It promotes life-long learning and fos- ters the development of the whole person. The faculty and students support one another in the search for and the commu- nication of truth . The university is open to thoughtful innovation that serves ever more effectively the spiritual and material needs of people. The curriculum offers students an integrated program of liberal arts and professional studies that includes a global perspective and an emphasis on social justice and com- munity service. The University of the Incarnate Word is a Catholic institution that welcomes to its community persons of diverse backgrounds, in the belief that their respectful interaction advances the discovery of truth, mutual understanding, self-realiza- tion, and the common good. THE UNIVERSITY The University is located on a 154-acre site, formerly the estate of noted San Antonio philanthropist and businessman Colonel George W. Brackenridge. His villa, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, still stands on the campus. The southern portion of the original Brackenridge estate joins the University along Hildebrand Avenue, forming Brackenridge Park. The headwaters of the San Antonio River begin on the campus, and have provided fascinating archaeological finds related to native Americans and the Conquistadors, and to more recent attempts at set- tlement. The river separates the main campus from the newly developed recreation and athletic complex. www.cardinalathletics.com 3 2012 UIW BASEBALL DANIEL SULLIVAN FIELD Sullivan Field on campus is a venue where the Cardinals are pretty tough to handle for visiting teams. At the end of the 2011 diamond season, the Cardinals had played 589 games on the field. UIW has won 402 times against 187 losses for a homefield advantage of 68 per cent.

Cincinnati Reds Press Clippings December 4, 2015 THIS DAY IN REDS HISTORY 1988 - The Reds sign Rick Mahler of the Braves as a free-agent. Mahler would play two seasons in Cincinnati, going 16-19 with a 4.00 ERA during 355.1 innings pitched. MLB.COM Redsfest set to connect organization with fans By Mark Sheldon / MLB.com / [email protected] / @m_sheldon CINCINNATI -- It takes more than several days to convert the Duke Energy Convention Center into a baseball paradise for Reds fans, and the finishing touches of that effort were being made Thursday for 2015 Redsfest this weekend. Work crews were assembling displays, booths, elements for the main stage and more. Analogically fitting, the Reds themselves have a roster that is being worked on this winter for a rebuilding effort into 2016 -- and stretching possibly into 2017. Cincinnati, which is coming off a 98-loss, last-place 2015 season, is actively exploring trades of some key players soon approaching free agency -- closer Aroldis Chapman is drawing plenty of interest -- as it focuses on the long term. Meanwhile, events like Redsfest, and the Reds Caravan in January, remain vital for the club to promote itself, its message and to provide a more personal relationship between fans and players. "It's a reminder of why we do the things we do, to stay connected in the community and not just hide and stop talking to the media and put your head in the sand until it all gets better," Reds chief operating officer Phil Castellini said. "These fans are with us through thick and thin, and we're going to be there for them.

Heroes and Rallies Baseball Setup Pick two teams to go head to head, and fill out your lineups on the scoresheet. Each team receives 8 skill assignments to give to individual players. All of the skill assignments listed below must be used within your starting lineup for a total of 8. A player may possess two assignments if you wish. Rate your lineup by placing the appropriate notation beside a player’s name on the scoresheet. 1) star hitter (H) 2) star slugger (S) 3) star runner (R) 4) star fielder (F) 5) poor hitter (H-) 6) weak hitter (S-) 7) slow runner (R-) 8) poor fielder (F-) Once a player has a skill assignment, he cannot transfer it to another player. There is one additional skill assignment available for an ace pitcher (X). You may, however, choose not to start one. Make any pitcher a poor hitter as well (H-), so there will be two poor hitters if a pitcher is in the lineup. Game Play Roll the dice for each player who comes up to bat, reading the colored die first and the white die second. If a result occurs on the Batting chart which displays an image of a ballplayer, the inning is considered finished with no further scoring. Draw an X in the box on the scoresheet representing the current hitter’s at-bat. When his team next comes up to bat, the next player in the lineup will hit. If the color of a chart result corresponds to the color of the skill assignment of the player who is currently up to bat, the result changes to the one shown on the bottom of the Batting chart.
