose their own personalised learning pathway. It is designed for students who aspire to make a difference in the world through various means, such as entrepreneurship, research, advocacy, invention and performance.

Humankind is facing a more unpredictable future as technological advancement has brought disruptive changes and global problems are becoming more complex and serious. Young people need to be more adaptable, resourceful and creative in meeting future challenges.

The curriculum is made up of two major components. Firstly, in the solution-based learning modules, students will go through an active and exploratory intellectual journey consisting of cycles of problem-solving. The problems are contextualised in the real-life settings and students will work in groups under the guidance of their teachers and external specialists. Secondly, students will complete a disciplinary major which gives them in-depth knowledge in a specific domain of their choice and prepares them for further study.

The programme is open to students from all academic backgrounds.

Unique Features

The solution-based learning modules are based on a block design with students being immersed in one set of coherent learning activities around a problem at a time. It is student-centered, solution-based, guided, and aims to facilitate and provide deep learning. In the early years of the programme, the problems will be smaller, more well-defined and there will be more faculty guidance. As students proceed, the problems will be bigger, less well-defined and students will become more independent with less faculty supervision. Examples include findings ways to provide support to care takers of elderly people (Year 1 or 2), revitalization of a heritage (Year 3) and how to feed the world population (Year 4). Students will choose the problems in the solution-based learning modules, as well as the approaches to solve these problems. The programme will give students ample autonomy and flexibility in choosing their modules and study pathway.

Student Learning Experiences

Students will benefit from a number of guided self-learning pedagogies in the programme such as service-learning, collaborative learning and research-led learning. Depending on the problems they choose, they will work intensely with community partners, professionals, artists and entrepreneurs. In addition to joining internships and exchange outside Hong Kong, they will work with overseas students and advisors in joint projects and learning activities such as summer schools.

Career Opportunities

Graduates will be resourceful and innovative problem-solvers and have a dedicated personal mission. They may become entrepreneurs, consultants, researchers or artists. Their skills and abilities will enable them to take on multiple careers which will be the trend in the future society, as well as jobs or industries that are yet to emerge.
