She invited me to sit in a comfortable chair which apparently was always positioned for visitors who want to discuss things with her. Her shop is called 3 Sisters and a Trunk. Marie has owned a Speedway business for 17½ years. Her first business was called “Etc.” and was located at 16th and Lynhurst for 14 of those years. She closed it when she turned 70 because she thought it was time. She quickly discovered it wasn’t and opened her current busi- ness 3½ years ago. Marie is an excellent conversationalist. Others visited while I was in the chair. Marie found a stool for one of them. It was Tim Gropp, the Ex- ecutive Director of The Speedway Redevelopment Commission. He had Businesses on the north end of Main Street brought her some parking permits, and, as we asked him some Wilshaw questions, he stayed to discuss them. Marie anticipates 18 months of pain with the construction. She thinks it won’t affect her business negatively, but she, like other own- ers on Main, are concerned about others. Main Street business owners argued against the adjusted plan with its reduced parking. Marie stated, “The first plan was good, the adjusted plan is not. She also feels he is doing all he can to minimize the construction pain. Tim has been working hard to find additional parking places. Jon Mummert) to hold an art exhibit for the 5th and 6th grade students who choose to donate their artwork to the Centre!
