GARRETT McDULING

Welcome to all the players, sponsors, supporters and officials of both Floreat Athena and Perth SC to E&D Litis Stadium for this weekends clash in the Vincent Cup against Perth SC.

Our previous two encounters have seen us visit Adelaide Olympic away and Armadale away. Two very tough trips on the back of a state cup final against Bayswater. To top that off we now invite the league leaders Perth SC to E&D Litis stadium for a top of the table clash. If this does not get the players ticking I don’t know what will because this is certainly what my coaching staff and I signed up for.

The players however have answered the above question by brining home the Belt up cup along with 3 points at Armadale just 3 days after we came ever so close to an away win at Adelaide Olympic. It was not to be this year in the FFA cup round of 32, so we will now concentrate on our push to try take Perth SC to the final week of the season for the league honours. Perth SC have had a terrific season loosing only one match and proving they are the ones to beat in order to take their crown as defending champions. They took all three points on offer against Inglewood in a one sided affair winning 4-0. This ensured they maintain an eight point lead on Athena, whilst Inglewood slipped to fourth on the table. Perth SC kept anther clean sheet proving to the league they are hard to break down only conceding 13 goals this season. The Athena boys will certainly be up for the clash after a good showing against a battling Armadale. Lu- dovic Boi slotted home after just 18 mins to give Athena a 1-0 lead into the break. The boys did not show any sign of fatigue after the break whilst Dean Evans doubled the lead after 72 mins through a Petkov assist. Nick Ambrogio made it three before Armadale scored their first. Our support staff, Dr Emma Black, Ethan Burke, Jesse Deas and David Kist have also been an integral part to our team allowing both myself and the players to receive live and post match Heart Rate and GPS data, Video Analysis, Match Analytics and Opposition Analysis. Our head physio Fred Vanin ensures the players receive the latest Sports Science recovery and injury prevention methods whilst our team manager Jimmy Campbell supports in every way shape and form.

Finally I would like to thank my assistant Tim Cash, the club, the sponsors, community and supporters for being part of this terrific journey and we hope to continue to excite all involved.

We hope for a great game today and I would like to invite Ramon Falzon to share a bite to eat and drink with all the Perth SC players and staff after the game in the Clubhouse.

We were edged out twice in comebacks by Balcatta and Armadale. We were not at our best in either game but it is impor- tant to recognise that the 20s team is predominantly about player development. We have success in this regard with Jason Rule the latest player to be promoted to the first team squad. We always have things to work on at the training ground and we are also mindful of what the 2020 season might look like. Playing 20s football is a challenge for the players as they often juggle new life challenges and we as coaches must consider this.Have a great day at E & D Litis Stadium and thank you for the vocal support and as always we hope to repay you with effort and a high quality display today.

This season so far has been a huge test for our U18’s players here at Athena. Full credit to the boys who still strive week in week out to get down to training and engage in wanting to learn and be better. Last week against Armadale FC we had our goal keeper Christian get a nasty injury in the first 15-20 minutes of the game. This I believe threw the boys a little bit but we played okay in spells. We wish Christian a speedy recovery. Coming up against Perth City this week will be a big test for the boys and one that we have been working hard towards. These are the type of games every player wants to play in and our Athena boys are certainly up for the challenge. I hope everyone enjoys the match! Thanks, Kieran Davies. MESSAGE FROM THE CLUB FAFC V PSC

Today we host our cross town rivals Perth SC in the second round of the annual Vincent Cup. Last time we met, the honours went to the NPL WA leaders but today we’ll be aiming to get a different result and the three points!

This match comes on the back of some mixed fortunes for our great club. Firstly can I congratulate Head Coach Garrett McDulling and his coaching staff as well as the boys for showing the tenacity, strength and vigor to fight back from a goal down and come back to take out the Belt Up State Cup Final 2-1 against Bayswater City earlier this month. After taking out the night series we now have added more silverware after a gallant performance.

Last week we travelled to Adelaide to face our newly adopted Hellenic sister club Adelaide Olympic in the Round 32 of the FFA Cup. The boys started strong and by the end of the first half we were leading 2-0 thanks to goals from Ludo Boi and captain Dean Evans. However Olympic fought back and managed to advance to the round of 16 winning the match 4-3. Despite the result some new friendships were forged between our two clubs and in the fullness of time we hope we can visit Adelaide as part of an annual pre-season trip.

We’d like to take a moment to also acknowledge our volunteers and sponsors who help us week-in week-out. Before today’s match we’ll be honoring them both in the clubroom for all their hard work as a small token of our appreciation. After all they are the heartbeat of our club. Good luck today to both teams and enjoy the match. Thank you Board of Floreat Athena FC JUNIOR REPORT

2019 has been an excellent year for the Floreat Athena Juniors U13 to U16 age group. We have four per- forming NPL teams and two improving development teams which is a 50% increase in the number of players from the 2018 season. In particular credit goes to newly appointed U16s coach Frank Marriano who has selected and managed a great group of players in that age group and despite losing players to the U18s and elsewhere has continued to attract and retain replacement players.

The mid-season break saw three of our NPL teams narrowly finish in third division after crucial losses to In- glewood on the final game for that part of the season. The NPL U14s narrowly missed out on finishing in first division, after losing several players to growth injuries as the season progressed. Technical Director Dr Fadi Maayah said, “the appointment of three new NPL coaches for the 2019 season has paid off in terms of results and I am pleased with the overall quality of training that our NPL players are receiving”.

The newly created U14s development team has had an competitive season to date in Division One com- ing up against some experienced teams. The loss of the original goal-keeper was an issue early on but the replacement goal-keeper has done an excellent job and is developing well under the specialised goal-keeper training kindly provided by Jordan Barbas.

The U13s development team is a combination of U12s and U13s players and are gaining confidence as they transition from Mini-roos to the bigger pitch and professional refereeing in the JBL competition. Credit to Gabe Tana and Con Poulios for securing a Puma deal to deliver new training and playing kits for the NPL teams. Thank you Junior Committee FAFC SPONSORS
