  • FIFA Quality Concept for Football Turf FIFA, World Football’S Governing Body, Has Been Concerned with Ensuring the Quality of Football Turf Since 2001
FIFA Quality Concept for Football Turf FIFA, world football’s governing body, has been concerned with ensuring the quality of football turf since 2001. The FIFA Quality Concept, a guarantee of premium quality and consistency, is now a respected international industry standard. With its commitment to first-rate artificial surfaces, FIFA is responding to the growing demand for playing foot- ball on football turf – chiefly in regions where the climate makes it impossible to organ- ise football matches on good natural turf all year round. The FIFA certification and licensing programme, which was launched in February 2001, means that purchasers of football turf can rely on the FIFA RECOMMENDED endorse- ment when making their decisions. This endorsement is a mark of outstanding quality, optimum playing comfort and regular checks by FIFA. Artificial turf has been around for decades – but only recently, since manufacturers first developed surfaces tailored specifically to the needs of football, has it been a truly viable surface for football matches. The concept behind most present-day systems is based on a surface with long, grass-like fibres filled with sand and rubber particles. Many different products exist on the market. An example of a football turf system may be built up as follows. “As the game’s worldwide governing body, we have the responsibility to sup- port any move to improve football equip- ment.” Rubber particle infill Joseph S. Blatter (FIFA President) River sand infill Artificial turf Asphalt layer Aggregate (under-base) Football turf enables millions of footballers around the world to indulge in their favourite sport all year round, and, more importantly, to do so in the best possible conditions.

The Woes of Luka Modrić: Croatia, Nationalism and Football By Dr. Binoy Kampmark Region: Europe Global Research, July 15, 2018 Theme: History In-depth Report: THE BALKANS Note to readers: please click the share buttons above Juraj Vrdoljak of Telesport was convinced. “I think half the population didn’t show up to work on the morning after the win against England.” The victory had inspired early shop closures, a feeling of rampant escapism. “Croatia is a country with a deep economic crisis. Every day, life is really hard. It’s full of bad stories and tough times. There is lot of poverty. A lot of people are emigrating.” Members of Croatia’s football team have become national talismans of endurance, the shock troops of resilience and hope. Ivan Rakitić, when he takes the field against France, will be playing his 71st match of the season, the most than any top-flight player this year. Luka Modrić remains unflinching in the midfield as the team’s general.Domagoj Vida has been granite in defensive solidity. Football teams can be held up as mirrors of the nations they represent. This sociological gazing can always be taken too far, a scholar’s fruitless pondering, but Croatia’s national side is instructive. It was Dinamo Zagreb’s Zvonimir Boban who stirred matters with his heralded assault on a police officer engaged in a violent scuffle with fans in a match against Red Star Belgrade. Croatian football was fashioned as a vehicle of protest and dissent against what was seen as a Serb-dominated federation.
