Yet “ANOTHER” MPRA Alumni reaches the Pro Ranks

Mount Pearl Referees Association (MPRA) would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Darryl Butt on his selection to the professional officiating ranks for the 2015-16 season. Darryl will begin his professional officiating career with the AHL in October of this year at Mile One Centre. Darryl will be the second official from the MPRA to achieve this success. Justin Day, also MPRA alumni, officiated with the AHL since the IceCaps inaugural season in 2011. Due to work commitments as an RNC officer in Churchill Falls, Labrador; Justin will not be available for the upcoming season. Both Darryl and Justin have made significant contributions to the MPRA program over the years and the association wishes them the best in their new endeavours both on and off the ice.

For some highlights of Darryl’s accomplishments see below:

• Darryl Butt, age 34 years, Level 5 official with HNL, has been officiating for the past 18 years. Darryl was raised in Mt. Pearl but currently resides in Goulds. • Darryl started his hockey career with Mount Pearl Minor and continues to be actively involved – officiating on ice and serving as a director with the MPRA executive. • 2015 selected to join the American Hockey League (AHL) staff to officiate games as a linesman at Mile One for the St. John’s Ice Caps for the 2015/16 season.

• 2015 Canadian ball hockey Senior Men’s, Women's and Masters National championships in , . Selected to officiate the gold medal game in the Masters division. • 2015 Eastern Canadian ball hockey Men’s championships hosted in St.John's, NL. Selected to officiate the gold medal game of the Tier 1 Men’s division. • 2015 National Championship hosted in Clarenville, NL. Selected to officiate gold medal game. • 2014 Canadian ball hockey Junior Nationals hosted in , . Selected to officiate the gold medal game at the under 19 level. • Level 5 clinic and seminar successfully completed, January 2014. • HNL Herder Memorial Senior hockey Championships, 2004 to present. • 2012 Don Johnson Cup hosted in St. John's, NL. Selected to officiate gold medal game. • 2012 HNL Veitch Memorial Junior Championship hosted in St. John's, NL. Selected to gold medal game. • 2011 Cup National Championship hosted in St. John's, NL. Selected to officiate gold medal game. • 2009 Don Johnson Cup hosted in Bay Roberts, NL. Selected to officiate gold medal game. • 2008 HNL Veitch Memorial Junior Championship • 2007 Refereed St. John's Junior Hockey League all-star game • 2005 Linesman St .John's Junior Hockey League all-star game • 2004 World Under 17 selection camp in , NB. • 2003 Atlantic Challenge Cup in Bathurst, NB. • Currently Darryl officiates for the following leagues and associations o Provincial Senior hockey league o St. John's Junior hockey league o Provincial AAA Midget hockey league o Metro High School league o All divisions in Mt. Pearl minor hockey association, with a focus on development of younger officials. • Off-ice duties Darryl is involve in include o Instructor of a linesman clinic for first and second year officials with MPRA o Supervisions throughout the year on younger officials at the minor level o Assist with time keepers/score keepers clinics at the beginning of the hockey season for off - ice officials

Selected as linesman for U16 gold medal game. • 2005 PeeWee Atlantics. Selected as referee for gold medal game • 2005 Attended Atlantic OPOE as a linesman in Moncton, NB • 2006 Linesman at World U17 in Regina, • 2006 Achieved Level 5, age 22 • 2006-2008 Linesman in Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) • 2007 Attended Atlantic OPOE as a referee in Moncton, NB • 2009 Linesman at Don Johnson Cup, Atlantic Junior B Championship • 2011-2015 Linesman American Hockey League (AHL) • 2011 , National Midget Championship. Selected to referee bronze medal game • 2005-2015 6 or 8 Herder Championships • 2015 Allan Cup, National Senior A Championship. Selected as linesman for gold medal game
