forty years, still a very good idea ................................................ 487 WORLD LANGUAGES CURRICULUM MADISON PUBLIC SCHOOLS PROGRAM OVERVIEW Introduction The Madison Curriculum Management Cycle addresses the need for the continual improvement and / or updating of the schools‘ instructional programs through the periodic re-examination of curriculum. The process is recursive and usually occurs within a five year cycle. The full cycle includes two phases. Phase I: Evaluation / Development and Phase II: Implementation / Monitoring. Phase I has two steps: Step 1: Program Evaluation and Step 2: Research and Development. Phase II has two steps: Step 1: Program Implementation and Step 2: Program Monitoring. The World Languages committee as of June 2007 has completed the first two steps of Phase I of curriculum revision. After review of the curriculum by the administrative council, the Superintendent of Schools and the Board of Education, it is anticipated that in September 2007 Phase II: Step 1: Implementation will be initiated. The subject area committee throughout Phase I: Step 2: Research and Development of the Madison Curriculum Management Cycle examined several resources including state and national standards and frameworks for World Language learning as well as curricular programs nationwide. The articulation of the guide‘s goals and standards across grade levels has been examined carefully and has been achieved to the satisfaction of the World Languages committee charged with the development of the guide. The committee believes that the Madison Public School System has developed a quality World Languages program that is planned, ongoing, and systematic. David J. The Overview of the Program section provides subject area direction for understanding the contents of the guide. The Components and Framework section provides a description of the program components, as well as a description of an optimum teaching/learning environment, mission statement, philosophy, goals, and benefits of the world languages program. The Scope and Sequence section states the scope (breadth and depth) of subject content and sequence (order of presentation) to master the subject with understanding – to acquire knowledge and skill

Where no specimens of a particular spe­ cies from the Philippines were available to us, illustrations are given of specimens from outside the Philippines. In total we have listed 117 species (with 5 additional subspecies where more than one subspecies of a species exists in the Philippines). Four tables are provided: 1) a breakdown of the number of species and endemic species/subspecies for each subfamily, tribe and genus of Philippine Sphingidae; 2) an evaluation of the number of species as well as endemic species/subspecies per island for the nine largest islands of the Philippines plus one small island group for comparison; 3) an evaluation of the Sphingidae endemicity for each of Vane-Wright’s (1990) faunal regions. From these tables it can be readily deduced that the highest species counts can be encountered on the islands of Palawan (73 species), Luzon (72), Mindanao, Leyte and Negros (62 each).

The proposed method uses data acquired using the 2 cameras mounted on the robot to estimate the position of the ball with respect to the robot and then to navigate towards it. Our method is also capable of searching for the ball if is not within the robots immediate range of view or if at some point, NAO loses track of it. Variations of this method are currently used by different universities around the world in the international robotic soccer competition called Robocup. Within a sample size of 39 computer sciences students, this study assessed criteria such as: perceived enjoyment, intention to use, perceived sociability, trust, intelligence, animacy, anthropomorphism, and sympathy, utilizing testing tools such as Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) and Godspeed Questionnaire (GSQ). These methods identified a significant effect of the gender assigned to the robot in variables such as intelligence and sympathy. Methodology A total of 20 children and 5 teachers were randomly selected to comprise the sample for this study, which was a qualitative exploration executed using fo- cus groups after an NAO robot (pronounced now) was deployed in their school for a day of revision sessions. Contribution Where other papers on this topic have largely been based in other countries, this paper, to our knowledge, is the first to examine the potential for the inte- gration of educational robots in the Arab context. Findings The students were generally appreciative of the incorporation of humanoid robots as co-teachers, whereas the teachers were more circumspect, express- ing some concerns and noting a desire to better streamline the process of bringing robots to the classroom. Five years ago I pin-chased from an eminent French publisher some tasteful wood-engravings, illustrative of the History of Playing Cards. These, with the small work in which they originally appeared, were placed in the hands of the late Rev. Ed. S. Taylor, of Onnesby St. Margaret, Great Yarmouth, as mate rial for a History of Playing Cards, English and Foreign, which he had offered to undertake for me. The readers of Notes and Queries will remember this gen tleman as the valued contributor of many curious articles to that useful periodical. His knowledge was wide and varied, although his tastes were of that peculiar kind which delights in the careful exploration of the bye-ways, rather than the high roads, of learning. The first part of the work was soon in the printers' hands, but ill-health followed, and the book proceeded slowly up to the time of the Editor's decease, two years ago. It was deemed necessary to mention this fact, as some of the references are to matters long since passed, although they are stated as of the present day. IV PREFACE. To tlie French Illustrations have been added several facsimiles of old cards from the Print-room in the British Museum, and other sources.
