For the member who transferred their subs and payment for a new logbook, from the Police Credit Union, on the 10th June, please contact Pam Wilton as no name was used as reference so she cannot issue your receipt/membership for 2020-21.-the only anonymous payment we have had this year.

I hope you are all well and coping with life as we continue to endure the continued Covid-19 situation. With restrictions easing, the committee is keen to resume normal MAPS activities as soon as possible, however with social distancing still in place, we must consider the wellbeing of all and comply with our obligations. You will see that a BBQ is planned, as the first cautious step towards normality!

I would like to extend my gratitude to Pam, Erica and Dickie for their exceptional efforts in managing the membership and logbook renewals. I am told that the vast majority were completed without complication, with only a few left to follow up. So overall, good job by all.

Regards Peter Anderson

Update from the Secretary

As a committee we have met, under COVID 19 rules, and all of us are looking forward to the resumption of „normality‟ Just a few updates; I have spoken with the school and after July 20 I will visit and measure the hall to work out numbers allowed. The school is quite happy for us to resume meetings with social distancing adhered to. We will not have to pay for extra cleaning but, as we do now, make sure that it is left in a clean condition including toilets. Further information at a later date. Under current restrictions AGMs can be delayed by up to six months and so there is no pressure to resume meetings too early. The membership secretary and I rang all members with on historic registration who had not paid by June 10 to make sure that they had, in fact, received renewal notices. We could not contact three members because of phone number problems. We only found a couple that we needed to resend the information. Most members had renewed their membership by that date with three weeks of June still left and we thank them for such prompt payment. Members without cars on historic registration can renew at any time. Thanks again to Pam Wilton, Erica Andrews and Dickie Penhall for their continuing work re membership renewals and log book updates. I have enjoyed my trips to Edithburgh to give Pam renewals that have come to the MAPS PO box rather than to her. The Minlaton bakery is worth visiting on the way! Some clubs have only sent out renewals in the last week or so and may be under pressure to meet the deadline of June 30. This just shows how efficient our hardworking group is with over 80% renewed. If you have not renewed your membership by the beginning of the next financial year i.e. July 1 the club is obliged to inform DPTI that historical registration no longer applies to your car(s). Historical registration is a privilege and we have one of the best systems in Australia. We do we want to be deregistered as a club because we haven‟t followed the rules. Thanks to Mike Osborne who has donated a display cabinet for the committee room. We have a number of trophies that can be displayed. We are looking at a new shade with logo for outdoor runs such as the local shows and will keep you posted on that. Andy Ewins and Ron Mudge are going through our photos for an update of the display in the Maitland Information Centre. These photos which Mike has had will be transferred to a MAPS hard drive for perpetuity. (Events from 2003 on, 13,000. Mike) Marg Bastian

FROM THE MEMBERSHIP SECRETARY PAM WILTON MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL AND LOGBOOK CHECKS To fulfil the state government’s Club Registration Code of Practice requirements, members MUST remain financial and have logbooks/regos checked, so we can continue to enjoy driving our cars. The membership renewals and logbook checks have been done remotely this year. Remember, if your subs aren’t paid and logbooks and registration papers checked, by June 30, and your vehicle/s are on DPTI Club Registration through MAPS, those vehicle/s are technically unregistered and cannot be driven on public roads, even if your DPTI registration has time left on it. Also, if you don’t renew your MAPS membership on time, the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure will be informed be let know, and it will revoke your vehicle’s conditional registration. 'Those unpaid on June 10, with cars on Club Rego with MAPS, were phoned to ensure they had received their renewal forms. If, for some reason, you haven’t received your renewal notice , call me on 0417 808 323 so I can get it to you. Pam Wilton. Ed’s note NB LOG BOOKS SENT TO THE HRO, arriving AFTER JULY 1ST WILL BE SUBJECT TO PROCESSING DELAYS DUE TO THE HRO’S ABSENCE. NO NEW LOG BOOKS CAN BE ISSUED DURING THIS TIME. AUTHORISED OFFICERS ( AS LISTED ON PAGE 2) CAN SIGN EXISTING LOG BOOKS WITH SPACES FOR RENEWAL. Better still, do it now and as the old song goes, “Make it Easy on Yourself”- and others!

KEEP YOUR EYES PEELED FOR ONE OF THESE! Pictured to the top of photograph, supplied by Carol Wilkin, the Peel P50 is a three-wheeled originally made from 1962 to 1965 by the Peel Engineering Company on the Isle of Man. It was listed in the 2010 Guinness World Records as the smallest production car ever made. It had no reverse gear, but a handle at the rear allows the very lightweight car to be manoeuvred physically when required. Fewer than 30 original cars exist today making it one of the rarest cars in the World. Famously TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson drove on Top Gear edition.
