Sauka Groundworks & Civil Engineering MATCHDAY PROGRAMME • v UNITED FC 23|11|19 • KO 15:00 • THURLOW NUNN DIVISION ONE SOUTH WELCOME

Welcome everyone to the Taydal Stadium for today’s fixture against Coggeshall United FC. We welcome their players, staff and supporters, along with the match officials, and hope you have a safe journey home.

After a difficult 2018/19 season, we find ourselves with a chance to put right last year’s poor league position. We are looking to do this while still maintaining the player progression that we were very proud of last season. A few older, more experienced heads, gelled with the lads who gained there first year’s experience in the Thurlow Nunn last year, leaves us in a better position than where we were a year ago. The introduction of our new head coach Stuart has been a big plus.

Please get behind and support the lads as we look to enjoy the 2019/20 season. Up the R’s!

Neil Payne, Programme Editor

HISTORY

Brightlingsea Regent FC, previously Brightlingsea United, have completed around 100 years of competitive football. Firstly in the Border League, between 1908/1909 to 1970, when they joined The Senior league for 20 years having much success, before going on to join the then Jewson League in 1990 and then back to the Border League in 2001/2002.

Brightlingsea United FC and Regent Park Rangers FC amalgamated at the start of 2005/06 season to become Brightlingsea Regent Football Club. During this time the squad and club have continued to grow and develop, the first team, with a series of promotions from the Border League, currently play at Step 3 of the non-league pyramid in the Isthmian Premier league.

The 2018/19 season saw the formation of a Brightlingsea Regent Reserves side, under the guidance of Manager Lee Clark, his assistant Glen Last and Head Coach Adam Munn, playing their first season of football in the newly formed Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties Division One South.

Adam Munn left at the end of the 2019 season and Stuart Malseed has joined the management team as Head Coach for the 2019/20 season.

Manager Lee Clark left the club in September 2019 to be replaced by Glen Last

With a season of senior football under their belts, the Reserves are looking to continue their growth, with many of the squad looking to push for places in the First Team.

FOR THE KIDS

To increase attendances at our grounds, the Thurlow Nunn League, in conjunction with its clubs and its sponsor, Thurlow Nunn, is promoting the need to turn matches into a more family-orientated entertainment in a family-friendly environment.

The League understands that football is a game of intensity and passion. In the heat of the moment, frustrations grow, tempers can be lost and there is an urgent need to share your feelings with others.

The League also understands that, in that moment, you may use language that others may not feel is appropriate in a family setting.

Nothing will send parents and/or grandparents heading quickly for the exits with their youngsters, never to return, than a constant stream of foul language. All we ask is that you keep it down for the kids.

Thank you.

Coggeshall United Football Club was formed in 2017, with former professional footballer, Cliff Akurang, brought in as manager shortly thereafter before taking over as chairman and owner of the club midway through the 2017/2018 season which culminated in the club’s promotion. We are currently in our third ever season as a football club in the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League First Division (South).

Now, with the support of friend and Club Secretary, Brian Sawyer, has adopted an exciting style of football that brings together a blend of some of the top players at this level with talented young players.

As a club, along with success on the field of play, we are looking to engage with the community and become a focal point for all local people, irrespective of their differences, as a place to come together and enjoy the camaraderie that comes with football.

“We follow football in a country where everyone is different and we want to ensure there are no barriers to anyone who wants to support their local team.

The community is the heart and soul of our club and young people are our future.

So bring your families along on match days and experience our unique club and meet local heroes and potential stars in the making.”

Cliff Akurang, Club Owner, Chairman and Manager.

Wroxham are back to second after an 89th minute penalty from Simon Lappin gave them a 1-0 victory at Mildenhall Town. Stanway Rovers continue to impress and are third after beating Woodbridge Town 3-1.

In the battle between two in-form teams Long Melford suffered their first league defeat in 9 games and fell to 4th in the table after losing at home 3-1 to Thetford Town. The Brecklanders have won 6 of their last 7 games. Norwich United are up to 5th following a 4-1 victory over bottom side Hadleigh United. Newmarket Town are now in the top six with games in hand after coming from 3-1 down to win 4-3 at Haverhill Rovers.

With Mulbarton Wanderers’ match postponed Downham Town took the opportunity to move back to the top of First Division North by beating Haverhill Borough 2-0. New signing Robbie Priddle scored a goal in each half. Third placed Norwich CBS fell 1-0 at Ipswich Wanderers, fourth placed Lakenheath’s match was called off and March Town United are up to fifth after a comprehensive 5-0 success over AFC Sudbury Reserves.

A special mention to Wisbech St Mary who had their first win of the season – beating Felixstowe & Walton United Reserves 3-0.

Little Oakley missed the opportunity to go top of First Division South after being held 1-1 at home by lowly Hackney Wick. Leaders Lopes Tavares’ game fell to the weather, while Holland moved into the promotion positions after a 90th minute Harvey Cowler goal gave them a single goal victory over third placed Wivenhoe Town.

Frenford are the form team of the division but left it very late to score their two goals in the 2-1 win at Burnham Ramblers. Harwich & Parkeston lost their unbeaten home record in some style. Despite going ahead they lost 7-1 to White Ensign at the Royal Oak.
