His feature flm The Full Monty was Oscar-nominated for Best Picture, Best Directing, and Best Music (for which it won) and it also broke box offce records back in 1997 when it became the highest grossing flm in the UK and attracted worldwide acclaim and launched a Broadway musical. The roots of Peter Cattaneo’s artistic style and creative approach can be seen in his short flm which also received an Academy Award nomination. It is unique for a successful short flm in that it explores a complex character arc over a larger span of time in only 11 minutes. The story begins to reveal its deeper magnitude through various snippets of people writing letters to each other and each character makes a big impression in a small amount of time through the use of quirky qualities and well-chosen words. Peter’s observant eye is what lends his flms such a human authenticity when directing actors to create unique character portraits, as with the talented cast in Military Wives. WE ARE HONORED TO WELCOME BOTH PETER CATTANEO AND DAME KRISTIN SCOTT THOMAS TO ANNAPOLIS.

64 2020 Annapolis Film Festival www.annapolisflmfestival.org 65 Lynn McReynolds & Bert Carp Susan and Greg Walker The mission of the Annapolis Film Festival has been formally extended through the establishment of the Annapolis Film Society (AFS), which will host screenings and other film-related events all year long. AFS is dedicated to celebrating the art of film, to using its power and magic to bring together our diverse community in thoughtful dialogue, and to partnering with other artistic organizations and business leaders to foster ongoing conversations.

Current offerings are the Founders Circle and General Membership. Individu- als and couples who wish to support independent filmmaking and make a major commitment to AFS will want to become a member of the Founders Circle, which includes exclusive benefits and perpetual recognition for a one-time payment of $2,500. Membership in the Founders Circle is only available until June 30, 2020. Additional membership opportunities may be offered following the close of the Founders Circle. Please visit www.annap- olisfilmfestival.org for more information and updates on AFS memberships and benefits. AFS is delighted to recognize the following members of the Founders Circle, whose generous support is gratefully acknowledged (includes memberships through March 4, 2020).
