He also mentioned special thanks to:  Craig Dickson – the Old Maroons representative on the Rugby Club Executive and also making a major contribution to the Clubhouse Insurance and repairs activities  Julie (JP) Patterson and Jenny Barr – Editors of the Old Maroons Newsletter  Lindsay North, Treasurer - for keeping track of the financials

Activities for the year were then summarized and included:  The continued coordination of the 300-point sponsorship for the senior men’s team. An update on Old Maroon – Gilbert Enoka

Gilbert played in our 2nd senior side in 1977, coached by Brian Weenick and Peter Duncan. He was a good lineout forward following on from his successes in NZ Volleyball.

Gilbert Enoka, a mainstay of the All Blacks management team for many years, is now working fulltime for New Zealand Rugby (NZRU) in an expanded role. NZRU CEO Steve Tew said Enoka, who has been involved with the All Blacks since 2000, joined New Zealand Rugby fulltime from April 1, 2015.

At the time, Tew said "Gilbert will work with our other national teams in the mental skills arena and assist with structures that support performing under pressure. He will also work across the rugby landscape in the area of leadership."

All Blacks Head Coach has welcomed Enoka's new role, saying it was a truer reflection of what people did in the management team and gave the group more agility and flexibility to grow.

Enoka, who was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit this year for his services to rugby and sport psychology, said he was looking forward to his new fulltime role.

University and key partnerships

In February of last year, the University of Canterbury announced key partnerships with the Crusaders, and Tactix, with a community engagement and a performing arts initiative still in development. “These partnerships are a carefully considered and modest programme that will help drive UC’s stronger engagement with and the Canterbury community and schools, using existing redirected promotional budget,” University Vice-Chancellor Dr Rod Carr says.

“Sport is a massive part of Canterbury’s DNA, and a big part of what we do at UC, through our sports coaching programme, health sciences, bio-mechanics, and sports psychology. Around 2500 students participate in UC sports clubs and societies and around 8000 are members of the UC Rec Centre.

Crusaders chief executive Hamish Riach says: “We are thrilled to have the University of Canterbury on board as a Crusaders partner, and see the University Page 5 of 6 as a great fit for the secondary schools rugby competition. The UC Championship and the new UC Cup will help to develop the next generation of rugby stars, just as the University of Canterbury is developing our next generation of talent in numerous other fields.”

Through communication via Tracey Nelson and the good efforts of John Wright, we managed to get a UC jersey to Old Maroon Brendon O'Connor
