A matchday one visit to Stade de Lyon gives GNK Dinamo Zagreb a chance to put more distance between themselves and the 7-1 drubbing they suffered at the hands of Olympique Lyonnais in 2011/12. Previous meetings • Lyon won home and away against the Croatian side five years ago, first posting a 2-0 victory in France at their former home, Stade de Gerland.

• The lineups on 27 September 2011 were: Lyon: Lloris, Réveillère, B Koné, Lovren, Cissokho, Gonalons, Källström, Briand, Grenier (Pied 79), Bastos, Gomis (Lacazette 63). Dinamo: Kelava, Leko, Vida, Tonel, Ibáñez, Badelj (Tomečak 46), Calello, Pokrivač (Rukavina 74), Kovačić (Šimunić 46), Sammir, Beqiraj. • Bafétimbi Gomis and Bakary Koné scored the goals and Gomis enjoyed a wonderful night in the return – claiming the fastest ever UEFA Champions League hat-trick in eight minutes either side of half-time as Lyon celebrated their biggest ever victory in the competition. • Dinamo had sent off but took the lead through Mateo Kovačić before Gomis, who went on to score four, got to work. Maxime Gonalons, Lisandro and Jimmy Briand also registered in the 7-1 win to send Lyon through to the last 16 while the Croatian side finished bottom of the group without a single point. Match background Lyon • In their 14th campaign it will be hard not to improve on last season's record when, returning to the UEFA Champions League after a three-year absence, Lyon lost all three home games, scoring only once. Their only victory came on matchday six, 2-0 at Valencia CF, with their place as Group H's bottom side already confirmed. • The Ligue 1 runners-up began last year with a 1-1 draw at KAA Gent to stretch their unbeaten matchday one sequence to five games (W2 D3). Dinamo • Dinamo lost all three away games in last season's group stage, conceding ten goals and scoring only one. They also finished bottom of Group F with three points that all arrived on matchday one in a 2-1 win over Arsenal FC. • The Croatian double winners have failed to qualify from the group stage in all five previous attempts. In fact in all 12 previous UEFA club competition group stages – seven in the UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League – they have yet to make it through to the next phase. • Their away form underpinned Dinamo's progress through this season's qualifying rounds. They won 2-1 at FK Vardar in the second qualifying round (5-3 on aggregate) and 1-0 at FC Dinamo Tbilisi in the next stage (3-0 on aggregate). • After a 1-1 draw at home to FC Salzburg in the play-offs they trailed in Austria until the 87th minute when Junior Fernandes forced extra time. El Arabi Hilal Soudani then completed the victory. Coach and player links • Davor Lovren is the brother of Dejan, who played for Lyon between 2010 and 2013. • Played together: Angelo Henríquez & Rafael (Manchester United FC 2012–2015) • International team-mates: El Arbi Hilal Soudani & Rachid Ghezzal (Algeria) Paulo Machado & Anthony Lopes (Portugal) • Paulo Machado played in France for AS Saint-Étienne in 2008/09 and for Toulouse FC between 2009 and 2012. Match facts Lyon • Lyon's 12-match unbeaten home run ended with Saturday's 3-1 loss to FC Girondins de Bordeaux. • Alexandre Lacazette has scored six in four league games this season. He began with a hat-trick at AS Nancy- Lorraine, then came two penalties against SM Caen. Next time out he hit one as Lyon lost 4-2 at Dijon FCO. • Lyon have registered at least once in each of their last 16 games. • Nabil Fékir, who missed much of last season with a serious knee injury, was ruled out for three weeks at the start of

September as he needed more surgery on his right knee. • Corentin Tolisso scored both goals as France beat Iceland 2-0 in Caen on 6 September in a U21 EURO qualifier. • Lyon lost the French Super Cup 4-1 against Paris Saint-Germain on 6 August in Klagenfurt, Austria. • Christophe Jallet was an unused member of the France squad that finished runners-up to Portugal at UEFA EURO 2016. Dinamo Zagreb • Dinamo's 1-0 loss against NK Osijek on Saturday ended a run of 103 league games unbeaten at home since 31 July 2010. They had been unbeaten in all competitives matches since March, a run of 23 matches. • Dinamo have won their last nine games away from home, scoring 21 and conceding three. • Dinamo were 45 matches without defeat before going down 5-0 at FC Bayern München in last season's UEFA Champions League. The subsequent 2-0 loss in December had been Dinamo's last home defeat before Saturday. • Dinamo lost two key players during the summer: both named Marko and both moving to Italy. Pjaca signed for Juventus and Rog joined Napoli. • El Arbi Hilal Soudani scored twice as Algeria beat Lesotho 6-0 in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying on 4 September.

8 Olympique Lyonnais - GNK Dinamo Zagreb Wednesday 14 September 2016 - 20.45CET (20.45 local time) Match press kit Stade de Lyon, Décines Head coach Bruno Génésio Date of birth: 1 September 1966 Nationality: French Playing career: Olympique Lyonnais (twice), OGC Nice, FC Martigues Coaching career: FCP Arbresle (youth), FC Villefranche, RC Besançon (assistant), RC Besançon, Olympique Lyonnais (assistant coach), Olympique Lyonnais • Lyon-born, he spent the bulk of his playing career as a midfielder with his home-town club, enjoying ten years with Les Gones over two spells. Part of the side that won promotion to Ligue 1 in 1989, Génésio also secured the second division title during his one-year stint at Nice in 1993/94. • Began coaching in 1997, taking charge of local youth team L'Arbresle, near Lyon, before assuming the helm at Villefranche two years later. Hired in 2001, initially as an assistant, Génésio inspired Besançon from the amateur ranks to Ligue 2, but as a head coach suffered relegation twice. • Joined OL backroom staff in 2006 at the request of head coach Gérard Houllier. Génésio started as a scout, then accepted a position with the reserves and steered them to the French championship. A senior coaching staff role followed under Rémi Garde in 2011. • Stayed at the Stade de Gerland to work alongside new manager Hubert Fournier when Garde left at the end of the 2014/15 season. He was then appointed head coach on 24 December 2015 following Fournier's departure. • Guided Lyon from ninth to a second-placed finish following the winter break, clinching a UEFA Champions League group stage berth on matchday 37 with a 6-1 success against rivals AS Monaco FC. Zlatko Kranjčar Date of birth: 15 November 1956 Nationality: Croatian Playing career: NK Dinamo Zagreb, SK Rapid Wien, SKN St Pölten Coaching career: SV Wienerfeld, SK Austria Klagenfurt, NHK Segesta (twice), NK Dinamo Zagreb (three times), FC Linz, NK Slaven Koprivnica, NK Samobor, El-Masry, NK Mura, NK Marsonia, NK Zagreb (twice), HNK Rijeka, , NK Croatia Sesvete (twice), Al-Shaab, DAC 1904 Dunajská Streda, Persepolis FC, Montenegro, Sepahan FC, Al Ahli SC, GNK Dinamo Zagreb • A famously animated coach, Zlatko Kranjčar came to prominence as a forward during a ten-year spell at Dinamo Zagreb. Made over 500 competitive appearances and represented Yugoslavia at international level. • Having left NK Zagreb in 1983 to join his one-time Dinamo coach Otto Barić at Rapid Wien, Kranjčar hung up his boots in 1990 after being capped twice by the newly independent Croatia. • Started his coaching career in Austria, but was drawn back to his homeland, where he was to win titles in two separate spells with his old club. Following spells in Egypt and Slovenia, he pulled off a notable coup by leading NK Zagreb to the 2001/02 Croatian title. • Replaced Barić as Croatia coach in 2004, leading a team including son Niko Kranjčar to the 2006 FIFA World Cup finals. A relatively disappointing showing meant his contract was not renewed after the tournament in Germany. • Coached in the United Arab Emirates, Slovakia and Iran, with Persepolis. Replaced another former Yugoslavia striker, Zoran Filipović, in charge of Montenegro in February 2010, but sacked the following September, returning again to Dinamo Zagreb in July 2016 after three years back in Iran with Sepahan and a short stint at Al Ahli in Doha.

UEFA Champions League: Did you know? • In 2012/13, Chelsea became the first defending champions to fail to get through a group stage since the UEFA Champions League began. (This record, like the others, includes the seasons between 1999/2000 and 2002/03 that featured a second group stage). In 1992/93, Barcelona were the reigning European Champion Clubs' Cup holders and lost 4-3 on aggregate in the second round to CSKA Moskva. • No team has successfully defended the UEFA Champions League trophy, with Milan (1989, 1990) the last club to win consecutive European Cups. Milan (1994, 1995), Ajax (1995, 1996), Juventus (1996, 1997) and Manchester United (2008, 2009) have all returned to the UEFA Champions League final as holders only to lose. • Lazio goalkeeper Marco Ballotta is the oldest player to compete in the UEFA Champions League having featured against Real Madrid on matchday six in 2007/08 aged 43 years and 252 days. Alessandro Costacurta is the oldest outfield player; the Milan defender was 40 years and 211 days when he played against AEK Athens in 2006/07. • Francesco Totti is the oldest player to score in the competition, aged 38 years and 59 days, in Roma's 1-1 draw at CSKA Moskva on 25 November 2014. Ryan Giggs (37 years 290 days) was the previous record holder. • Celestine Babayaro is the youngest player to have appeared; he was 16 years and 87 days when he started for Anderlecht against Steaua Bucureşti on 23 November 1994. He was sent off in the 37th minute. • Peter Ofori-Quaye is the youngest player to have scored in the UEFA Champions League, aged 17 years and 195 days. He found the net in Olympiacos's 5-1 defeat at Rosenborg on 1 October 1997. • Lionel Messi became the first player to score five goals in a match in Barcelona's 7-1 win against Bayer Leverkusen on 7 March 2012, a feat matched by Shakhtar Donetsk's Luiz Adriano at BATE Borisov on 21 October 2014. Eleven more players, also including Messi, have scored four times in a game, most recently Cristiano Ronaldo for Real Madrid CF on matchday six in 2015/16. • Cristiano Ronaldo set a new record for a UEFA Champions League stage with 11 goals in 2015/16, eclipsing his own mark of nine goals in 2013/14, which Luiz Adriano matched in 2014/15. Zlatan Ibrahimović (2013/14), Ruud van Nistelrooy (2004/05), Filippo Inzaghi and Hernán Crespo (both 2002/03) managed eight. • Barcelona have finished as group winners on 17 occasions, two more than Real Madrid and three more than Manchester United and FC Bayern München. • Bayern München (2 April 2013 to 27 November 2013) and Real Madrid (23 April 2014 to 18 February 2015) jointly hold the record for successive wins in the UEFA Champions League proper with ten. Bayern surpassed the previous mark of nine, set by Barcelona between 18 September 2002 and 18 February 2003. Anderlecht's 12 straight defeats (10 December 2003 to 23 November 2005) is also a competition record. • Six teams have recorded six successive victories in a UEFA Champions League group stage: Milan (1992/93), Paris Saint-Germain (1994/95), Spartak Moskva (1995/96), Barcelona (2002/03, first group stage) and Real Madrid (2011/12 and 2014/15). • Seventeen teams have gone through a UEFA Champions League group stage without picking up a single point, most recently Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC in 2015/16. • Real Madrid scored 20 goals in the 2013/14 group stage, equalling the competition record held jointly by Manchester United (1998/99) and Barcelona (2011/12). Barcelona scored 19 times in the 1999/2000 first group stage, a tally matched by Real Madrid in 2011/12 and 2015/16, plus Bayern in 2015/16. • Only Deportivo La Coruña (2004/05) and Maccabi Haifa (2009/10) have failed to score in a group stage. • BATE Borisov conceded 24 goals in 2014/15, a new record. The previous mark, 22, was held by Dinamo Zagreb (2011/12) and Nordsjælland (2012/13); Malmö FF shipped 21 in 2015/16. • No team has ever gone through a UEFA Champions League group stage without conceding a goal. Milan (1992/93), Ajax (1995/96), Juventus (1996/97 and 2004/05), Chelsea (2005/06), Liverpool (2005/06), Villarreal (2005/06), Manchester United (2010/11), Monaco (2014/15) and Paris Saint-Germain (2015/16) all let in just one. • Before their 3-1 win against Sporting Clube de Portugal on matchday six of the 2006/07 campaign, Spartak Moskva went 22 games without a victory in the competition, a mark Steaua Bucureşti surpassed on matchday six in 2013/14. • The lowest total for a team qualifying from the group stage is six points: Zenit in 2013/14 and AS Roma in 2015/16. Since three points for a win was introduced in 1995/96, eight teams have made it through with seven points: Legia Warszawa (1995/96), Dynamo Kyiv (1999/2000), Liverpool (2001/02), Lokomotiv Moskva and eventual finalists Juventus (both 2002/03), Rangers and Werder Bremen (2005/06) and Basel 1893 (2014/15).

• Napoli failed to qualify from their group with 12 points in 2013/14, the highest total of any team not to reach the next stage when the top two in each section progressed. Dynamo Kyiv (1999/2000), Borussia Dortmund (2002/03 – both second group stage), PSV Eindhoven (2003/04), Olympiacos and Dynamo Kyiv (both 2004/05), Werder Bremen (2006/07), Manchester City (2011/12), Chelsea and CFR 1907 Cluj (both 2012/13), Benfica (2013/14) and FC Porto (2015/16) all missed out with ten points. • Only two teams have ever won the UEFA Champions League on home soil: Borussia Dortmund (1997, final in Munich) and Juventus (1996, final in Rome), while Manchester United lost the 2011 final in London and 12 months later Bayern were beaten in the showpiece in their own stadium, the Fußball Arena München.
