Textboxes 1948-2013”, Contains, in Year/Page Order, All of That Text That I Added to the Several Thousand Pages of Those 64 Yearbooks Bluejay Textboxes 1948 - 2013 What is a Textbox? When I began scanning Bluejays in order to preserve them in a digital format, it occurred to me that it would be useful to be able to “search” those scanned pages by computer once they were reassembled into electronic Bluejays/Yearbooks/Annuals. I tried using OCR (optical character recognition) software to “pull” the original text from the scans, but initial results were highly questionable with corrections usually taking longer than actually retyping the original text. By that time I had also come to realize that the names of students, faculty, staff in the original text were often wrong, misspelled, or multiply-presented (i.e., B., Bob, Bobby, R., Robt. Robert) for the same person, so I determined that my main goal in presenting searchable text was to capture and then to “correct” all of the names in the Bluejays in order to retain at least that information for the future. Therefore, I added a “textbox” to the top of each scanned page, a box into which I manually typed all of the “corrected” names and a limited amount of the other information originally appearing on each and every page of the scanned Yearbooks. That textbox information can be seen, usually in a light gray font, at the top of each page. This current document, “Bluejay Textboxes 1948-2013”, contains, in year/page order, all of that text that I added to the several thousand pages of those 64 yearbooks. I have generated other documents/reports elsewhere that will usually better serve your research needs for information related to the names, the people who appeared in the pages of the Bluejays over the years. This current information, unformatted and sometimes difficult to understand, is meant more for those who want to try to squeeze out every bit of information that I chose, at the time – rested or tired, with mood-swings, during interruptions and everything – to include. There are many questions that cannot be answered from this data. By way of illustration, however, here are a couple that can: When did the VHS Hi-Y Club go out of existence? When did the VHS Dance Team start up? (Hint: requires two searches) Enjoy! (or at least don’t curse me out too badly for my “on the fly” decisions!) Olivier Poulin There won't be any opening remarks. We're going to go straight to question. First question will be from Terry Jones, right up front. Question I don't know if, in the history of championship sports, there have ever been two coaches that ever once got traded for each other, so let's start there. Who won the trade? Orlondo Steinauer I don't think I was here when the trade happened. I think I was in Miami. Mike O'Shea You were in Miami. Orlondo Steinauer Yeah. It all worked out because I think when you got back we ended up on the same team anyway. Mike O'Shea We did. Orlondo Steinauer Hamilton won that trade. It's so long ago. Mike O'Shea No. No thoughts. Question After the win in Saskatchewan, you and Zack Collaros looked to be the two calmest people at the stadium. What keeps you calm at times of intense emotion after winning a west final, as an example? What is it in you that keeps you that calm? Mike O'Shea Well, I think trusting the players.
