United Soccer Coaches All-Americans Individual
INDIVIDUAL HONORS & AWARDS UNITED SOCCER COACHES ALL-AMERICANS Thirteen Huskers have earned 19 All-America awards from the United Soccer Coaches (formerly the NSCAA) in the past 24 seasons. Jaycie Johnson became Nebraska’s most recent All- American, making the third team in 2016. She led the team in goals scored (11), points (24) and game-winning goals (6) during the 2016 campaign. Midfielder Kari Uppinghouse was Nebraska's first first-team All-American in 1996. Uppinghouse provided a dominant physical presence in the midfield while leading Kari Uppinghouse, MF Lindsay Eddleman, F Rebecca Hornbacher, GK the Huskers to their first NCAA Tournament and a 23-game First Team, 1996 Second Team, 1996 Third Team, 1996 winning streak as a junior in 1996. Two other Huskers, Lindsay Eddleman – who became Nebraska's first freshman to earn All-America honors – and goalkeeper Rebecca Hornbacher, joined Uppinghouse as All-Americans in 1996. In 1998, three Huskers earned All-America honors, including Sharolta Nonen, who became the first Nebraska player to become a two-time All-American. Isabelle Morneau and Kim Engesser also added the first honors of their careers. In 1999, Morneau claimed her second straight second- team award, while Nonen became the first Husker to be a three-time All-American. Jenny Benson earned first-team All-America honors as a senior defender in 2000, after moving from the midfield in the spring. Midfielder Meghan Anderson also earned first-team Sharolta Nonen, D Kim Engesser, F Isabelle Morneau, D honors, while forward Christine Latham, the Big 12 Player of the Year, nabbed second-team honors. -

Fakultet for humaniora, samfunnsvitenskap og lærerutdanning Fra jenter til kvinner En kvalitativ analyse av norske mediers dekning av kvinnefotballen i det 21. århundret. Malin Bredahl Woll Masteroppgave i SOS-3981 sosiologi ved lektorutdanninga 8-13, mai 2021 i Sammendrag Denne oppgaven handler om kvinnefotball og deres representasjon i media i det 21. århundret. Formålet med oppgaven er å undersøke omtalen av kvinnefotballen i media, og å se på hvor mye de skrives om. Det har også vært et mål å se på fotballspiller som yrke for kvinner og om de møter på barrierer som hindrer de videre i arbeidslivet. Ved å bruke to aviser, VG og Adresseavisen, er det telt antall artikler om kvinnefotball og herrefotball fra 2000-2019 for å sammenligne. Ved bruk av kvalitativ dokumentanalyse og innholdsanalyse er artiklene plassert inn i tre forskjellige kategorier. De teoretiske analyseverktøyene som har vært brukt i oppgaven er Pierre Bourdieus teori om det sosiale rom og felt, og hans begreper om kapital-formene og habitus. Videre er feministisk teori om femininitet og maskulinitet benyttet, og teorien om glasstaket i arbeidslivet. Analysen har bestått av tre kategorier som ble til som følge av min datainnsamling og innholdsanalysen av disse. «Jentene», «diskriminering» og «heltinnene» er de tre utvalgte kategoriene i analysen. Kategoriene er også delt inn etter en tidslinje, der første kategori tar for seg de tidligste årene av utvalget, og så følger de to andre linjen videre. Hovedfunnet som er gjort er at det finnes en ending i omtalen og omtalefrekvensen av kvinnefotballen i media som har skjedd i det 21. århundret. -

It critically engages with the “South African Surfing History Archive”, collected in the course of research, by focusing on two inter-related themes in contributing to a critical sports historiography in southern Africa. The first is how surfing in South Africa has come to be considered a white, male sport. The second is whether surfing is political. In addressing these topics the study considers the double whiteness of the Californian influences that shaped local surfing culture at “whites only” beaches during apartheid. The racialised nature of the sport can be found in the emergence of an amateur national surfing association in the mid-1960s and consolidated during the professionalisation of the sport in the mid-1970s. -

Dave Presher Began Work at the San Diego Spirit of the Women’S United Soccer Association, the WUSA’S Mortal Wounds Had Already Been (Self) Inflicted
By the time Dave Presher began work at the San Diego Spirit of the Women’s United Soccer Association, the WUSA’s mortal wounds had already been (self) inflicted. After blowing through three-years of seed money in an orgy of spending leading up to opening day of its inaugural season, the WUSA stared into the abyss after two seasons of staggering financial losses. Corporate sponsorship badly underperformed expectations and TV ratings barely registered - distressing for a league founded and subsidized by cable television operators. Presher was a 20-year sales veteran of the radio industry, but a pro sports novice. He was expected to apply his promotional know-how to fill seats for the Spirit, a club which already paced the WUSA in season ticket sales. Although brought on as a revenue-side hire, Presher immediately dove into player personnel - transforming an on-field product he found “in shambles“. Trades in the WUSA were rare and unremarkable. The top American players held an equity stake in the league and a say in which cities they agreed to play in. A few weeks into the job, Presher engineered the biggest trade in league history, shipping veterans Shannon Boxx, Margaret Tietjen and Sherrill Kester, along with the #2 overall pick in the 2003 college draft, to the New York Power. In return, San Diego received the #1 overall pick and midfielders Jen Lalor and Wynne McIntosh. The key to the trade was that #1 pick, which Presher used to draft Aly Wagner, the young U.S. National Team midfielder projected to be the best attacking player of her generation. -
