PUBLIC LECTURE THE PARADOX

Professor Jeffrey Flier, former Dean of Medicine at , presents a special talk on why medical science hasn’t mitigated the global obesity epidemic.

In the last 40 years, despite extraordinary new insights into the of body weight regulation, the prevalence of obesity has been steadily increasing worldwide. On top of its own health implications, obesity causes the development of other diseases – such as cardiovascular disease, and cancer – and remains an intractable health condition.

Will we identify genes that protect against obesity? Identify new therapeutics to treat obesity? Or might we discover something completely unexpected that will turn obesity research on its head?

Hosted by Monash’s Biomedicine Discovery Institute (BDI) and Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, Professor Flier will delve deep into what we already know about obesity, the challenges it presents to the global healthcare network, and offer his learned predictions on where obesity research may be EVENT DETAILS headed in the next 10 years.
