Nhl Morning Skate – Jan. 27, 2019 Saturday's NHL MORNING SKATE – JAN. 27, 2019 SATURDAY’S RESULTS Home Team in Caps Central Division 10, PACIFIC DIVISION 4 (SF) Metropolitan Division 7, ATLANTIC DIVISION 4 (SF) Metropolitan Division 10, CENTRAL DIVISION 5 (F) CROSBY EARNS MVP HONORS, LEADS METRO TO ALL-STAR WIN With the 2019 Honda NHL All-Star Game being broadcast on television in primetime for the first time in more than 20 years, Penguins forward Sidney Crosby led all players with 4-4—8 across the two games – including multiple goals in each outing – to lead the Metropolitan Division to its second NHL All-Star title under the three-on-three format (also 2017 in Los Angeles). * Crosby became the sixth NHL player to capture All-Star MVP, Hart Trophy and Conn Smythe Trophy honors throughout his career, joining Jean Beliveau, Bobby Orr, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Joe Sakic. Coincidentally, SAP Center was the site of Crosby’s first of two Conn Smythe Trophy awards after the Penguins defeated the Sharks in Game 6 of the 2016 Stanley Cup Final. * Only three other Penguins in franchise history have captured All-Star MVP honors: Mario Lemieux (1985, 1988 and 1990), Syl Apps Jr. (1975) and Greg Polis (1973). * Crosby (2-3—5) and Islanders forward Mathew Barzal (2-3—5) each recorded five points in the Final, the highest single-game total recorded under the three-on-three All-Star format. * Crosby scored 15 seconds into Semifinal 2 en route to a Metropolitan Division victory – the fastest goal to start a game under the three-on-three All-Star format. All three games contested on Saturday saw a goal scored within the first 1:03 of the game. * Blue Jackets defenseman Seth Jones recorded 2-2—4 across the two games for the Metropolitan Division. In the 2018-19 regular season, Jones (2-3—5) ranks tied for second in points during the three-on-three overtime period, trailing only teammate Artemi Panarin (4-2— 6). ALL-STAR GAME NOTES * The Metropolitan Division tallied 17 goals across the two contests, the highest combined total by any one team under the three-on-three All-Star format. * Seth Jones was stopped on a penalty shot attempt by Wild goaltender Devan Dubnyk in the Final. It marked just the third penalty shot in NHL All-Star Game history (dating to the first game in 1947). The others: Matt Duchene (no goal) in 2011 and Steven Stamkos (no goal) in 2012. * The Central Division claimed its first-ever win under the three-on-three All-Star format with a 10-4 W vs. PAC in Semifinal 1. The 10 goals matched a three-on-three NHL All-Star single- game high, equaled by the Metropolitan Division in the final. * The Central Division scored seven goals in the first half of Semifinal 1, matching the 2017 Metropolitan Division (7 in 1st vs. ATL) for the most goals in one half under the three-on-three format. * Avalanche forward Gabriel Landeskog (3-1—4 in Semifinal 1) became the second player to score a hat trick under the three-on-three All-Star format, following Nikita Kucherov in 2018. ICYMI: ALL-STAR EDITION After dazzling the crowds during the 2019 SAP NHL All-Star Skills and engaging with hockey fans at 2019 NHL Fan Fair presented by SAP, U.S. Women’s National Team members Kendall Coyne Schofield and Brianna Decker, along with Canadian Women’s National Team members Renata Fast and Rebecca Johnston, were honored with a standing ovation for their contributions to the game and a donation to the charities or hockey programs of their choice. QUICK CLICKS * MUST SEE: Devan Dubnyk flashes the leather to rob Connor McDavid * Former teammates Marc-Andre Fleury, Kris Letang ride scooters to rink * WATCH: Steven Stamkos puts puck between legs to beat Henrik Lundqvist * Puck and Player Tracking technology intriguing to NHL coaches * NHL's elite help wishes come true for kids at All-Star Game .

On Sport and Society. 615. https://stars.library.ucf.edu/onsportandsociety/615 SPORT AND SOCIETY FOR H-ARETE February 5, 2001 The comeback of Mario Lemieux with the Pittsburgh Penguins has converged very nicely with that of Jennifer Capriati. In the past week Capriati completed her long climb back to the top of women's tennis, and in the middle of his latest comeback Lemieux was voted NHL player of the month for January. For Lemieux this is at least the second comeback of his remarkable career. The first calamity struck in January of 1993 when Mario was diagnosed with a form of Hodgkin's disease. Radiation treatments ravaged his body and he was unable to perform normal everyday tasks, let alone play hockey. After sitting out the 1994-95 season he came back and performed better than ever continuing at the record breaking pace of points and goals that once made him a legitimate threat to challenge the scoring records of Wayne Gretzky.

Portail de l'éducation de Historica Canada Canada's Game - The Modern Era Overview This lesson plan is based on viewing the Footprints videos for Gordie Howe, Bobby Orr, Father David Bauer, Bobby Hull,Wayne Gretzky, and The Forum. Throughout hockey's history, though they are not presented in the Footprints, francophone players like Guy Lafleur, Mario Lemieux, Raymond Bourque, Jacques Lemaire, and Patrick Roy also made a significant contribution to the sport. Parents still watch their children skate around cold arenas before the sun is up and backyard rinks remain national landmarks. But hockey is no longer just Canada's game. Now played in cities better known for their golf courses than their ice rinks, hockey is an international game. Hockey superstars and hallowed ice rinks became national icons as the game matured and Canadians negotiated their role in the modern era. Aims To increase student awareness of the development of the game of hockey in Canada; to increase student recognition of the contributions made by hockey players as innovators and their contributions to the game; to examine their accomplishments in their historical context; to explore how hockey has evolved into the modern game; to understand the role of memory and commemoration in our understanding of the past and present; and to critically investigate myth-making as a way of understanding the game’s relationship to national identity. Background Frozen fans huddled in the open air and helmet-less players battled for the puck in a -28 degree Celsius wind chill. The festive celebration was the second-ever outdoor National Hockey League game, held on 22 November 2003.

  • Turnbull Hockey Pool For
Turnbull Hockey Pool for Each year, Turnbull students participate in several fundraising initiatives, which we promote as a way to develop a sense of community, leadership and social responsibility within the students. Last year's grade 7 and 8 students put forth a great deal of effort campaigning friends and family members to join Turnbull's annual NHL hockey pool, raising a total of $1750 for a charity of their choice (the United Way). This year's group has decided to run the hockey pool for the benefit of Help Lesotho, an international development organization working in the AIDS-ravaged country of Lesotho in southern Africa. From www.helplesotho.org "Help Lesotho’s programs foster hope and motivation in those who are most in need: orphans, vulnerable children, at-risk youth and grandmothers. Our work targets root causes and community priorities, including literacy, youth leadership training, school twinning, child sponsorship and gender programming. Help Lesotho is an effective, sustainable organization that is working at the grass-roots level to support the next generation of leaders in Lesotho." Your participation in this year's NHL hockey pool is very much appreciated. We believe it will provide students and their friends and families an opportunity to have fun together while giving back to their community by raising awareness and funds for a great cause. Prizes: > Grand Prize awarded to contestant whose team accumulates the most points over the regular NHL season = 10" Samsung Galaxy Tablet > Monthly Prizes awarded to the contestants whose teams accumulate the most points over each designated period (see website) = Two Movie Passes How it Works: > Everyone in the community is welcome to join in on the fun.

Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips March 25, 2021 Sabres’ winless streak hits 15 as Penguins roll to 5-2 win By Will Graves Associated Press March 25, 2021 PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Penguins are tired. They’re hurting. And in a way, they’re scrambling. Nothing a visit from the reeling Buffalo Sabres can’t fix. Sidney Crosby picked up his 13th goal of the season, Tristan Jarry stopped 26 shots and the Penguins extended Buffalo’s winless streak to 15 games with a 5-2 victory on Wednesday night. Evan Rodrigues, Kris Letang, John Marino and Zach Aston-Reese scored also for the Penguins, who recovered from a sluggish three-game set against New Jersey in which they managed just one victory by pouncing on the undermanned and overmatched Sabres. “We’re a close group, a very resilient group,” Marino said. “We’ve had a lot of come-from-behind wins, a lot of bounce-back wins (like tonight). It says a lot about the guys in the room.” Buffalo goalie Dustin Tokarski, making his first NHL start in more than five years with Carter Hutton out due to a lower-body injury, finished with 37 saves and kept the Sabres in it until late in the second period, when Marino and Aston-Reese scored just over 2 minutes apart to give the Penguins all the cushion required. Rasmus Dahlin scored his second goal of the season and Victor Olofsson beat Jarry on a penalty shot in the third period, but the NHL’s worst team remained in a tailspin.
