From the centre to Shipley, , Manningham, , and , the whole District could be completely transformed if we win the UK City of Culture title for 2025. This designation is key to unlocking the potential of all our people and to positive change for everyone that lives, works and studies here. It will support our shared commitment to tackle inequalities, help change perceptions of the city in the UK and around the world, and contribute to our economic and social ambitions for the coming decade.

Textile Quilt (physical) Your school is invited to celebrate the many differences in the ; the rich diversity of people and its histories. In this community art project, we would like to hear your stories told out in pictures on panels of fabric. Once finished they will be stitched together to form a collaborative piece of art.

The project allows for a total inclusive participation, this is because there is only one criterion, the panel size. The geniuses of quilt projects are that they can keep on growing, becoming a historical social document. A celebrator and informative piece of community art.

Digital Quilt Stories can also be told through a lens, from photographs or short videos on your phone camera. Here are just a few examples of what you could do: selfies, family and friends, religious celebrations, animation, interviews and newsflashes. Both projects will form part of Bradford’s City of Culture bid for 2025.

Telling your story Talk to your adults at home and within your community, ask them about their past, what is important to them and to you? You may share a common story, but with different perspectives, points of view, passions and skills. Think about memories and how these could be represented in your panel.

Textile Panel

1. From your fabric, cotton or felt cut out a piece 26cm x 26cm. 2. In the centre draw a square 20cm x 20cm this is where you will tell your story. 3. The 3cm margin around the edge of the square will be used to join all the panels together to create one piece of community art celebrating our extraordinary and beautiful city, Bradford. 4. It is a good idea to plan where you objects will be placed before securely attaching them by stitching or gluing.

Fabrics can include most things; here are just a few examples:

● Fabrics: lace, suede, leather, taffeta, also bubble-wrap and other kinds of plastic and even small metal items can be added

● Decorative items like sequins, feathers, pearls, quartz crystals, rhinestones, and buttons are all great ways to tell stories

● Swatches of clothing: jeans, T-shirts, gloves…

Digital Quilt – photographs need to be in the square format and ideally as a jpegs.

• If you photographs have people in them, you will need to get their permission before submitting them.

• Photographs can be also digital drawings with words. You may consider thinking of words that easily tell your story.

• You may have a collection of objects which are too large to be stitched in to the textile panel but could be photographed for the digital quilt.

We want it to be totally inclusive, so if you have any questions please ask but most of all have lots of fun. It also would be super if you could take some photographs of your children as they make their panels.

Please sign the back of your work with your name and on a separate sheet of paper write some notes about your story.

Thank you, the children of Feversham Primary Academy.
