Lockington’s Priceless Paper

Where am I?... I’m in the yard of the Lockington Heritage Centre $ FREE

AMAZED WITH ‘LOCKY’S AMAZING RACE’ SUNDAY OCTOBER 2 Where can you go to be thoroughly entertained and impressed for less than $10? Only those who went to the Lockington Consolidated School’s production of ‘Locky’s Amazing Race’ could answer that. For less than $10 probably every Turn your clocks student who attends the school sang, danced and acted in a very disciplined way in an amazing array of costumes and backdrops. In addition, the Teachers Forward by one hour made, can I say?, fools of themselves in a comical way and probably drew the loudest laughs. “Good on you Teach!” For those who missed out on this annual production – well I hope it will continue to be – what a pity. One doesn’t have to be connected to the School in any way, as I and many others weren’t, but it is great to see what a ‘Country cousin’ of the big schools can do. To all those in- volved in the production my sincere and heartiest congratulations. What a great name you’ve continued to give to our school. From a former proud pupil, somewhat jealous that in my time such productions didn’t exist. Beryl Marshall. %%%%%%%%%%%%...More photos on page ??

A PLAY AND A BIRTHDAY AT KOTTA “The World Bra unclipping championships at Garimba” a play by Hugh O’Brien This play at the Kotta Hall on Sat 10 September was per- formed by the B BAC players ( Boort, Buckrabunyule and Charlton players), it is the story of a small Queensland town struggling with drought, low prices and general mal- aise and looking for something to give it a lift and attract tourists even for one day in the year. The set is the stage of the local hall and the six scenes are all meetings of the Business Attraction Group of Garimba (BAGG) which consists of six characters. Many ideas are suggested and The World Bra Unclipping Championships looks like it would be very uplifting for the town. Organisation begins but security is lax and the idea is stolen. More ideas are put forward and the committee comes up with another brain wave. The whole process is amusing and the innu- that we should combine this celebration with the play. A endo frequent. No doubt any hall of this age is likely to be a bit wonky but it doesn’t seem to matter much and it was a great atmosphere and the hall has exceptionally good acoustic qualities. David Hammond, the hall secretary of many years, gave a brief outline of the hall history as a social focal point. The huge changes in society over this long period has seen the importance of local halls decrease but events like bush dances, birthdays, kitchen teas, wedding receptions, Christmas trees and na- tivity plays, concerts, polling booth, property auctions and clearing sales have all hap- pened at the hall. Andrew Christian thanked everyone for their attendance, the B BAC Well this is only partially true and it really is pretty tame Players for their outstanding performance, the Lockington and the PG classification confirms this. The sound effects were done by two teenagers from Charlton. These boys had to follow the play closely on their laptop computer so that the dog barking, horse galloping and thunder was timed correctly. The lighting was also done by the boys. The lights were LEDs, highly efficient with low power needs and the old hall did not suffer any blown fuses. It is very unusual for entertainment of this standard to be performed at small country halls these days. The players have so far per- formed at Buckrabunyule (their home base), Boort , Wed- derburn and Kotta. The Charlton show is on Friday 16th Sept and others to follow.
