The University rf Dayton News Release UNIVERSITY OF DAYTON SELECTED FOR FIRST EDITION OF BARRON'S 300 DAYTON, , June 11, 1990--The University of Dayton has been selected for inclusion in the premiere edition of BARRON'S 300: Best Buys in College Education. The guide is expected in bookstores nationwide by August 1. "At these schools, students continually report that they are getting their money's worth in terms of faculty attention, inspiring and useful programs, and personal and professional development," according to Grace Freedson, a spokesperson for Barron's. "These 300 schools are the best values in higher education." In 1989, author Lucia Solorzano researched colleges and universities across the nation that provide quality academic programs at prices below the national average. Criteria included: tuition rate as compared with the average rate for all colleges, those in the region and those of similar academic emphasis; average test scores of entering freshman; percent of faculty with Ph.D.s; data on room and board; and percent of students who graduate and go on to seek higher degrees. A dozen other colleges and universities 1n Ohio are also included in the guide: Antioch University, , Franciscan University of Steubenville, Heidelberg College, , , , , , The , Otterbein College and . The University of Dayton is also featured in two other nationally recognized publications: The Fiske Guide to Colleges 1990, edited by Edward B. Fiske, education writer for the New York Times and u.s. News & World Report's special report on "America's Best Colleges." Approximately 11,000 undergraduate and graduate students currently attend the University of Dayton, which is Ohio's largest independent university and the nation's eighth largest Catholic university. -30-
