New York, Morgan Library October 25, 2013 – February 2, 2014

- Leonardo’s genius lives again in this invaluable and delicate manuscript: synthesis of art and technology. - Only 18 pages long where he noted his observations on the flight of birds and envisioned the construction of flying machines. - The manuscript dates back to 1505 and went through many hands, disassembled and then reassembled, before coming into the hands of the House of Savoy, which put the book in the Royal Library of where it has been conserved until today. - Interactive exhibit: 4 interactive computer stations offer a view of each page with side-by-side English translation; a video by state broadcaster RAI conveys the story of the Codex, including its voyage to Mars on NASA's Curiosity rover.

Italy – U.S. research in Nanotechnologies: Toward Sustainable Energy New York, The Italian Academy for Advanced studies in America, Columbia University October 2-3, 2013

- Columbia University houses two prestigious centers, namely the “Energy Frontier Research Center” and the “ Nanoscale Science and Engineering Center”. - Perfect setting for a workshop on nanotechnologies and sustainable energy gathering both Italian and American scientists.

- The discovery and study of sunspots by Galileo Galilei, father of Modern Science, comprise the theme of this special event dedicated to the Italian astronomer, physicist and mathematician.

- Organized by the Galileo Museum of , the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Harvard University, and the National Institute of Astrophysics, with the involvement of NASA.

Global Health 2013 Bilateral Italy-U.S. scientific collaboration in rare diseases Fairfax, George Mason University, October 7, 2013 Washington DC, Embassy of Italy, October 8, 2013

- Seminars and meetings aimed at moving forward a special bilateral agreement, currently in an advanced stage, between the National Center for Rare Diseases (managed by Italy's Istituto Superiore di Sanità) and the Office of Rare Disease Research (U.S. National Institutes of Health).

- The symposium explores the latest advances in scientific research devoted to the field of cultural heritage, focusing on the contribution of Italian researchers and on Italy-US collaborations. - To showcase and celebrate the state of the art in scientific research on cultural heritage, and expand further Italy-US collaborations and scientific exchanges. - Organized in collaboration with the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei and the National Academy of Sciences, with the support of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, the European project CHARISMA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art – New York, and the National Gallery of Art - Washington.

- The Gala presents a selection of the most well known and fascinating pieces of the 19th century repertoire with contemporary choreography and artistic direction by Roberto Bolle. - Roberto Bolle is currently a principal dancer with and also holds guest artist status with and Theatre Ballet, making regular appearances with both companies. - In 1996 he was promoted to Principal Dancer at La Scala. He left that position when he was 21 to pursue a freelance career. - Since then he has danced for the Royal Ballet, the , the National Ballet of Canada, the , the , the Staatsoper in Berlin, the , the Staatsoper in Dresden, the Bavarian State Opera, the Internationale Maifestspiele Wiesbaden, the 8th and 9th International Ballet Festivals in Tokyo, the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, the in , and the City Theatre in Florence.

In the 1800s, these musical pieces were made popular in the form of transcriptions and adaptations. The authors of these transcriptions, fantasies, or paraphrases, are well-known virtuosos who used the famous opera themes to display their talent as composers and performers. Many of these pieces lay forgotten until they were recently rediscovered by the Cameristi della Scala.

Story of a puppet”, one of the Italy’s most famous literary masterpieces. - Tour successfully started in January in Los Angeles, and has continued all across the United States throughout the year (Santa Barbara, San Francisco, New York, Hartford, New Britain, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Houston, Miami, Charleston, Providence, Pittsburgh). - Tale often portrayed for children, has a philosophical significance: a story of humanity inscribed on a piece of wood, which marks the relationship between freedom and obedience, between father and son.

Orchestra Italiana del Cinema presents Beyond La Dolce Vita:A visual-symphonic homage to Italian Cinema Ucla, Royce Hall, Los Angeles November 22, 2013 - The expert musicianship of the Orchestra Italiana del Cinema and high-definition film projection combine to form an unforgettable multimedia concert. - One of the most influential filmmakers of the 20th century, Federico Fellini, is best known in the English-speaking world for La Dolce Vita, a film which has become synonymous with the culture of Italy.

- For the first time in the United States, the Orchestra of the Academy of the Teatro alla Scala performs an extravaganza of Italian masterpieces. - Works ranging from Rossini, Puccini and Verdi to Italy’s and America’s greatest symphonies. - Conducted by Maestro Daniele Rustioni, one of Italy’s youngest and most highly acclaimed conductors.

Carlos Museum of Emory University August 24 - November 17, 2013 - The Carlos Museum presents an extraordinary journey to Rome through an exciting exhibition on the representations of the Eternal City. - Maps, views, and books on Rome by great masters of the sixteenth, seventeenth, and eighteenth centuries offer a unique experience of the city. - Over 130 works of art are showcased in three major sections- Antichità, Teatro, and Magnificenza.

Retrieved treasures: Madonna di Senigallia by Piero Della Francesca Boston, MFA, New York, MET September – March 2014

- One of Piero della Francesca’s most remarkable masterpieces. - The painting (oil on panel) was stolen in 1975 from Palazzo Ducale in Urbino and retrieved in Locarno in 1976. - The exhibit is made possible thanks to the collaboration with the Comando Carabinieri Tutela Patrimonio Culturale, which works relentlessly to retrieve Italian masterpieces stolen or illicitly removed from the country.

- The exhibition celebrates Sicilian culture of the fifth to third centuries BC, when its art, architecture, theater, poetry, philosophy, and science left an original and enduring stamp on both mainland Greece and Rome. - Over 150 objects bear witness to the military and athletic victories, religious and civic rituals, opulent lifestyles, and intellectual attainments that shaped the western Greek world. - All of the objects in the recently closed exhibition at the J. Paul Getty Museum, most notably the Mozia Charioteer and Phiale Mesomphalos, are on view at the Cleveland Museum of Art.

The Art of Handmade Paper Washington DC, Embassy of Italy November 2013

- The exhibition features antique filigrees from the Zonghi Archive in Fabriano and handmade paper works by American and Italian artists. - It is organized in collaboration with the Fabriano Museum of Paper, the Library of Congress and the Corcoran Gallery.

- Dying Gaul is a remarkable sculpture of the first half of the 3rd century BC.

- The suffering Gaul is portrayed in the moment that precedes the lead of his death.

- Part of the project Dream of Rome: intended to serve as an ideal bridge between Italy and the United States through the immortality of culture.

- On the occasion of Dream of Rome, in 2011 the Capitoline Venus, loaned by the Capitoline Museum, was on display at the NGA.

Rebirth Of Rome. Echoes And Origins: Interwar Italian Design Miami Beach The Wolfsonian–FIU September 27, 2013 - April 20, 2014

- Program of independent though interrelated exhibitions, entitled Rebirth of Rome, that examine the aesthetics of dictatorship in interwar Italy.

- Each exhibition addresses responses to the challenges of modernity, as seen in the over 200 objects of public works, mural paintings, architecture, design, and decorative arts in Italy in the 1920s and 1930s, drawn from The Wolfsonian’s collection, with loans from the museum’s founder, Mitchell Wolfson, Jr., and from Marcello Cambi and the Wolfsoniana in Genoa.

- Permanent monument designed by architect Antonio Pio Saracino, consisting of two sculptures representing Italy and the U.S. The Italian “guardian” is based on Michelangelo’s David. - Saracino has been recognized as one of the Top Ten Architects under 26-years old by the New Italian Blood award.

- In 2013 falls the 700th Anniversary since Boccaccio’s birth. - To celebrate the anniversary of Giovanni Boccaccio's birth, the Brown University Decameron Web project has launched a contest for the best adaptation of a tale from the Decameron into a form of colloquial communication. - Purpose of the award: to spark the creativity of young readers and students of Boccaccio by inviting them to translate a tale from the Decameron into a communications form of our times, adapting it in letter and spirit to contemporary media and social contexts. - Three prizes are in play: best translation-adaptation into contemporary English, best adaptation for the stage, and best adaptation for other media (Youtube, social networks, animation, videogames, and similar). - The three winners will be published on the Decameron Website and the best adaptation for stage will be performed by a Theater company in Certaldo.
