THINK BIG… …take back the right-of-way from the automobile and create multi-modal street that benefits pedestrians, bicycles, and transit Existing high-volume, low value corridor Short-term implementation of medians While current peak traffic counts may context = placeless and striping make implementation less feasible in the short-term, as auto-orientation and auto-dependency along the corridor are reduced, a road diet with roundabouts would provide a dramatic transformation of the corridor. The road diet could be phased over time, first focusing at the nodes at McBryde and Solano. The four alternate road sections (shown on the previous page) would not require the relocation of existing curbs. Various options could be tested simply through restriping portions of the corridor. Due to the low cross-traffic counts, a roundabout would help improve traffic flow by eliminating the need for a left- turn only signal cycle at lights. A similar street with higher ADT’s in Bird Rock, CA implemented a road diet with roundabouts to great success in 2008. (Case study provided on following pages.) Proposed multi-modal, high value corridor context = desired place
